Dragon Quest I-III are coming to the Switch eShop

This was announced a while ago, but what makes this significant is that they'll actually be coming to Europe and North America as well which usually doesn't happen.

They are ports of the SNES Remakes for the game, so people who picked up the mobile version will know what they are getting into. The games will be released September 27th 2019, the same time as Dragon Quest XIS.

They do not look like ports of the SNES to me. They are using completely different, MUCH worse sprites. It actually looks TERRIBLE.

On further investigations, these ports seem to be based on the mobile versions (https://www.polygon.com/nintendo-switch/2019/9/16/20868421/dragon-quest-1-2-3-nintendo-switch), not the Super Famicom one. Though they don't look that bad to me.

They're even spruced up compared to the mobile ports. They look pretty good, watchu talkin about

They definitely look worse to me. Like the FF6 mobile port is "spruced up" from the original. Same issue with incongruent combinations of new sprites and old tilesets, the new sprites just being worse than the old ones, etc. I found it especially bad looking at some of the monster sprite screenshots.

But if it makes more people enjoy DQ, well, I don't have a Switch to worry about it anyway.
