Simple question, how old were you when you played your fave entry in the franchise? Were you a wee thing or were ya starting to show a bit of grey in your hair?

Depends on which favorite, since it’s basically three games. I played FFTA when I was about 13, XII when I was 16 and VI when I was around 11. So I guess I was on the younger side, though I imagine not as young as some people.

FFVI is my favorite. I played it for the first time at like 4-5 years old with my father (the coop mode of course :P ), but I played it quite often since then.

Like 18. I played V before but it was on the PlayStation or fan translation ROM. Advanced was when it became my favorite.

After doing some digging around, I was apparently 10. I remember we got FFVIII after IX was already out, and I know that I got into the series before X came out because I remember already being a fan when I was seeing X advertisements on Toonami.

I think I was 11 or 12 when I played FF6 for the first time on the PSONE ! Though I hated FF6 originally and I didn't really enjoy it till I replayed it when I was about 18.

I was in high school when I got a used copy of FFX, my favorite game in the series.

This sounds about right for me, too.

I used to browse the pages of Final Fantasy Online before I came here and I just did a search on the Wayback Machine for how the website looked during that timeframe. Just as I remembered it.

When I try to date my age in the fandom I just ballpark it by saying I remember buying physical copies of Final Fantasy VII and Tactics when they were still available new in stores, at least as greatest hits.

That'd be post-revamp FFXIV, so 25. Technically the first time I played XIV was when I was 22, but 1.0 was pretty much an entirely different game. :p

FFIX--I was 13, got it used for like $9 (this is back when people still hated it). I hated it. Picked it up again a few years later and it clicked.

I know I was in Year 7 at school, so either 11 or 12. And... that would be 20 years ago. Wow.

When it comes to answering these kinds of questions I usually just say "Like 12" without a thought because so much time has passed by it's too much effort to remember my exact age at the time...
THAT SAID, IN THIS CASE, yeah I was 12. Or roughly, but, if it turns out I was younger I might just have an age related existential crisis. It's difficult to accept its been so long!

Like many folk here I was 11 when I played my favorite FF (VII) but I only got a few hours into it and it didn't click with me until I replayed it 9 years later.

Nothing like the glow of memberberries to color one's experience of their best and worst times. The first Final Fantasy title I became familiar with was Final Fantasy IV (then known on the SNES as Final Fantasy II). But I didn't actually play. I only had the privelege of watching my cousin fight Cagnazzo.

The first game I played and completed in the series was Final Fantasy VII and it's been my fave ever since. I picked it up at Hollywood Video (back when rental stores provided game rentals) the second it became available. Prior to this, the last Squaresoft game I had played was either SaGa Frontier or the PlayStation release of Chrono Trigger.

So to answer the question, in 1997, I was 13.
