Fuck off, I'm still calling it Daddy of Light. The translators ruined the title when they changed it to Dad of Light. :( Also, I debated putting this in The Lounge, but this forum needs more love than The Lounge does.

Is anyone else watching this? It came to Netflix today. It's quite touching, but equally cringey. The Lalafell character sitting in main boy's catgirl lap solidified that for me. Also how they're putting the voices into the game is terrible, but also great. xD

I also really like that music from the game is getting love and seems to be used instead of an OST. It's possible this show might get FF fans who haven't played the game to watch, and they can appreciate it. I'm also sure we'll see an uptick in new players after this show.

Moments I'm looking forward to:
-Someone in the party calling Daddy shit because he's a BRD who isn't playing his songs
-Ragequitting for a week at Steps of Faith, Daddy goes on the official forums and calls for a nerf
-Daddy being oddly aroused by Aymeric
-Daddy mistaking Son's catgirl avatar for an actual woman and sending Son ERP tells
-Daddy trying his hand at crafting and bitching about undercutting
-Daddy bitching about someone pulling hunts early

We're heading over to Dougie's tonight, so I think we'll maybe twist his arm into watching this. Along with the Death Note movie.

Daddy is a great character. Son is a total pansy, but Daddy is a bro.

Also, two episodes in there's a Daddy Son masturbation joke, so this show is delivering what the people want.

Son is hot, though. So is Suspenders Friend.

This is great

It's so bad.

"Mmm, play me a Foe's, Daddy."

Shauna

Great! But also bad.

I really do love Daddy, though. Especially how he shit talks Son to Catgirl!Son. Go, Daddy, you gossipy bitch, you.

That opening scene my gosh. We must be the biggest FF nerds watching this. I have to admit the in-game scenes do look awkward. I only watched episode 1. Will start 2 tomorrow.

Dat Matt and I were talking about this, but the most jarring thing to me is them using in-game music incorrectly. I don't mind when they use it in the real world settings, but it's jarring when they use one location's music at another location. I get why they do it; it's purely thematic of the scene at hand. But for people who play this game a lot, it will probably take you out of the scene a better.

Oh man, you're nerdy at me getting particular about the correct usage of the game music and shit, but truth be told if I played this game beyond the beta I would probably be doing the same thing.

I literally just saw this on Netflix and thought "wait whaaaaaat".

This is the sort of thing we need to watch together in the next EoFF meet-up, guys!

In the first episode why did the son think he shouldn't name his character Inoue?

Shauna
09-03-2017, 09:41 AM
I think - and don't quote me on this, I'm just guessing - that Inoue was his irl name, and it's not that he shouldn't it's that he could name himself something more exciting.

The dad's real name? Maybe not since the son said right before then not to. Maybe it's the son's real name.

Episode 2 was pretty funny though. What dumb things to quit over.

Shauna

Oh. Probably just gonna be a really generic name then. Like calling yourself "John" in game.

So is XIV really like how it's depicted in the show? I'm curious about fishing, dungeons, and the bosses.

Nah. Most of the stuff is cut out. Also, there's no NO reason they would be wiping on Ifrit and Titan so much, even with a noob in their party. xD

Depression Moon

Speaking of Ifrit he doesn't look anything like how he does in the other games. What's with that? He looks just like some generic fire demon.

I genuinely couldn't tell you on that one.

Are the three of us the only ones watching this?

Jinx

If so, it's a damn shame.

Depression Moon
09-05-2017, 02:58 AM
Yo, that would explain why his dad wouldn't tell his family and friend why he quit. He's dying! Now I understand why a man would turn down the running for president. This is sad.

Perhaps I'm just biased, or I don't fully understand, but the Japanese way of life seems so lonely and impersonal. No one is really FRIENDS with anyone else. It's all very formal. I suppose if I grew up in that sort of environment, it wouldn't bother me. But it does when I'm watching this show!

Also, I'm very sad that Suspenders Friend and Love Interest didn't end up being people also playing the game.

I kind of did what I thought I would. Which is watch this for like 3 minutes then realize I didn't really care to watch it.

Jinx

I feel it's kind of a slow introduction. It only gets good when Daddy starts playing the game, but it's absolutely geared towards people who play FFXIV.

Depression Moon
09-05-2017, 03:30 AM
I don't get that at all, because the first three minutes showing him how he got introduced to Final Fantasy was the best moment of the show to me. I felt nostalgic despite not getting my first FF like that.

Depression Moon

I finished the series. Good shit, but in the final episode I felt they could've really shortened that recap. We already saw what happened. We don't need a full rushed one. That time could've been used to go into detail on the two other characters' relationship.

Akio looks really young to have been a child when the first Final Fantasy dropped.

Oh, well that would still make him over 30. He doesn't look that old at all.
