Hey, have guys ever considered putting glow, scroll, and up/down options in sigs? (e.g. Shinra Online)

<FONT COLOR=38E897>Glow options were actually outlawed a long time ago because they slow certain computers way down. I don't know about scroll and up/down sig options, but you can probably do that with HTML code anyway. But frankly, I don't see the use in making sigs into virtual web pages. If you want tons of text for people to read, you can just put your text somewhere on the web and link to it from your sig.

<table><tr><td bgcolor=#204962><font size=5 color=38E897>OOC:</font></td><td><font color=38E897 size=2>Oh, yep. And for anyone wondering how I made the marvel that is my current signature:

Anyway, I don't know exactly how scrolling text would be implemented. I think a user could implement by his/herself, but I believe that requires JavaScript, and I don't think that's allowed in signatures, so I'm not sure that it could be done. If the staff thinks that scrolling text would be allowed, they can speak up against my guess, but I'd guess that since you're not allowed to have moving text in sigs, scrolling text probably wouldn't be allowed either. That's just a guess though.

If they ever allow glow or flash sigs again well my 56K won't be very happy. And your sig aint helping Manny. Look at all those colors.;) I delete all temporary internet files every couple of days, so I have to reload sigs everytime I do.

Killy

You can disable sig if you want

Nah, most of the sigs are too good not to see them, even Manny's over there. I just love rabites. I can live with it.

The option not to display sigs at all is the only thing that keeps me sane, I swear to God.

I will admit that this option can be very usefull, but you are missing a few good thing Unne

Yes, I see a lot of good things in .sigs, and if I ever find someone interesting enough, I'll follow a link in their .sig for more info...it's terribly useful...until you get (expletive deleted)s who want to have a whole freakin' animated art gallery with annoying freakin' flashing lights and the Spider-Man themesong being sung in German by Gilbert Gottfried and Fran Drescher...

But really, how d'ya do the filter: blur thingy?

crono_logical

*wonders how much of those filters he had to tell The Man about* :p

The up-down thing is also a marquee, so again not allowed.

I still don't understand what people mean by "glow".
<table cellpadding=20 style="filter: glow(color='#330066',strength=7);"><tr><td>Do they mean like this (using stylesheet markup, like mine and The Man's sigs)? Because I see nothing wrong with this sort of glowtext, doesn't affect download times or CPU power to display, on it's own anyway, and the glow isn't set to be over the top :)</td></tr></table>
<table cellpadding=60 style="filter: glow(color='#ff0000',strength=50);"><tr><td>This, however, <B>is</B> over the top stylesheet glow effects and I wouldn't like to see this sort of text all over the place :\</td></tr></table>

The only over "glow" thing I can think about is blinking/flashing text in older browsers - I wouldn't like to see that around either.

My scroll up/down, I think he meant drop-down menu's...

I did once try to get a little javascript text window that changed itself every few seconds in my sig but a) I couldn't get the code to work (Javascript is the work of the devil!) and b) I seem to remember being told that Javascript isn't allowed in sigs here...

Citizen Bleys

know why?

&lt;script language="javascript"&gt;

document.location("http://www.pornsite.com/");

&lt;/script&gt;

There will be no Javascript on the forums.

Actually, your sig is over the limit. Please adjust, or Wyll will get angry.

I really enjoyed viewing sigs and following links etc, but I finally turned sigs off just so that pages would load at a decent rate and certain JS sigs (no finger pointing) crash my POS computer.

I wasn't aware that my sig was over the limit in any case.

And bennator: JavaScript signatures aren't allowed. If someone actually uses one, you should talk to them about it, I guess.

You're using JavaScript to alter the hover colors of your links, in case you hadn't realised. :)

<FONT COLOR=38e897>Weird; I thought that was entirely HTML-based, but at any rate, it's a very small amount of JavaScript and there's only one of those in my sig though. I don't think it should mess people's machines up that much. If it bothers people I guess I can change it, though it's very me-ish. *shrug*

If you have javascript in your sig, remove it. That goes for anyone.

As you said...

And bennator: JavaScript signatures aren't allowed. If someone actually uses one, you should talk to them about it, I guess.

*nods* bennator's obviously bothered you. Don't tell someone not to do something and then say that your stuff shouldn't be changed unless it bothers people. If it's the rules, it's the rules. >=/

EDIT: *is on a anti-bad-sig rampage, please, everyone, watch out before you too get a *bing* PM*

I don't really appreciate your consistent slightly disguised condescending attitude towards me about everything I do on these fora, either, BoBBo.

I'm not trying to be an arse, but that green is me. It's not like I have JavaScript to open a freaking pop-up window to a porn site or anything, which I believe is what got JavaScript outlawed from signatures. If no users are actually complaining about my sig's tiny amount of JavaScript that only activates when they run their mouse over a link in my sig, I don't see why I should be forced to remove it. And I find it strange that it's always you who's asking me to make the changes, also.

Just thought I'd mention I'm aware my sig is over 50k but it's only by an ickle bit I believe... the main pic is 48k and the ciddie pic is 1465b + the text... actually, it might be under, but please no nagging... it's only an ickle bit!

crono_logical

Actually I'd noticed yours, Spatvark, but since the Ciddies images are all over the place anyway, they don't or at least shouldn't count towards the sig limit (filesizewise, anyway), since only one has to load for all users using that image on the whole page, regardless of how often it's used. :) So yeah, the Ciddies trophies shouldn't really count towards the sig file size limit :D (assuming everyone is using the same link, which they should be anyway :p )

The only reason I was pointing out such things is because you openly said that one thing was a rule and then you said that it shouldn't matter for you. But hey, good luck with fixing it, and I'm not going to do anything about it. *nods* You're not being singled out, you just brought my attention with that post. *points to the PM button from now*

<font color=38e897>*shrug* If I can find a way to achieve the same effect without JavaScript, then I'll change it. I wasn't even aware that I was using JavaScript to create that effect, and frankly, for something that only causes your text to highlight ever-so-slightly when you run your mouse over it, I don't think we could be causing much harm. *shrug*

Woteva. I'm going to just stop posting in this thread, as there's no point to it.

Just thought I'd point out that my sig has now been approved. The problem is if we allow one person to use a small bit of Javascript, it's unfair not to allow others - and it's far safer and better to disallow javascript completely since allowing even the simple small bit of script you used can easily be abused (well, for those who know how anyway) to mess things up elsewhere at the board.
