My computer has a DVD player, and a while ago I could watch movies on it with no problem. However, recently, I put a movie in for the first time in a while, and 9 times out of 10 it wouldn't play, and the 10th time, it barely plays, skips, and crashes. I know it's not the disc since it is brand new. Can anyone give help please?

Do you have Windows XP?

No, I'm running Win 98... I noticed that if I decreased the DVD-ROM cache through device manager it helped a small amount, but not much.

Well, I had a similar problem. If you have windows 98, and your DVD software is WINDVD, that's your problem. My old computer's dvd player eventually degraded to the point of not even recognizing CD's. I have WINDVD on my new computer, and windows XP. It hasn't crashed yet.

I just played around with the options in my system properties, and got it to work. Here's to dumb luck!
