Final Fantasy IX now available on PlayStation 4

Today at Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show (http://www.express.co.uk/entertainment/gaming/855919/Final-Fantasy-IX-PS4-announced-Square-Enix-TGS-2017) press conference it was announced that Final Fantasy IX would be available to download on PlayStation 4 today. Like last year's PC and mobile release, this is a digital port with enhanced graphics.

On top of the polished look there's also trophy support, a PS4 theme background, 8 player icons, and optional "boosters" in the same vein as the Final Fantasy VII port (https://kotaku.com/two-cheats-make-final-fantasy-vii-way-better-on-ps4-1746617898). IX's boosters help you level faster and master weapons at a speedy rate. This is an optional bonus for people who have played the game before and would just like a leisurely nostalgic stroll through the story.

Final Fantasy IX will be regularly priced (https://kotaku.com/final-fantasy-ix-is-headed-to-playstation-4-1818535442) as $20.99, but it has been marked down to $16.79 until September 26th.

With VII and IX now on PS4 with trophies, VIII needs to be there too, to finish off the PS1 trilogy - odd that they went for IX before VIII. I hope this doesn't mean they're skipping VIII...

While you're right that VII and IX are more popular than VIII, VIII still has many, many fans, and would still be a guaranteed money-maker. Square should release it. I really hope it's coming and that they haven't skipped it.

VIII is my second favourite of the series btw, after VII.

Outside of here, I honestly don't see too many actually asking for a VIII remaster. And I do waaaay too much internet browsing.

Like I know it's a big favorite for everyone here and I know it's unfair that your favorite hasn't got the re-release yet. It's just probably not as much of a priority as the other games based on vocal fan wants. It'll probably happen cause it's like the only one missing now. It's just not as big of a priority.

To be fair, I replayed it recently on the VIta. It's aged very well, tbh. Much better than VII thanks to its graphics and very competent translation. So it's not like it desperately needs a remake

I also replayed it recently. For remake/remaster purposes, it doesn't need anything, but neither did IX, and the port of VII. But it's cool that you can now get trophies on VII and IX, and I'd love for VIII to get that same treatment.

I could understand them doing just VII because it's hugely popular, but now that they've done IX, my mind won't feel comfortable until they do VIII too. And my OCD is bothering me that IX got this treatment before VIII did lol.

The thing is, the version of VII ported to PS4 was the PC port released way back. FFVIII had a similar port around the same time, so I guess it's only a matter of time until it goes to PS4. The only reason IX got an update was that it never got a PC release, so they upscaled all the graphics for that. VII didn't get the same treatment.

For me it's worth it for two reasons: 1) trophies, 2) convenience of being on the PS4. I still have my PS1 with the original games but that's just more space taken, more cables, etc for one game. Oh and also the mods (3x speed etc) are great for parents like me with limited time.

To be fair the few top comments I have seen are strictly people saying they want a FFVIII remaster.

It's inevitable that VIII will get the same treatment, I just hope that the reason they are holding out is because they could possibly go down the VII remake route. Unlikely but one can dream!

I'm surprised it was released but it's not a priority for me. I bought it for the PS3 and even have it on my PSP. So with portable option taken care of, I don't really see a reason to pick up a minor remaster when I already have the original and two more copies on systems I still play.

pretty cool they gave it the VII treatment, but, i'm with several others, it makes no sense that they would release IX before VIII... i'm not buying into "it's more popular" either considering VIII sold 8.8M copies and IX only sold 5.7M copies (http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy) in all formats comparatively... i really do hope they give VIII the same treatment as VII & IX, it would be a real shame if they did not... also $20 for IX when VII sales for $15 is ridiculous, think i'll wait until it's like 70% off for PS+ members or something like another Square-Enix sale, there's no way i'll pay more for a lesser game, it should be the same price as VII at the most... i'll get it eventually but, the current criteria is just wrong...

It did! And the PS4 version of FFVII is the Steam version too. And the Steam version of VII was just the PC port from way back. So XI didn't actually get the VII treatment - it got treated better!

Actually it came out last year. 2016. This ps4 version is, of course, a pc port, with all the errors and bugs and possibly crashes of the pc version. Unfortunately in this scenario I, nor anyone else can fix it. While I admire its going back to its roots on PlayStation, not in this way. Leave it to them to ignore the bug reporting.
Nothing worse than a game crashing on a console, I guess.


Oh well, I got FFIX too many times, now it won't be a last, that ps4 version is sorry. replay value, lost.
