So for like the hundredth time in my life, I'm considering setting up a food blog. I've thought about it before - done it once or twice too but I always seem to lose steam after a while.

So I'd like to ask EoFF - what would make you read my food blog?

My current sort of starting point is to make a blog that's about the basics, and has posts on how to cook with leftovers, cost effective cooking, and specials on ingredients (5 ways to cook with spring onion) etc.

Maybe even posts on the 'history' of dishes. SO it would be informative and entertaining and would also feature lots of pornographic food pics :D

Possibly when we get in our new place I may eventually/finally take that step into vlogging and do some cooking videos.

I don't know. I'm definitely not ready to start this, and maybe if I spend a while planning and researching what people want then I might not burn myself out and get bored!

Any feedback is welcome.

Thanks! :D

As long as it's interesting and enjoyable to read (and results in some good food porn) I think most people would be up for having a look at it. As long as you're passionate about what you're doing, it'll come through in the writing.

But, I think it's actually more important to do what you want to do, especially if it's something you want it to be something you keep up with and actually keep doing. That's what usually puts a halt to any continuous project - when the runner loses interest. Work out a plan and start doing it, and then take suggestions from there.

Using ingredients efficiently would definitely be a big draw for me. We end up wasting so much food and I know we can cook smarter. I'm forever emptying the fridge of out-of-date stuff. Now there are three of us to buy for it would really help.

I'm definitely going to make leftover recipes a big theme of the blog! I hate wasting food, especially meat, so I'm going to be experimenting a lot with that! I've got started on the blog. It has a name! It's private for now and I think I'm going to 'launch' it in about 3 weeks when I've built up a chunk of posts. So far I've got an egg fried rice leftovers post, and a recipe for HEALTHY BREAKFAST CHEESECAKE! I feel all motivated and excited I can't believe this! :D

Thanks for the feedback so far, I look forward to hearing more and working with suggestions.

Been setting this up all night! Quite pleased with it so far. Just going to keep a simple theme to it and not go overboard with any complex HTML.

OOoo I love food blogs!

My main source of them is from pinterest. I hear there's a huge market for sites there if you were wanting to monetize. It makes sense because people like me will search recipes there before google.

I like images! And step by step pictures even cause sometimes i'm like "wait I do.. .what?" A detailed talking through the recipe is nice and at the end the simple recipe is great. Like the ingredients, then the steps. But I like the personal posts of it like you're all "so when you add the flour you mix it and it can be tough but it works out those muscles if you don't have a mixer!" crap like that. I love it.

My advice though, is stock pile a bunch of posts/recipes all ready to go. That way if you have a busy week, you don't have to worry about any posts cause you can pull one of those stocked ones.

You take great food photos so I don't think you'll have much issue in drawing people in! This is exciting!

I visit these three food blogs each week: Minimalist Baker, My New Roots, and Oh She Glows. I find them appealing because:

1) The layouts are quite clean and free of clutter
2) There are equal measures of lunch/dinner and dessert recipes
3) The majority of the recipes do not require any special equipment or hard-to-find ingredients
4) The authors assume I can judge for myself what and how I want to eat, and refrain from being sanctimonious about their own choices and privileges
5) The photos are well done - although I get annoyed sometimes at having to scroll through seven photos of the same dish to get to the instructions

Good luck!

I need to get back to mine, but I want someone to make a layout for me and I need to get way better at food styling and photography.
