We won't be introduced to the world map until part 2 of the FF7R.

What do you expect to see?

I want to step outside of Midgar and see hordes of wild motor bikes grazing in the fields.

Honestly, I don't think we'll see anything that resembles a world map until probably the Big Materia quest line. I can honestly see future episodes just using cutscenes to segue us into new locations and have them focus on just making detailed and intricate dungeons and town locations in order to maintain a larger than life scale to the setting.

If they did decide to make a world map due to either feeling a need or more likely caving into fan demand, I imagine it will be like FFXV's World map and they'll likely retool Chocobo acquisition or make the Hardy-Daytona/Truck combo stick around to get around faster if they tried to build these maps to scale.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’ll look like the open worlds of today. Honestly, I’m fairly certain Midgar itself is going to be an open world environment

God I hope not

You know it’s gonna happen

If "we've expanded Midgar a stand alone game!" turns into "kill 12 Guard Dogs and collect your reward from the bar" I am gonna be so salty

Hey, the Witcher 3 had an open world environment and averted that completely. While these things often overlap, one is not a prerequisite for the other

The various locations of FFVII are so diverse that it seems like a great challenge to have a true open world concept. My guess is that there will be a fast travel map leading to big areas similar to a game like FFX-2.

The only *Fast Travel* in Final Fantasy VII is riding on the back of a freaking golden chocobo than you very much

I never got a golden Chocobo. I never got knights of the round. I never beat any of the weapons. Did I even play FFVII?

I don't think you did. Playing FFII and FFV does not equal playing FFVII

I have played FFII & FFV, but I never completed either.

Am I even a loyal fan?

Do I even deserve to grace the name moogle?

It's plausible to me that they'll turn distinct areas into "maps" like Final Fantasy XV has. In some ways, it might even feel a little more coherent as far as world-building? I'm not sure; Midgar-Kalm-Chocobo Ranch is the first real combination of locations we get and they feel a little nonsensical in terms of distance from each other.

It's a shame that we won't get any answers on this until Part 2 is announced. But, that gives us plenty of time to speculate!

I'd love for the Remake to retain a traditional world map. If it's an open world like FFXV then it runs the chance of feeling empty. The only thing that made travel bearable in FFXV was the banter between Noctis & Co.

What do you mean? The chocobos need some wide open grazing ground far off enough from Midgar for some greens to grow. I don't know WTF Kalm's doing out in the boonies, but maybe the townspeople wanted some fresher air too. I always assume with these games that there's more towns that actually exist in the world than the ones they show, which are just representative. So maybe it shouldn't be literally taken as there's this big city and then a whole lot of completely empty space before the next inhabited settlement.

I wonder if there will be roads. Midgar has a highway that literally leads to nowhere.

Haha. That's true. Is it damaged though or still under construction? I mean it just terminates in midair. Is it even supposed to be a highway through the world or just a loop around Midgar?
