View Full Version : Were Tifa and Aeris friends?

Because most of the game they're pretty :bou::bou::bou::bou:y to one another. Frankly, I don't understand why they'd fight over a short, moody shit with ridiculous hair (although Aeris' bangs...), but whatever.

Were they actually friends?

If you take them both out of the party, they seem to be together speaking to each other and just chatting sometimes, so going to say yeah. Not to mention how heartbroken and crushed Tifa is when Aerith "goes on holiday ".

I remember them chatting together in Junon and Cosmo Canyon if you don't take them to the observatory.

At first, they are a bit bitchy to each other, but after Junon and beyond, they seem to become friends.

I'm with maybee on this one. At first tifa is jealous of Aeris but then after they get to know each other for a while they start to forget about all that stuff.
I wonder if anyone actually is friends with cait sith cos i dont remember anything between him and anyone else

Edit: also im pretty sure Aeris like cloud cos he looked like Zack. and Tifa was with him for a long time and a childhood "friend", so thats why they fought over him

Naaaah. Aerith wanted to know the real Cloud. She says on their date which is the Canon Gold Saucer date, that she wants to meet the "real you ", and she knows that he reminds her of Zack, but she's not interested in that. She's moved on.

Aerith is curious by Cloud and wants to know what he's really like.

Tifa fancies Cloud because he saved her from a falling death while she was exploring Mt Nibel when they were children and sort of has a "Damsel " kink/ fantasy going on. Tifa is weeeeird because she likes being a butt-kicking warrior, but she also likes being saved by her "knight ".

It could be worse though, there are worse kinks out there.

I can't even remember a single instance of either of them being umaroy to the other. Friends might be pushing it though. They didn't know each other for terribly long.

The closest they ever got to being rivals or jealous of each other due to Cloud was when they first met in Don Corneo's mansion - there is a mild line from Tifa when Cloud says Aeris helped him that could be read as jealousy, but after that, they seem fine. They even seem to be joking along with each other in that same scene about how Cloud must feel to have to stand there and listen to the two of them call him "nothing", so they were bonding even then.

It's pretty cool that they didn't bother with a rivalry, really, in my opinion.

Returning to this thread because I remembered another scene - when they're in the cells at the Shinra Building, there's slight moment when Aeris finds out Cloud and Tifa are in the same cell, but again, it goes by pretty quickly.

I'd like to hear about the scenes I overlooked, though.

I think you're embellishing the level of interaction they have in the game. Even if you exclusively have both Tifa and Aeris in your party at all times where that's possible, I doubt it's very much. They probably each say their scripted thing with no cognition of who else is in the party. Or to put it another way, even though I didn't have both in my party at all times, I've probably seen all the interaction between them the game has to offer and there's precious little rudeness between them, subtle or otherwise.

Trolling is a word that has lost all meaning, and this is an example of why. :p

Everything in their interactions said to me they were friends when dealing with anything other than their rivalry for Cloud, but I imagine that it's very easy for a lot of people to project their own feelings and personality traits, or those of people they know, into the characters.

Thankfully a lot of things in this game are very open to interpretation and personal preference, and I love that the developers have embraced this rather than giving "this is the correct opinion" declarations like some other media companies have done.

Whatever. I'm not saying it's trolling because you don't like FF7, but because you tried to put words in my mouth that you probably knew I didn't intend. It's light trolling, but I think it still qualifies. There might be a better word for it, but whatever.

Probably 12. Everybody who hates real FF loves 12. I guess because it's practically a WRPG.

This doesn't make any sense because FF12 embraces the world of Final Fantasy Tactics. Which is a Final Fantasy.

Also, the main characters and NPCs have bad fashion sense.

If somebody is strolling around town wearing baggy ripped 2000 pants with a pink thong on top- hunny it's a real FF.

Aerith sasses Tifa a fair bit but I don't remember her returning fire.

Poooor ff12 :(
Ff12 is as much a jrpg as ffix and ffv, the other 2 best games imo.
Although as WZ pointed out on discord, jrpg and wrpg are really not great terms lol.

(Also im pretty sure jinx hates 12 too but meow)

Well that's respectable. The only complaints I have on 9 are the lull that sets in about halfway through disc 2 and runs through most of disc 3 and the kind of cringeworthy "haha my eidolon is better than your eidolon" behavior in the same period. I honestly believe that if the entire game were as good as the first disc it would be my favorite FF. Mostly that stuff wears on me on replays. FF9 was actually my favorite immediately after playing it.

Thats a cool opinion since id think thats most people's favourite part of FFIX. I dont really narrow it down to a part since I love the entire game.

It's funny. I remember years ago being one of the outliers who actually loved FFIX when everyone hated it. Now it's one of the most well-loved entries in the series (I'd still say FFVII and FFVI love beat it out).

It's been so long, I don't know what I would have called their relationship at the time, but now that I've grown up and experienced life a tad, I can say from what I remember that their relationship was more like co-worker friendship than real friendship. They are both kind souls and wouldn't want anything bad to happen to each other, and enjoyed each other's company while they were around each other, but I don't think either of them would have went out of their way to visit one another outside of the immediate party relationship they had in the game. I think they liked each other to a degree and appreciated each other's existence. And that might be a kind of friendship or close acquaintance, but I don't feel like they're anywhere close to besties or anything. They're just both polite caring people who can enjoy each other's company given the opportunity

Edit: Also, I flip-flopped on 12, but still hate 9. And while I called out the pacing in another thread, I've always felt the theme of the game to be very pastel. The look, the music, the story, was always too light and colorful for my tastes. And while I considered most of the game to be a chore, I wasn't consciously aware that there was a noticeable downgrade in content and pacing in the middle, but that could go a long way to explaining why that feeling of boring pastel content has stuck with me

Remember that too. Everybody hated the character designs believing that it was babyish or something.

I'm still not a fan of the over-sized head look, but it's not that extreme in FF9. At any rate, it's a minor issue and easily forgotten once you get into playing the game.
