View Full Version : Taking bets on when it will come out.

Let's start one of the newer traditions with the series, taking bets on when we'll actually get a release.

2023 keeps rattling in my head, but the trailer looked a bit more finished than some other FF trailers we've had in the past. I may optimistically say 2022.

2024/2025.

2022. But that may be too optimistic just on the basis of the fact that it looks way more along the way than XIII or Versus did when they were announced.

Also, Wolf what are we betting on if we win/lose ? Our first borns ? The keys to Fynn's car ? A date with Christmas ? A kick up the arse ?

You'll win Fynn's microwave. ;)

Whatís the funniest about these suggestions is that I donít own a microwave and my only car is my work car.

So yeah, you can bet on the things I donít own, thatís fine by me ;)

That's the joke, the prize is nothing.

Wait does everyone here know I donít own a microwave?

They almost always announce their games too early, so I would say at least 2023, but maybe later.

I would hope for 2022 but 2023 seems more likely. What I wonder is what will be released first, FFXVI or FFVIIR-2.

I think itís fair to assume that XVI has been in development for much longer than VIIR2. Plus, one is headed by a person known for having their shit really together in terms of management, while the other, well...

The only info on this is a job ad from November 2019 where it said the game "is now going into full production":
https://www.rpgsite.net/news/9790-final-fantasy-xiv-s-naoki-yoshida-dismisses-final-fantasy-xvi-rumors-as-fake-news

Given that they only released Shadowbringers in July 2019, it seems entirely possible that they only started it quite recently, which would probably mean 2022 at the absolute earliest.

My guess is that FF7R Part 2 comes out first.

I want to say holiday 2022 but 2023 wouldn't be a surprise.

To be honest I don't mind regardless. That's something I've gotten pretty good about over the past couple of years. There's just so much to play, read, watch, experience etc that I'm not waiting on baited breath for release dates anymore. I'll be happy to play it when it comes out and just do a bunch of other cool stuff in the meantime.

I don't know if VIIR Part 2 will come out first. Yes they have all the assets ready for the most part, but the post release interviews give the impression they have only started pre-production at most for the game. XVI by contrast may have had a full year start on it and already looks a tad closer to being on it's way to being finished. The other factor is that the develipment teams have different track records of getting shit done. VIIR had a five year turn around period between it's announcement and it's release. The XIV team on the other hand were able to completely retool the XIV original within two years, and have consistently released expansions every two years. While I imagine making a new IP will take longer than they are used to, this team tends to be better about releasing things on schedule.

Likewise, VIIReps2 will likely have a slower production because most of the gaming community assumes it will be released for both PS4 and the PS5. Whereas XVI has only been in development for the next gen system, so not as many resources are going to be stretched. This is also assuming a smaller separate team will likely be working on a PS5 port for Episode 1.

It's up in the air but I think I'm mostly with WK on this one.

Given that FFVIIR came out this year and we already have a trailer for this game, I'd say this might come out first.

On the other hand there's so much they can reuse in R-2 because they already have a basis to go off of so :gator:

It's funny cause the dead horse joke is that SE takes 35 years between game releases yet simultaneously there are a select number who also believe R-2 will be coming in red hot after the first one.

Unless we see VII part 2 announce a 2022 release date, that's also what I'll go for. And whichever one doesn't make that will be 2023.

It would be nice if they weren't too far apart this time, like XVI in November '22, VII in March '23. But I won't hold my breath.

FF7R and FFXV had their first trailers like 4-5 years before they released. I don't think you can infer much from that at all. I think we got a trailer simply because it was the console reveal, and they wanted to broadcast the idea that FF16 would be one of the big games of the next gen!

My current prediction is FF7R Part 2 will be christmas 2022, meaning over 2.5 years since Part 1. Then FF16 will be 2023, based on the assumption that they only went into full production after finishing the last 14 expansion.

My guess is 2022 for FFXVI, 2024 for VIIR Part 2.

Doubt VIIR part 2 and XVI will release the same year. Strictly from a financial standpoint, Square would probably try to avoid it.

I'm going with this one not suffering a switch of console and restart of development like FFvsXII. It seems the general track record is that between announcing a single player main numbered title and releasing the game, since FFXII it's been 7/6/5 years (or 11 if you count FFXV since the start of FFvsXIII). So, I'd say that we're looking down at least 3 years post announcement. It's 2020, so 2023 seems the earliest option unless they learned something from the XIII sequels and/or WoFF that will allow them to speed up the process. Sadly I'm not that confident. People are saying that it looks like it's further along the development, but presonally I don't put much weight in a trailer. They even admitted about FFXV that they had a trailer out before they had any form of playable game, if I recall correctly.

According to a discussion with Jason Schreier on a podcast he was on he has sources suggesting it's been in development for 4 years, and could be out sooner than we expect.

Even assuming that's all true I'd wager 2022 at the absolute earliest, maybe March/April if we're incredibly lucky.

Yeah the first XV trailer ended up having 0% of the final game in it Lol. Literally nothing in that trailer is in the final game.

The fact they're promising a website up by next month is already a step in the right direction and give me hope the game is further along than people think. I still expect a minimum of two years from now in the most optimistic scenario, but I wouldn't be surprised if SE had been working on this so it would launch within a year of the PS5's release.

I think the 4 years in development claim is a bit sketchy, but they've definitely had some work on it, so I'll say 2022.

Late 2021/ Early 2022 Seems like what they're implying with the 4 year dev and "you'll see it sooner than you think" speech

But...who knows?

Considering that one of them referred to a joke about 2035, "sooner than you think" is not necessarily all that soon. It's also not taking into account the unexpected, but inevitable delays.

My mistake, it was Jason Schreier (who breaks alot of gaming news tbf)

https://www.nme.com/news/gaming-news/final-fantasy-xvi-is-reportedly-coming-sooner-than-people-think-2763085

On Thursday (September 24), Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier claimed during the latest Triple Click podcast episode that Final Fantasy XVI has been in development for ďat leastĒ the past four years and will arrive faster than Final Fantasy XV.

ďIíve heard from people who know the game, have worked on the game or are familiar with the gameís development that itís actually been in development for at least four years in some capacity. So itís coming sooner than people think,Ē he said.

Schreier also added that Final Fantasy XV might have ďset a terrible precedentĒ, citing the gameís long development time. ďIt was announced as [Final Fantasy Versus XIII] in 2006 and then took 10 years to make, so I think [the developers] want to shy away from that. It makes sense.Ē

It was something I had read and it came close to when the team was speaking about it, so it probably got jumbled up in my head :spin:
