Hello EoFFers! Let's be honest now, it's just you and me talking here. I can't be the only one around here who has been admiring how incredibly appetizing squeenix were able to make Ignis's dishes that he and the crew dine on every time they set up camp. I never knew pixels on a screen could look so damn tasty, but I find myself getting hungry and jealous every time I see the gang chowing down on a delicious campfire meal.

Well, being a fan of cooking, and also being a fat slothlike creature at heart, I decided I wouldn't stand for it anymore and I'm going to do something about it. So in this thread I'll be chronicling my own Final Fantasy! The 'fantasy' being delicious dishes that I cook emulating (to the best of my ability and eye) the one's cooked by Ignis, and the 'final' being that I'll probably eat myself into a disgusting coma that prevents me from being able to function like a normal human being anymore.

I'm still working my way through the game and don't have all the dishes, but I now have enough to get started. Night Fury and I share cooking duties so I usually cook 3 or 4 days out of every week, and because I don't want to be doing a FFXV dish every time I cook I think it'll be fair to expect 2 new dishes in this thread per week. I'll do my best to remember how I do them every night and write down the recipes and post pictures of the finished product alongside a screen shot of the dish I tried to emulate, in case anyone wants to follow along. Honestly though, I'll be making all of this up as I go along, so no guarantees that every dish will be edible.

I'm friggin pumped to get this started though as I've honestly already had a bunch of ideas about how I could try to replicate some of the dishes in the game. Hopefully this garners some interest from you guys, and while you wait for the first dish to be posted up (I was going to do the first one tomorrow but we're going out for dinner so it'll have wait until Friday before I get started) how about telling me what meal from the game you're most excited to see me attempt.

(Also, a quick and obvious request: As I mentioned, I'm still working my way through the game and may not be the only one, so please be sure to keep this thread spoiler free)

There will definitely be pictures, I'm going to do my best to make them look exactly like the finished product that is presented in the game.

I want you to eat the most exotic meats you can to simulate the likes of Gigantoad steak and Behemoth steak!

I'm actually going to do my best with this very issue. But there's so many different land dwelling creatures in the game and much to my dismay I have yet to find a local 'exotic meats guy', so it might be a bit touch and go. I imagine we'll at the very least be seeing the likes of venison and kangaroo make an appearance though, as I know I can get ahold of them.

This may sound weird but I would legitimately be curious as to what a giant toad steak would taste like.

Not gonna lie, I feel the game should've come with a food porn warning, so I am incredibly aroused by this prospect!

I've been doing these dishes over the last week just to get a bit of a backlog, I'll be posting the first one later today though.

First FFXV inspired dish is going to be Kenny's Salmon!

Dish number 1 is served!

On the menu for today will be an amalgamation of Kenny's Salmon, Kenny's Original Recipe and the Dish and Chips.

Let's take a look at the original picture.

The Breakdown

So the dish in game has 2 ingredients necessary for Ignis to prepare it: 1 Nebula Salmon Fillet and Garlic. The Garlic is easy enough to do because I put that in basically every dish I cook, and I bought some really gorgeous looking Tasmanian salmon fillets to be the star of the dish. Unfortunately it proved too hard to get a cross section fillet of salmon as seen on the picture, my local fish mongers just didn't prepare them like that, so it's just 2 regular fillets of salmon (the plus side is that at least I can crisp up the skin).

So I knew there was Salmon and Garlic, the rest of the dish I had to make up by eye. Luckily this one wasn't too tricky to work out, the salmon is covered in what appears to be some kind of sauce, and the browning on the top would indicate that it's topped with cheese. So it would appear this is just salmon fillet with a cheese sauce. Because I didn't want to just serve salmon I also decided to do the Dish and Chips meal from the game, I don't have a picture of it but it's literally just a plate of skin-on French fries.

((As this is my first post I'm not sure if you guys are interested in the ingredients and method for these dishes, so I'm going to spare you those details for now. But if enough people want to make these meals for themselves just let me know and I can edit it in))

Final Thoughts and Review

This was essentially two things I have cooked often (cheese sauce and salmon) combined into a dish I've never had before, so I was excited to try it and pretty confident it would taste good. It was definitely delicious and the combination worked great, however the biggest thing to note is that this dish is RICH. Those were some pretty big salmon fillets we ate and the addition of that much cheese, cream and butter meant we were both in struggle town trying to finish it off. This is a great way of turning grilled salmon, which I think of as a summer food, into a hearty winter meal. I was also really pleased with how the fries came out. Nothing particularly special about them but they tasted fantastic and were good for dipping into any of the excess sauce.

Taste: I give this dish an 8 out of 10. It's nice seafood, it's cream, there's cheese, there's garlic and fries; you can't go wrong. Your heart and bowels may not love you but you'll enjoy it while it's going down at least.

Difficulty: Moderate. At the height of the action you'll have three hot plates on the go and your sauce will require consistent stirring, but everything cooks easily and aside from turning the salmon over and making sure the fries cook evenly there's not much to it. There's also minimal prep work aside from chopping potatoes and grating some cheese.

Oh yes oh yes oh yes.

Your dish actually looks more appetising! Don't get me wrong, I would devour both but that sauce looks amazing. Especially with those chips :D

The most exciting thing about those chips is we don't have an oven or a fryer.... Those bad boys were GRILLED.

The real question is, do you constantly say "That's it! I've come up with a new recipe."?

This is awesome, what to try the same thing now. Maybe start a cooking group or something. Apparently Squenix actually had a cooking team (http://www.eater.com/2016/12/21/14030230/final-fantasy-vx-15-food-review) that worked with the digital artists to make everything look more realistic. Wouldn't that be the most amazing job to have.

Sorry for the delay all. I've cooked a few more of the dishes and have pictures ready to go, I just haven't typed up posts for them. I'll get back to it ASAP.
