Actually I think you do have to pay. Check their website, i'm not sure.

It is free, yes. As far as I know. It's paid for by the ad banners.

The topic is "about vbulletin", so are you referring to the actual board software itself? If so, then yes, technically you have to pay to use a copy, such as EoFF does. :) I think it's something like pay a little to 'rent' the software for a year, or pay a lot more to buy a copy to keep for as long as you want, but I'm not too sure on that :p

What I mean is if you want to make a forum and you choose vBulletin to be the host, will you have to pay for it in oreder to run a forum!?

vBulletin is a forum software. There's no hosting about it. You have to find a separate host. That can be free or paid.

The actual vBulletin software costs (and quite a bit). I believe $85 for a year license, or $195 for a lifetime license. I'm not sure about those though, but they're in the right ball park.

EDIT: Ok, I'm going to clarify some things. The hosting is up to you. You can use a free host or a paid host, as long as it supports it.

The actual full vBulletin software, on the other hand, to obtain a legal copy, always costs those prices I listed above. I'm ignoring vBulletin Lite, because it's more or less just for you to test if the full version will work or not.

Oh. so the one being used by EoFF are software and paid every year? SO what are some advantages of Paid and the free vbulletin!?

Being able to start a forum this huge and great and maybe being able to start your own that may some day be like this one, one of the greatest forums of all time, IMO.
