Square-Enix held a concert in Japan recently celebrating Kingdom Hearts music. At the end of the show, Nomura appeared on stage to announce story DLC for KHIII which will serve as KHIII's version of the Final Mix releases of previous installments. No date was given for the release.

It will feature more story scenes in the game, secret episode, and more bosses. Japanese players will also get the option to switch to the English VA.

I'm personally hoping that it finally lets the other keyblade users playable.

Probably not Kairi though. She's just a set piece.

Poor Kairi. Her treatment throughout the series is one of the big reasons as to why I'm not into KH anymore.

I'm still mad about what they did to her in the ending.

Kairi’s a strong independent woman who don’t need no agency

Yeah Kairi pretty much began and ended as a character after the first game. Funny how she has more screen time and personality in an entry where she spends most of the game in a coma when her heart isn't making Sora hallucinate.

That’s also like the only game where she has an actual personality and some spunk even. Later on she just becomes this Yamato Nadeshiko ideal and it’s just so disappointing. I don’t hate her as a character - I just feel so, so bad for her. Nomura, sadly, can’t write women, I feel.

Aqua wasn't so bad, and Xion was pretty good in 358/2. Namine, much like Kairi had some great potential but basically got sidelined after her initial appearance as well.

I feel part of Kairi's issue was that Nomura basically dropped the whole fairy tale aspect of the Princess of Hearts after the first game, only giving it a bit of lip service in BbS and from what I've heard, KHIII and that basically killed what he probably felt was the only interesting aspect of her character.

New Trailer for the DLC with captions in English for those who don't mind minor spoilers. Apparently Nomura is teasing some other third story for Kingdom Hearts, (https://www.siliconera.com/2019/09/10/tetsuya-nomura-teases-an-unannounced-third-story-line-for-kingdom-hearts/) sighting the DLC as one he just finished and then a series of chapters for Union Cross as the second one. So we might be getting a new KH game on the horizon.

SE has been dropping info on what to expect from ReMind DLC which will largely work like a Final Mix implementation for KHIII. Most of the new content takes place towards the end of the game and focuses on telling other stories that transpired without Sora.

The content will feature:

updated versions of the Teal Organization XIII Bosses with greater challenge.
Ability to play as other characters such as Riku, Roxas, Aqua, and allegedly Kairi and some other characters.
There may be combination attacks added into the game.
There is an overhauled difficulty selection mode that will allow players to customize the challenge of the game to their needs whether they want to tone it down to just enjoy the plot versus those that want to make the most challenging form of Critical Mode they can dream up. Details are still scarce on this though.
There is also a picture/slideshow mechanic that seems designed to let you customize photos you take or recreate cutscenes.
Japanese version will have "English Mode".

There is also a new update to the game coming next month which will add Oathkeeper and Oblivion into the game as usable keyblades. Surprised they weren't already...
