So tonight is the night that I'll start playing Final Fantasy IV. I used to have Origins (I&II) and Anthology (IV&V) but I only ever played a small amount of each. Like, probably not even an hour. The first two games didn't even grip me at all so I'm not going to go back and play them. III on Android was dull, although I did play it until completion. However, IV and V showed promise. VI was a good game, I played that almost to completition, but got lost in the second half of the game and then my game and save file was lost and I never bothered to go back.

Awesome! I'd love to hear your thoughts on the game. I'm also playing FFIV for the first time myself. Even doing an LP of it! (shameless plug)

Which version are you playing? I'm using the Steam Version.

I've bought the Complete Collection (PSP) on Vita. Is the Steam version the same one that released on DS?

Thanks! It's just installed so about to start :)

You're right, the Steam Edition is basically the DS version, only without touchscreen minigames.

If I had a DS I probably would have gone for this version, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to it so I thought I'd just play it on the platform available to me right now. And at least I've got the sequel as well if I'd like to expand on the story.

Anyway, I've just got Rydia. A Summoner who has access to White and Black Magic at the very beginning of the game? That's pretty neat.

I hope you enjoy it. FFIV is definitely a title I've only grown more fond of as time passes. It may lack the bells and whistles of other installments and it's plot is certainly laughable at times in its absurdness, but I still consider it to be one of the more solid entries.

I think the PSP version is the best 2D version, so that's a solid choice. I was gifted my Steam version, so I didn't really have a say!

In my game, Rydia was OP as hell when I got her. She and Cecil working in tandem was an almighty force.

Gifted it? Bonus! Everybody loves free stuff.

What level was she when you got her in the Steam version? In the PSP version she was level 1, but it didn't take long to get her to level 11. Haven't got to use her in a boss fight yet as I haven't played any more today to go and find the pearl, but I think she'll be pretty effective.

Rydia always starts at level 1. She is pretty potent in boss battles, though she's a bit lacking in the early game. By end game though, she's a force to be reckoned with.

Thank you. From what little I've played so far it seems enjoyable enough and even though it lacks the bells and whistles it's nice to go back to something more simplistic after FFXV.

I think 'nice and simple' is how I'm defining my enjoyment of FFIV. It isn't overly difficult, the story is pretty linear and the relative lack of major optional sidequests means I can just enjoy the journey.

Have you met Edward yet?

I've only just met Edward now and gained access to the hovercraft, after 20 million random battles in the waterways. At least I now know where that "You spoony bard!" phrase comes from xD

Ssshhh...don't tell nobody :P

Anyways, I've had no, umm, "drive" to go back to this game. I'll play it again at some point.

I'm jealous I can't follow this and Formy's FFIV LP. I really need to get my arse in gear and finish all the FF numbered entries. I'm pretty close to finally completing FFVI so I may start this one next!

So I went back to this for a little bit tonight after not playing it for just over a month and honestly, I don't really know if I'm feeling it. It feels like I'm playing just for the sake of it.

If you're not enjoying it then just shelve it. You might fancy giving it another go at a later date.

I started my first play of FFVI about five years ago and never finished. I did enjoy it though. I re-started it again recently and it really does have some magic about it. I know for sure I'll finish it this time.

Fast forward to 2019 and I've restarted it! I'm glad I did as I'm enjoying it more this time, and I've got further than I did before. I've just threw a stone in a well and made my way to the underworld, where I just fought Golbez and got reunited with Rydia. Now it seems like I'm off to find a way to the moon! .

I haven't played the game again since then. I've since deleted it and redownload it yesterday... 3rd time lucky, right? I'd love to be able to say "I've completed FFIV!" before playing the Remake. If I don't get through it before then the liklihood over ever touching it again is extremely slim.
