Does anyone have any suggestions? Preferably, I would like a free one, but I doubt those exist. If anybody does modeling, I'd appreciate your feedback on what you use.

Caligari Truespace is the low-end program. It's pretty good, except it is limited. I have 3d-Studio Max which is high-end($1600) program. Of course I didn't buy it *cough*KaZaA*cough*:D Try that one it's the best all. The pros use it.

I have 3d Studio Max, my friend gave it to me. I never really learnt how to use it but if you can it's quite impressive, if you've played Warcraft 3, the introduction with the crow and the sunlight was done in 3d studio max. It's really awesome looking.

There's another program called Lightwave which is sort of similar to 3d Studio Max I've heard but never tried it.

Lightwave is also a nice program that I've downloaded from KaZaA. It's also high-end.

I also recommend you get Bryce since that program is used to create 3d backrounds. It works well with Lightwave or 3d Studio Max.:)

If you are looking for a totally free 3d program, try povray.

I had pov-ray ages ago but couldn't figure out how to use it.. apparently it's by writing a lot of maths calculations?

Povray has been upgraded a bit. I haven't used it but some of my friends have.

Also, check out www.eovia.com . They have a prog called Carrara that is affordable and is a quite enhanced non-professional 3d program. Unlike povray, I have used Carrara and its good and doesn't involve mathematical formulae and such.

I know that some Hollywood firms use a program called Maya for Linux, but most Linux programs have a 'doze port.

My friend told me about this one. He said it's good and free, but I haven't downloaded it yet.
