Vagrant Story

I'm considering getting Vagrant Story off of Amazon once I get my PS2 back, so I'm looking to get some opinions from you EoFFers who've played/completed this game regarding its story, gameplay, etc. I've read its synopsis, and having played FF12 years ago and loved it, I'm really intrigued by it.

It’s incredible, but also very difficult and very cryptic when it comes to its mechanics. Use a guide on crafting as you really won’t survive without it. Wolf Kanno made a VERY handy guide somewhere around here that helped me a bunch but I can’t find it right now.
