Raine's surname is Loire as well. Just as her gravestone says.

And Squall's name is Leonhart to fit his theme. That is really all.

It originally was Loire but Squall, as we all know, is a petulant teenager. He went down to his local council and paid £40 to change it by deed poll. Leonhart is one of those names that sound cool as a sixteen-year-old but when he gets into his thirties he'll just be like "what was I thinking?"

unless the devs give some official background as to why, i believe it's safe to assume that Edea and Cid gave him that name to hide his lineage... it's been forever since i played that far into the game to really remember why they would, but it may have something to do with Ellone...
