For me, I've been on a bit of an anime binge recently:
Currently Watching (latest watched ep in brackets)
Aoashi (S1 E5)
Demon Slayer (S1 E5)
My Stepmom's Daughter is My Ex (S1 E7)
Your Lie in April (S1 E10)
Recently Finished (latest watched ep in brackets)
Tomodachi Game (S1 E12)
Spy X Family (S1 E12)
Psycho-Pass (S1 E22)
86 Eighty-Six (S1 E23)
Erased (S1 E12)
Classroom of the Elite (S1 E12)
Aware some of these might have more episodes since I watched them, I know Classroom of the Elite is in it's second season for example. I tend to wait for seasons to end so I can binge watch them.

I didn't know a new season was out! I'm excited now. I watched the first 3 seasons and the OVAs but didn't keep up on recent news.
When I first started watching this show back when season 1 came out, I thought based on the name it might be a corny harem anime. But it ended up having a lot of heart and great laughs. It's fantastic.

There are a lot of Jap anime on individuals being transported to some weird worlds. Guess that is the thing nowadays.
Loony BoB
09-05-2022, 01:21 PM
Yeah, there are some big trends going on with the "go to another world" or "transported into a game" or "my real life is now a video game and I have menus etc!" and so on.
Finished Monster on the weekend - man, what a great anime! I love the more mature stuff where you follow people who are, you know, over 18. I need more adult anime in my life. Nana, Ghost in the Shell, Higehiro, Berserk, Pysho-Pass, Cowboy Bebop, Baccano!, Planetes, Gangsta, and now Monster. All wonderfully worth the watch.
Adult casted anime just hit different for me.

They have a name for it! But I think it is kinda overused by now. Such show is usually accompanied by a bunch of unnecessary anime girls. Like a harem or sort.

Finished watching Tremors for a spooky movie month, started watching the new Interview With The Vampire series on AMC.
Just finished a complete rewatch of all series of Hajime no Ippo, holds up much better than I expected it too. Not really big on anime but it was my first and holds a special place in my heart. Apparently it's been picked up and supposed to be getting released on Netflix and I've heard they've had a good track record of reviving series like Baki, so considering the Ippo anime only covers roughly 1/3rd of what is one of the longest on going serializations of manga in history I'm hoping they'll give it the same treatment.

What do you think so far?
It's good! I'm currently just a few episodes into season 3, the Underworld story arc. So far the first season is definitely my preferred one, although the second arc of season 2 was very touching. I hear the third and fourth season are better than the first, but I'll let myself form my own opinion, so far the third season is a bit underwhelming but a good ending often has a slow beginning (hi, True Detective Season 1).
The most recent show I watched and finished was "Locke and Key". I thought it was pretty good overall.
Currently working through "The Wheel of Time" on Amazon but I haven't had much time to watch because of work and school. I'm hoping to catch a few episodes this weekend since I took Monday off to have some me time.

Finished Sword Art Online, which was overall good, hope to see more of it. First season is still probably the best one for me, but the others held up and were worth the watch.
Been rewatching Lost with a friend who's not seen it, and man, I really enjoy it. I remember the lengthy chats we had in EoFF about Lost when it first aired. Nostalgia! It was the Game of Thrones of it's time, and it so far holds up fantastically - but then, I am still on the first season. I really want another show like Lost to appear soon.

I really want another show like Lost to appear soon.
You should check out From.
It stars Harold Perrineau and is from the Executive Producers of Lost. It's a giant mystery box of a show that has gotten a lot of praise from Lost fans.
I haven't seen Lost, but this show is really great. It'll hook you.
It's about a town that you can't leave once you enter it. If you try to leave you drive in circles and just come back into town again. Monsters who disguise themselves as regular people come out at night, so the townspeople have to stay indoors when it gets dark.

Akudama Drive had an awesome style bleeding from it, just adored the aesthetic and music. The characters were cliché (not always a bad thing but not a great thing either) and the story was decent but not outstanding.
Bluelock is cool, but not as good as Aoashi which I was watching before it. Both football anime, but Bluelock has a kind of Battle Royale touch to it, whereas Aoashi is more what I would call a genuine football anime that reminds me of other quality sports anime like Haikyuu!.
I'm currently drifting between series. Watched about five episodes of Laid-Back Camp which has a really relaxing, calming feel to it. It doesn't get me excited for the next episode but it is just a wholesome chill vibe.
More Than A Married Couple, But Not Lovers is entertaining enough to serve as my current dinner-time TV. Not gonna lie, I'm a simp for Watanabe.
I tried Orient, Beast Tamer Mob Psycho 100 and Chainsaw Man but none of them grabbed me. I might give some of them another shot later on, so many people have suggested Chainsaw Man to me that I feel it might be worth watching some more to see how it evolves.

Most United fans (at least going by the United forum I post in occasionally) are in agreement with the rest of the world on Bruno being an absolute tool when it comes to play acting. We hate it. Probably not as much as people who don't like United in the first place, but yeah.
I'm actually pretty happy with most of our players in that they don't appear to be terribly known for it, but they'd have a hell of a mission trying to outdo Bruno. He's as bad as Ronaldo was. I don't want him to leave the team like I did with Ronaldo but I absolutely want him to get a kick up the arse over his antics. He earns a lot of yellows with his bitching, too. It's frustrating.

All the American politicians die and he gets promoted to president of the USA despite only being in pest control or something. It's pretty good and his assistant in it is hot. I'll probably marry her some day.

Witness for the Prosecution as part of my goal of someday seeing the entire IMDb top 250 films of all time. Very well done. Holds up nicely.
Also watched Top Gun: Maverick last night and that was a great mix of nostalgia and modern fun. Original is still better, but I suppose that goes without saying.

Got around to watching Avatar: Way of the Water - actually thought it was a little better than the first one! Not amazing, but more solid because I wasn't spending the entire time thinking about how it was just sci-fi Pocahontas. But yeah, nicely done.
Decided to watch Naruto and Naruto Shippuden because I never got a chance to when it was trending. Plan on tackling One Piece soon.

Finished a few shows lately...
Lost: Ended the rewatch of Lost with a friend who loved the whole thing, and I have to say so did I. I remember people got pretty fussed at the ending of Lost and while I do agree that it was strongest in earlier seasons, I feel like the ending of Lost was way more satisfying than a lot of other shows that have aired since.
Kingdom: A Korean show set in around the 17th century (I think?) with zombies. It's had two seasons so far and I've really liked it.
Bloodhounds: Another Korean show, this time focusing on a couple of young boxers and some villainous loan sharks. Very enjoyable, the characters in particular were top drawer, I loved how well written and acted they all were.
Also watched Top Gun: Maverick last night and that was a great mix of nostalgia and modern fun. Original is still better, but I suppose that goes without saying.
Catch the Monday afternoon classic showing in the afternoon with an empty cinema to ourselves in 2040?
Recently finished the first season of Succession, which I knew nothing about going in other than Brian Cox being in it and that people were going mental about it because the final season had just finished. It was a very interesting show, they did a great job of putting it together so that you're permenantly on edge trying to figure out which person is going to make a move on another person the whole time. But all the characters are deeply unpleasant (except Greg).
Also, WWE has pulled me back in over the last couple of years with what is certainly their best ever storyline. It has been unironically fanastic television, the performances from all of the members in this particular storyline have been amazing and somehow, despite the companies terrible reputation for mishandling things, they've manged to maintain the quality of the storyline over three years while successfully weaving in other acts who have become organically popular during the run. It seems like we're finally heading into the end game arc of this story and I'm genuinely going to be sad when it's over.

Rewatching "Game of Thrones" from scratch. It's been long enough that I don't really care how bad the end was now. Though I'm hoping it'll be a little more appealing this watch as I'm not waiting weeks and years for the next episode/season and can just watch it at my own pace.
Also me and my girlfriend are watching through the original 1958-60 run of "The Twilight Zone" which has been simultaneously great and bizarre. Obviously that's the intent and I'm living for it ;)

Link Click is so good
Decided to watch Naruto and Naruto Shippuden because I never got a chance to when it was trending.
Just finished this myself, I'd seen the original and half of Shippuden about 10 years ago but stopped watching it when I finished reading the manga. Got randomly hit with nostalgia after randomly seeing clips on youtube and decided to rewatch it recently and, man. It's just such a waste. It's a fantastic 300 episode series that got filler-fucked to 700. I can't think of another series that would benefit more from a DBZ Kai style remaster that just cuts out all the bullshit. The last stretch of the series was so bad it would have been hilarious, if it wasn't so disrespectful of your time. Literally frame for frame repeating 13 minutes of the same recap 7 times across about twenty 20 minute episodes.
Still, when it's good it's great.

I don't watch much actual TV anymore, but I've been putting on Tacoma FD in the morning while I wake up. It's definitely a Broken Lizard-inspired piece of media.
Super Troopers watered down for broadcast television, but it's harmless enough. Sometimes it's nice to see a show that maybe isn't amazing, but it seems like the people making it all had fun. This show seems like that. I think the people enjoy what they do.

While on holiday:
Bullet Train - 7/10
The Fabelmans - 7/10
Reptile - 6/10
Bobcat Moretti - 6/10
The Taking of Pelham 123 - 6/10
Game Night - 7/10
The Menu -= 7/10
The Night Manager (miniseries) - 8/10
Dune: Part Two - 7/10
To Kill a Mockingbird - 7/10
Paris is in Harlem - 6/10
Billion Dollar Heist - 7/10
Blade Runner 2049 - 7/10
The Equalizer 3 - 7/10
Also rewatched Joker (still an 8/10) and Dune (part one) which is still a 7/10.
Blade Runner 2049 and Dune films have reaffirmed my belief that Villeneuve can make some goddam beautiful shots but is sorely lacking on the little things. These films just really lack detail and emotion for me.
Paris is in Harlem might have been a 7/10 if I liked hearing jazz music for two hours straight. I like jazz music, but not non-stop for two hours.
Some of these 7s might be a little unlucky not to be 8s, but you gotta really grab me for an 8. Get me invested.

The official Mythbusters YouTube channel have been uploading full episodes, so I have been having fun rewatching old episodes I haven't seen in quite some time. Plus, some stuff they use around their shop is similar to stuff I see at my work, so carrying more knowledge about random stuff they use is pretty interesting now.
the second of Albert Pyun's "hood trilogy", Corrupt.

I've been on a K-Drama binge once more
Stranger: 9/10 - Amazing crime/law drama/thriller.
My Mister: 9/10 - Amazing family/office drama.
Hometown Cha Cha Cha: 8/10 - Solid romcom.
Currently just finished Stranger and have started watching a few new shows, trying to find one that grabs me. Vincenzo (two eps in), Search WWW (two eps in) and The Penthouse: War in Life (one ep in). I'm thinking Search WWW will win but so far none of them quite match the immediate and consistent hold that Stranger and My Mister had on me (although I will say the first half of Stranger season 2 was a bit slow and at times boring, the second half thankfully justified it).
