What it says on the tin. Name a game where the Western box art is different from the original Japanese box art and surprisingly better than it.
I present you:

One of the few games that comes to mind (and a JRPG at that):
76499
76500
Granted neither of the two is particularly great, but at least the NA one is more than just a generic background.
I can't think of any myself, but the ones you guys have shown are cool.

Dragon Quest, I think, but I'm not good at finding these.
Hard disagree. Akira Toriyama's artwork is far more iconic than... whatever the hell this is

Heck, even for DQXI where at least they have character designs that match the game, why go for this

Because Toriyama art looks ridiculous.

Someone's itching for a fight from the sounds of things. Excuse me while I scream for a few minutes until I'm powered up. Then we can tussle.

I thought I'd get more flak for the ET comment.
Pretty sure nobody has actually played ET here, so they can't really get heated about it being bad because it's all just hearsay. But everybody loves Toriyama.

I've played E.T. on Atari, and it is indeed a shit show, but I also agree that the Atari had a lot games just as bad or worse.
The DQ thing really comes down to whether you like Toriyama's art or not. Personally, I feel his art tends to showcase what DQ is really like, with a certain amount of whimsy to them. Whereas the generic D&D style covers of the NES entries can throw you for a loop when you see all of Toriyama's cutesy monster designs in game.

DQ4 has great box art though

It's also incredibly generic

Character salad but it's Toriyama is not really any less generic to me, they're about the same
Nah. One immediately tells you it's Dragon Quest. The other one might be the cover of any 80s/90s RPG. It could also be a cover of a tabletop RPG handbook.
Also, character salad? Excuse you

Yeah, but I look at the dragon on one and think generic but kind of cool. I look at the dragon on the other and immediately laugh. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but omg, I can't stop laughing.
