PM me with your top 10 fav JRPGs that don't come from Square/ Squaresoft or Enix. So no Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Star Ocean, Kingdom Hearts etc.

(JRPGS and WRPGS!)

You can include more than one game from the same series, so you can do Persona 1, Persona 2, Persona 3 etc- if you want.

I realized sending in my list I haven't played a TON of RPGs outside of Final Fantasy, so my list is a lot of Fire Emblem and Pokemon. :lol:

I came very close to forgetting one of my absolute favorite games for that list, and am still kicking myself over it. Managed to keep Pokemon off the list, though. Was tempted, but tried to diversify the list.

Note: I'm unsure if Fire Emblem and Pokemon count as RPGs, but I'm going to count Pokemon and Fire Emblems as they are more up to debate. I mean FE is pretty much a tactical RPG and Pokemon is pretty much Turn Based RPG.

Oh they're both definitely RPGs, I think the more divisive ones would be The Legend of Zelda or Castlevania's Post-SotN entires cause arguments can be made that they are and are not RPGs.

Obviously I nommed these two games, so I believe they're RPGs (and they are), but JRPG Dad has spoken, maybee.

Yeah surprised not to see more love for that series. And while I didn't *expect* Falcom JRPGs to be particularly represented, still sad to see not a single Ys or Trails game make it in x.x

Yeah, that surprised me too! That's why I let WRPGs through, so people could vote for Witcher and Dark Souls.

I hadn't heard of Hydlide, but it doesn't seem to have been regarded as a bad game. At least for its time. I'd wager it's a bit primitive to stand up against most of the games in this competition, but I was kind of expecting something notoriously bad.

Hydlide 2 isn't bad, but a bit grindy, and Hydlide 3D is awful, but actually had some interesting concepts. As for the original I've seen a couple of reviewers cover it. I think ProJared and AVGN did videos on it, and both though it was pretty crazy and stupid, but not only in basic old school ways that are expected, there are actually a lot of crazy secret stuff to continue that I'm not sure many normal people would have figured out back in the day. I imagine most people have fond memories of it simply because it is attached to their childhood. I wonder if anyone who was an actual adult remembers it as fondly from back then
