Had this discussion at work the other day, what are some foods you hate but everyone else in the world thinks they are the greatest things ever?

For me, it's burritos. I'm super picky about them, and generally will pass them over for other foods if given the option.

Tomatoes. I'm fine with ketchup, tomato soup, and generally anything that used to be a tomato but isn't, but just thinking about eating tomatoes makes me queasy.

Prawns & shrimp are probably the ones that I find most people like that I dislike. Avocado (and thus guacamole), asparagus and mushroom follow up. Oh, and sour cream.

I can get on-board the "no shrimp" train. They're not too swift.

What about foods you are apathetic or mildly interested in?

I don't see what all the fuss about just steak is about. I've had very nicely cooked, very choice cuts of steak and it's still......nicely cooked plain meat. I like steak dishes better when they include a sauce or some other component.

I just made myself beef wellington for the first time recently, and I enjoyed it far more than I would have just a plain fillet. A bare steak is just a little boring to me.

Agreed with Fynn about tomatoes. I LOVE tomato soup, and tomato bases on pizza, but actual tomatoes have to be A) cooked and B) small-ish for me to appreciate them. Uncooked tomatoes are ugh.

Also, and while I'm not sure this is an 'everyone else loves' item, food with eyes. This includes prawns and shrimp and fish served whole and ugh.

I like prawns though, provided they're prepared well.

Mayo. It will knock me sick if I even smell it.

Bananas, I've tried again and again but I just can't eat them.

Crab. I tried to eat it but all I get is gag reflex.

Capsicum and zucchini. The former because of the taste and the latter because of the texture.

Peanut Butter. Blech.

Also I will not eat mayonnaise unless it's impossible to tell it is mayo.

Maybe not everyone loves this but... coleslaw.

I like cabbage. I like carrots. I like mayonnaise. Put them together and it is just a culinary abomination.

I also hate coriander but again that might not be hugely popular anyway.

I used to dislike coleslaw, not I rather like it.

The funny thing with peanut butter is that I hate it 'neat', or spreaded on something. Yet as part of a flavour (Reeses, chocolate spread) it is delicious.

Eggs weird me out too. I'll eat them but then randomly I gag at them too. I don't get it.

Same. I think for me it's the yolk. It's all gooey, and runny, and very... eggy. I know it sounds strange, but I only have egg very sparingly and only if the yolk has set.

Ah yes, onions and nutella for me as well. I like eggs if they're prepared very specifically and not too fluffy.

Also cheese whiz.

Avocados. Pretty much everyone in my family really likes them, but I really don't.
