Time's Scar is one of my favorite pieces of video game music. But this is about games, not music. And DQVII has CC beat in the game play department. I like the elemental system and ton of characters in CC, but you know me and I'm a sucker for job systems. And DQVII is one of the best. Everything falls together so neatly. You have three master vocations and monster vocations and your four party members at the end fill those slots. And I loved the episodic feel of the story too.

I did not expect this would happen, but I actually prefer DQVII

Definitely Chrono Cross. It has its faults certainly, but so does DQVII, and I'm more interested in the story of CC.
