On my old laptop I tried making my own FF rom using some kind of rom hacker software. Unfortunately, I forgot what it was called. It really is a lot of work, but one day I might give a go @ it again.

I made/helped make some Warcraft III maps. Doing that was probably the main reason I discovered my love for programming.

I like them but I have no idea how to even try and start one. But for those that do that is pretty neat!

Nah. I think I downloaded RPG maker once many many years ago but never did much with it.

No, however I do have some ideas on a leveling system in an RPG.
I was thinking that you could choose which stats (HP, MP, Strength, Speed etc) to level up by selecting them with an arrow and having them grow by collecting points for them - kind of like how you learn GF Abilities in Final Fantasy 8.
You could possibly start with one arrow, so that if you wanted someone to grow into a fighter then you could have that character focus on Strength and Defense or something, and then as you get further into the game you will gradually receive more arrows, so that you can pick several stats to develop at the same time.

This is a relatively simplistic system, and at the same time allows for a lot of customisation;
I think it could be quite enjoyable, actually.

I've attempted but alway run into time restrictions on my side of things.

I've missed around with a few RPG maker attempts. Never made it too far.
