A guy on my social media feed just named his child Joff. I'm stunned. Who would look at a child and think, I think he's a Joff! :roll2

Creek, this lady had two more normalish water names of kids, Brook and River. But the third was just Creek.

There was a kid actually named Duck.

Rowdy is a popular name here too.

i'm sure i'll think of more. They have some stupid names around here for kids.

I've met/worked with a Philistine (no, really). Her parents liked the way it sounded.

When I taught martial arts years ago, I taught a sister and brother. They were named Chyna and Blade (no, seriously). Good names if you want your kids to be professional wrestlers? Not going to lie, it's cool in a ridiculous way.

It gets weird here when people try to be fancy by giving their kids English names because, you know, they heard it on TV so it's fancy. It's all well and good if we're still talking about fairly international names, but a popular choice is Jessica. And it sounds completely different in Polish, and not in a good way. Some people even Polishify the spelling, creating DŹESIKA

Also, knew a woman who had two kids - one was named Gracjan, a very obscure but also very old and traditional Polish name, while the other was Kevin. And no, Kevin is not one of those universal names. I think someone needs to learn about the benefits of sticking to a theme

When they have a normal common name like Kate, but changed to be "fancy " and "unique " to " stand out "; like Kate is now " KatVIII " or " Kayate " or " Ca8 " or something like that. Just, no. Stop.

If you want to be unique, just find a old fashioned name that hasn't been used in a while and is rare now or something. Call her Opaline or something, instead of " Danyieeell " for that poor Danielle.

I had a long list of names where the given and the family name make up an inappropriate word or phrase (insomuch as it may apply to the English language), also the initials BJ and the name Jetta Night.

I once upset an old girlfriend by saying that if we ever got around to having kids we should just name the kid Telephone. Okay, so this was a LONG time ago when I said this (and technology was in a different place), so the logic was that all you have to do is say one word when someone calls for the hypothetical kid. She said I was lazy. I said that we would cumulatively save a bunch of time.
