I really miss visiting a lot of shrine sites. Or reading about the stories of people who made/moderated/contributed to them. Or even the random drama that could unfold www.lunarthreads.com/viewtopic.php?t=255&start=0

I realize there's the waybackmachine but is there a broader compendium of these sites from back in the day?

Something like this would be awesome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyTPAN7uvoU&t=12s

I was always sad that I missed the... what was it, Fool's Gold era of EoFF?

Turn of the millennia had some really great internet chat and forum moments.

It really was great. The Wild West era of the internet where forums were king. I still cling to the old ways but most everyone has moved on. :p

Whatever mod deleted the original bot reply is a scoundrel and a coward

Oh my god, I knew so many people like that. What the hell was it about the early 00 era anime/video game fan that made people so catty? People were just discovering the tsundare trope and decided to wholeheartedly absorb its essence even when the behavior makes no sense

I'm afraid I don't know of any compendium but I share the nostalgia for the humble (yet often very ambitious) fan site of that era.

GameFaq is one of those. Is it still alive?
