Thats a decent PC, but you'll have to get a new board if you want a Pentium 4. a 1ghz P3 will be enough for the game but hey an extra fast chip wouldn't hurt.

P3 600 mhz - get 1 ghz if your mobo supports it, if not higher
128mb sd RAM - try getting at least 256 sd ram
32mb nVidiaRiva TnT2 Pro - a bit outdated, sugggest you get a geforce 4
20 gigs - make sure you have 5 gigs left!
Creative Sound Blaster live Audigy - amazing
Cambridge Soundworks - amazing
56k (I'm getting Adsl in 2 or 3 more months)
me - 56k is ok but expect to play smoother on adsl

Why a GeForce 4 TI when you can get a GeForce FX 5200 or better? i got a GeForce FX 5200 and it kicks ass.

Actually, I was just helping a friend build a computer and we were checking the specs and benchmarks on tomshardware.com and it seems that the GF4 Ti4800 beats some of the FX series in certain respects. And the 5200FX is fine, but what is really good are the FX ultra cards. :D

Moshenokoji

Mine says Ultra on the box :) . sure the TI beats FX in certain aspects but with an FX you got that CG graphics processor which is really really fast and its over clockable. my cousin had problems with the TIs making to much heat and his PC woudl always reboot. with an FX i don't have that problem. But if you want a GeForce 4 Ti then thats what you want and i respect it :) and good luck.

heh, my specs are:
ASUS P4S533-MX motherboard
pentium 4 1.9ghz processor
128mb ram (i think)
on board video (SiS 651 chipset)
on board sound (ADI ADI1980 6-channel CODEC)

id like to upgrade my video to a Geforce 4 ti4200 8x AGP 128mb but i need to convince my dad that its is considerably better than what i have at the moment.
ill put it this way, i have GTA3 running at the lowest resoulution and it lags a lot. (does anyone know where i can find proof besides the obvious that it is a good upgrade?)

will i need a sound card to play FFXI or will it accept what i have? anyone know

i live in Australia and im thinking of importing the Japanese version and at the moment my comp isn't really ready for it:(

Just wait a few months and import the American version, it won't be too long till it's out, and it'd give you more time to upgrade your computer. That and it'd be in English. xD

That's what I'm going to do.

Upgrading to an Athlon 2600+ with 512 megs of PC 4000 ddr with the new gigabyte 7nnxp board as for video cards either 5600 ultra or a 5900 ultra depending on what comes out when doom 3 is released.

side note the 5200 is alright but doesnt truly take advantage of dx 9
check out tomshardware or www.anandtech.com for their doom 3 benchmarks that compares 8 GPU's.
