First you should check if you can upload files through the internet, without needing to get a seperate FTP program. By this I mean like how you upload files at Geocities, or upload attachments here.

If you can't, your ISP should have given you FTP info, like the server to connect to, username, password, etc. In that case, you'll need to buy or download a decent FTP program (CuteFTP is good). Then once you've put in the info and connected to the server, you'll be able to upload your files. Find the directory you want to upload the files to, and then find the directory where those files are located. (There should be two different window-type areas in the FTP program. One will show the contents of your HD, and the other will show what's in your webspace.) Just drag the files from your computer to your webspace to upload them. You can also drag files from your webspace to your computer to download them.

I hope that was helpful. =)

Take a looksee.

EDIT:

2. FTP Uploads

If you do not use Microsoft FrontPage, you need to upload to
the PWP platform using an FTP program. There are many programs
out there, and you can download one from the blueyonder Tucows
mirror:

http://tucows.blueyonder.co.uk

The most common programs used by our customers appear to be Cute
FTP and WS_FTP.

To upload to PWP, you need to put the following settings in
your FTP program:

Hostname: ftp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk
Username: yourwebsitealias [which is the part of your address
between the www. and the ".pwp"]
Password: Your PWP password, as chosen in Self Care

If you are experiencing problems with FTP uploads, please report
full error messages along with the usual diagnostics to the
support team. If you can include a traceroute to the FTP
server [see the posting to support FAQ for how to do one of
these], it will aid diagnosis of any issues.

We noticed when we first launched the platform that the process
of logging you was a little delayed. We have tuned our FTP
servers since, and believe this is resolved. As one user in
our newsgroups told us:

"It's flying now. Well done."

If you are still experiencing problems, please let us know.

Try taking out the http:// from the host address you've entered.

Didn't change a thing =/

EDIT: *deletes stuff* Never mind, didn't work.

EDIT: Okay, I'm using that FTP Explorer now.

Try putting ftp:// in front of the server name. Web addresses are made like this: protocol://server address/directory.
If that doesn't work, add /(your domain name) to the end.

Are you sure you typed in your username and password correctly? It looks like it's connecting to the server OK, but rejecting your login / password.

you should use cuteftp. it is the greatest ftp program ever made. and its EXTREMELY easy.

Yeah, Unne, I am. I've had two different passwords on my account, and I've tried them both with every change I've made. =(

The problem is fairly clearly the login/password combination. Case sensitivity is one possibility.

Can you log in at http://selfcare.blueyonder.co.uk/ ?

And did you ever specify an "initial path?"

Loony BoB
09-08-2002, 11:16 PM
Well, I copy pasted the login and password from the same text file, just to be sure.

I could login to selfcare.
I couldn't get FTP working.

So, what's this initial path? That must be the problem.

Maybe it's your user name, loonybob?
I'm not really good with ftp, the only thing I use for it is Windows Explorer. :whoa:
