take the FFXI benchmark test today and find out if your PC can handle it!

http://www.playonline.com/Download/FFXiBench.zip

heres a list of score descriptions, it's in japanese but i imagine anything over 2000 is good. i think you need windows xp for this to work.

According to me & my friend experiences. You gotta have 5000 points to run 1024x768 smoothly. 3000 - 4000 points to run 800x600 smoothly.

<points to his system specs and his score...

Looks as though your experiences are a bit off. That would mean technology hasnt been invented that can handle this game without framerate loss. I'm only a few off from having the fastest processer. And i'll soon have the best 3-d card. But neither of those offer that much more power.

I'm sure i'll be able to play at 1280x1024 with all the graphics turned up without any performance loss.

Unless ofcoarse this turns out to be like Asherons Call 2. Then were dealing with developers that havent learned how to code games properly yet. So even the fastest machines experience performance loss.

But this is Square were talking about. Naw it'l be fine i'm sure.

We used many hardware to test the game speed under 1024x768.

The speed of 1024x768(high detail) is okay if you have a P4-2.4G, 512DDR, GeF4Ti 4200 64M.

Sadly, the game option only up to 1024x768. No 1280x1024! damn..

I can't even start the program. It's giving me some error 2000, with something about Direct3D in the message. I know my system supports D3D, so I'm not sure what the problem is. At the end of the message, there's a (-1). Anyone else have this problem?

Sigh, guess no FFXI for me on PC.

What's your system specs?

OS
RAM
VIDEO CARD
CPU

With the error you're getting, it sounds like it could be your video card or your video card drivers.

Here's my specs:

OS: Windows XP
CPU: Intel PIII-M
RAM: 384MB
Video: ATI Radeon Mobility M6 (LY)
Video RAM: 32MB

I can't tell you what the error is. It's telling it to me in Japanese, but my system doesn't show Windows messages in Japanese. Here's a screenshot of of the error. Hopefully someone recognizes it. (BTW, it's not a Mac, just an XP skin.)

inferno10, I got the same error box. I thought I'd try this program out on this 366 Celeron computer just to see how shitty it really is. But, it's pretty bad when the test program doesn't even work on here...

I guess I'm stuck with gettin' it on the PS2 (If they put it on the PS2 in the first place), unless I get a new computer sometime soon.

T0KE
04-16-2003, 06:11 AM
Inferno10, I'd say it's your video card. Could be just bad drivers for your video card, but heck ATI has shitty drives. Try to up-date your drivers then try the benchmark. If you still get the error, then I would just buy a new graphics card. If you do up-grade go with Nvidia, their support and prices are awesome. :)

haha as for square optimizing the game for nvidia cards, that's pretty much just something nvidia's paying square to say. if you look at bench mark scores radeons's work better. they named the radeon 9700 pro the official beta card for ffxi. but if you get a card that's over kill like the fx 5900 pro or the radeon 9800 pro you're set lol. but i don't know who wants to spend $500 on a graphics card.

Ok you were almost right, I got a 5000. I don't see how you can get much better than that though. My computer is at 2.5 ghz on processor, graphics card is a 128 9700 pro, and i got a whole gig of ram. I see if you were to get a 256 card, maybe even a widely supported one for the game (nvidia), and maybe even double the memory, and at most go ahead and get a multithreading 3.1 p4, but hardly anyone has got that right yet and i've still seen better scores on here. Some guy said he got like 11000. Is there some ways to change the test options like anti-aliasing and stuff.

Another question is "Is that demo running on the graphics turned all the way up?" don't get me wrong, it looks very nice, but is that what the actual game will play like with the lagg from online play, plus the other people i will be playing with, plus the grahpics turned up high. I noticed that my system did for some reason lagg a little when i got about thirteen of the characters on my screen, so whats gonna happen later on when i have to venture out with about twenty other people in order to kill a boss. I guess I am going to go try to get my drivers updated. Its such a hassle to do seeing as how i gotta dl them on AOL in other room then transfer to mine computer. Man this is a pain. I just wish that ATI was more supported. They are a step ahead of nvidia all the time so i dont see why they wouldnt be supported. another thing is if i wanted to go get a nvidia card, are there any 256 ones out that far surpass a 128 9700 pro. Something that at least doubles it in power?

Nakor TheBlue Rider
08-27-2003, 10:11 AM
I don't expect to beat that...

actually I expect I'll get 3,500-4,500

Because your comp is better than mine....

But the Sweetness....was that my old comp can't eve run the test....

Edit: OMG!!My first Score Was 5073 and my second was 5065 So my computer is gonna run it better than I thought and It ran Smoothly through the Whole thing

:whoa: SECRET:whoa:

My friend has hacked the first benchmark for the game. If you notice, this is like version 1.5 or something, but if you look at the other pictures with 10k+ they have the old version. I'm not sure if they put out the new version because you can hack into the old one and change the variables that determine your score or what. I know that if my processer speed is 500 mhz slower than the fastest, my graphics card is third best (right behind both the new ati and nvida 256's), and I have a gig of ram compared to someone who could have two, there isn't a possible way you could score that high.

Rostum
09-03-2003, 08:05 AM
I don't see the point of hacking it though, seeing as it's not going to change the way it'll turn out in the retailed game.

Sorry, not much you can do about it, maybe you could upgrade the RAM, but it all depends. It isn't a wise choice t play games, expecially MMORPG's, on notebooks, they just aren't suited for it. And yes that's a low score, but I'd probably get 500 on the laptop I'm using, I can barely run N64 roms! ~_^

Crono9051
09-23-2003, 03:00 AM

FiragO
10-01-2003, 03:57 PM
yes, you should definetly get a new video card, if you think that this FFXI is the only game you are going to play with for a whille, then i would go with a radeon 9700 pro 128 mb, they are lots cheaper than the 9800, and the 9800 128 scores a few FPS higher than the 9700 pro. It is going to be quite a while until you are going to need the raw power of the 9800 Pro 256, but if you wanna go the eventually cheap route, buy the 9800 pro 256 now, it'll be bout 200 dollars more than a 9700 pro, but if u buy 9700 then you will have to wait for the 9800 pro to get down to 200 dollars if you don't wanna spend more money then it would have initially took to get the 9800 256. So the best option to do is get yourself a 9800 pro 256, and jolt your ram up to a gig whenever. The 9800 pro should boost your performance quite a bit. Oh, and Crono9051, you are just the person i was looking for. Can you please tell me how to get a n64 emulator, and games. Do you know of a PS2 emulator that works, i dun care bout games for that, i'll go rent them.

Hey FiragO I don't know where to get emulators so I asked around."But I do know that Project64 and Nemu64 are the best emulators for N64 on the net, and they're real easy to find, just search in google.com." from Mojo Pin. He also say's that as for the roms you should search in programs like Kazaa Lite. Hopefully this will help you. Oh and thanks Mojo.

FiragO
10-03-2003, 06:02 PM
thx very much crono, i will be looking out for those. I wish i could find a decent ps2 emulator though. That would be awesome. Loui, you should probably update your video card. It may be a 128 mb card, but that just mostly deals with colors and certain other aspects of the game. When your looking at the amount of memory a card comes with it just means that the higher it is then the more crisp and nice looking the game will look. So a 256 would look very nice and the higher you get with memory, the less work the rest of your system has to do towards graphics. Yes, the 9700 pro would be able to play games just as well as the 9800 pro, but eventually you will need a new card anyways, so might as well get the best so you can enjoy new games right away and as soon as they hit market.

Hey, Mojo Pin here. I think the minimun score needed to play on high res would be around 6000. I'm just guessing though, luckily for me I'm getting the Radeon 9800 XT, which is comming out next month; it's an upgrade from the 9800 256mb Pro.

Are you sure it's 6000 and not 600? 1000 is the requirement for low res and my highest score for high resolution was 903.

Yeah, as I said I wasn't sure. I think on low res it's 2000, but if you want high res to play smoothly then you'll need a higher score.

Am i mistaken or no? I read a reply some where up there says he got a score of 10,000+ on his machine...

I only got a 2600 (HIGH-RES) on mine with the spec of:

P4 2.8ghz
1g DDR RAM
80g IBM HD 7200
Asus GeForce4 Ti4800 SE (better than FX5600 by X times)

now, back to that 10,000+ score.. BS?!

According to the US Playonline/FFXI site, anything under 1200 means your computer can't handle it. Or was it 1300?

Anyways, if you're over 1400, you'll be able to run the game.

^_^

I scored a 1478 I think.

Black Mage
10-22-2003, 01:15 AM
Hm, well, the error still continues, and it happens on all three of the computers available to me.

The video card I use isn't that old, less than a year old. It's not the most up to date, but it isn't terrible, either. It's a 64MB Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller.

I believe that should be fine to run it, no?

It also seems that my card cannot support T&L, much like that used in Star Wars Galaxies. I'm to understand that this gives an error with Direct 3D.

However, my card is compatible with Direct X, and so, can someone tell me if the Graphics Card is in control of T&L, or is it the Processor, in FFXI?

Also, if someone could tell me, if the Bench will not run on my computer, does that, for a fact, mean FFXI won't?

1024 x 768 resolution, I got 2086. I'm too lazy right now to run it through again, but I had Winamp, IRC, AIM, Y!M and EoFF all running in the background. Oh, and my LJ client and my TV Program. I'll check it out with all that stuff turned off (or at least most of it, seeing as I'll probably have some on during the game anyway) later on.

My system? Uh... *checks*

XP Home
AMD Athlon 1800 (1.53GHz)
256MB DDR RAM
GeForce2 with 32MB

Unfortunately, it means you're, more likely than not, not going to be able to run the game.

Maybe you should invest in a new Graphics card. I'd suggest Best Buy, or a local shop, for such things.

Good luck.

I'm actually going to build it through IBM. My dad did this HUGE company deal with IBM, so he's going to get a custom built computer with a huge discount off for me. I think I built one on Dell, just to see how much it'd be and it's around 4000 AUD where I can get it for 2000 AUD. xD

Moshenokoji
11-08-2003, 12:58 AM
Its considerlaby cheaper to build from scratch. Its really not that hard as long as you can count pins :D lol. As long as you know what your doing a home built machine can be fairly lethal. But since its from scratch you have some more risks you can't just call Dell and be like "hey my PC blew up fix it". Recently the board i had shorted out and i dunno why but it drew too much current through the power supply on the red leads. The new board bought had a bad bios on it and i sent it back and i'm still waiting on the replacement. It kinda pisses me off cause FFXI is sitting in my desk and i can't play it. I'd use this computer but its my dad and i dunno if a Radeon 7000 will even work with the game anyway. Hes already pissed that i'm using his.

Rostum
11-09-2003, 07:18 AM
That Radeon would defenatly work with FFXI. As long as it's above 64mb one, which I'm positive it would be.

And that's what I meant about building a computer from scratch; unless you know what you're doing you can screw it up real bad. xD

Moshenokoji
11-09-2003, 06:42 PM
Its a 64mb card. Windows has driver issues with it for some reason every time i try and use a ATI driver i get from their site it always screws up so it has to use the default Windows drivers so that could cause a problem and i just don't want to have to put up with the " I told you so" from the old man of the house. The new board i bought should be coming in fairly soon like tue, wed, or thursday at the latest so i should be playing by Friday night. I'm really afraid of the patch download, i got 56K :( so this is gonna suck.....

QUESTION???

I have Windows 98SE, will this bench work with it? I keep getting that Direct 3D error and I was wondering if I can update my drivers for an Intel 810e Chipset (I think that is what it is called; it's the name of the driver anyway) and have it work? Does anyone have the same graphics card as I do and got the bench to work?

Moshenokoji
12-02-2003, 10:07 PM
Dude the game isn't gonna work with an Intel 810E those things are horrible i had one on a Hewlett Packard. the 810E in my HP had like 12mbs of video on it. that GPU is bad. If you have a AGP slot go buy a decent GeForce or Radeon vide card cause an i810E won't work.

This is my system ( I'm 13 so I don't have money to spend on upgrading. Funny thing is, I've upgraded my computer with my OWN MONEY:D )

Windows ME:(
GeForce 4 AGP 8X MX 440 ( Power by Gainword )
With 64 video MB
256 SDRam
850 MHz ADM Duron
Altec Lansing Speakers

Thats about all I know about my computer.
One question...
How do you set the Bench to "Lower Resolutions"
Cause' you guys were talking about getting a score on high res, and on low res...
Thanks

12-06-2003, 03:03 AM
Ohh yah! Also my computer is a Compaq Presario 5000.
I don't know if that will be of any importance...
Again my computer stuff is:

GeForce4 MX 440
256 SD-RAM
850 MHz ADM Duron Processor
56k Modem :riiight:
( I dunno what this is but )
10/100 Mb PCI NIC
SAMTRON 17'inch Monitor
ALTEC Lansing Speakers
YAMAHA PCI Audio YMF724 Sound card

So do you think I might be-able to run it, my score was 1590, and please tell me how to put it in Hi-Res and Low-res... Cause' when I got my score if it was in Hi or Low resolutions.

Moshenokoji
12-06-2003, 04:05 PM
the 10/100mb PCI NIC is a network card so you can use high speed internet like DSL, and Cable. You might be able to run the game you have enough memory and the video card will work. for the low res and high res stuff i don't know much about cause i run a GeForce FX5200 Ultra and it works great with it. so i have my graphics maxed out and it doesn't slow down with lag or anything. now your processor is well fast enough according to the box. if you wanna spend a tiny bit of cash you could get AMD Duron at 1.0 ghz or something and that would help the game run better or an extra stick of 256mb SD Ram PC133 would also help. I never did do the score thing cause i didn't have to. It might work but what you should probably do is after you install the game under Start -> programs -> PlayOnline -> Final Fantasy XI config is a bunch of graphical options, you might want to set them all to low. and the 56K is gonna suck at downloading the patch. It took me 2 nights of leaving my PC on. but it MIGHT work.

Ouch!
12-06-2003, 04:17 PM
I'm running the game fine with a score of 2996.

Moshenokoji
12-07-2003, 02:56 PM
Actually the AMD Duron is a socket A processor just like the Athlon and Athlon XP models. So, you could get like a 1.2 ghz Athlon or Athlon XP and that would be better than a Duron cause you'd have more FSB.

its probably the NVidia Riva video card. I don't know for sure but the box says and i quote from the all mighty bottom of the box on this "NVidia GeForce series graphics processing unit with 32 MB or ATI Radeon 9000 graphics card (AGP)". that could be it right there. a Radeon 9600 will work perfectly.
Though I think you should get a Radeon 9600 XT :) . I'd get that i mean it was on the Tech TV top 20 gifts.

Thats jacked. If you bought the game then you should be able to play it. explain to your mom that you bought it and you should get to play it. You get a free month so she should let you have that atleast. You do have to give them credit card information. Another thing is when i sighned up for my FFXI content ID they told me it was only going to be like $4.35, which is strange cause it should be 12.95. If you're going to pay to play with your own cash she should let you play. And its not fair that you bought a game you can't use. You should have told your mom that it required a credit card ahead of time, so she could decide if she would "let" you play or not.

Rostum
12-17-2003, 01:58 AM
Yeah you probably should have told your mum in the first place that it required a credit card, if you're still having troubels just explain to her that you get a free month and then tell her that you will pay for the next month or something. It'll be alright.
