Vivi and the Ending...did you realize?

It was either 2002 or early 2003 when I first played IX. I was at most 14. I do not make claims to have been a particularly bright kid but I know I'm not alone in totally missing out on the fact Vivi had died by the ending montage. In retrospect, it's pretty obvious given what is said in the game and the entire point of his character but...well, a lot of that went over my head at the time.

Fittingly enough, I played through the PS1 games at the same age as their title. I was 7 when I first played 7, 8 when I played 8, and 9 when I played 9. I don't really remember whether or not I realized Vivi died; I definitely knew he didn't have much longer to live as a manufactured lifeform, and I knew that the ending fmv was a bit of a timeskip from the events of the ending, but I don't know if the two facts "clicked" together for me. But by the second time I played through the game (probably within a month or two, since it was my favorite game for a long time) I knew from the beginning that Vivi would die at the end, so at some point between beating it and replaying it my brain had ironed out the details.
