We all love RPGs, it's why we're all here (mostly) and why we have a forum dedicated to it. So what are some trends and changes you would like to see in the genre? Want to see some old mechanics like turn base get more love? Wish devs added more one-on-one character moments to help develop the party dynamics? More emphasis on exploration and /or player choices? What are the things you like in your favorite games that need to go into the future of the genre and what are things from games you don't like that should be left behind?

I love morality choices where there's no gauge that determines what you can pick. Let me pick whichever choice for whichever situation, then endure the consequences of my choices. I don't like it when the game tells me I'm not corrupt enough to shoot the police because I chose to save a bunch of orphans earlier in my journeys.
I also enjoy the older combat styles. IA part of why I'm playing an rpg is for rpg combat, not super action quicktime events or spam a button action games.

I'd like a JRPG that picks up on what WRPGs are doing without doing it too far. In other words, get me a JRPG but give me an Assassin's Guild questline, a Thieve's Guild questline, etc. I suppose that'd end up a bit like a MMO in some sense, but I'd love to see a main plot but with some side plots that you can take on when you're getting a bit bored of the main story, or at least just to flesh out the world a bit more. A few JRPGs have touched on this but I don't feel to a huge degree.
Oh, and lore. Lots of really interesting lore.

I guess I'd like to see a return to ATB. While a lot of people hated that style of battle system, I always enjoyed it.
Aside from that, most of my gripes in terms of fantasy include color palette/shading choices matched with the settings and characters. I could go on for hours about the importance of artistic presentation and how recent media doesn't stack up, but I think that's another topic for another time.

A return to turn based combat, preferably along the lines of FF12/14 in a game that doesn't look like a cartoon. Producers seem to be too obsessed with action-RPG gameplay nowadays and I don't find it half as enjoyable.
