I'm talking about http://www.eyesonff.com/forums/images/on.gif and http://www.eyesonff.com/forums/images/off.gif, I'm just wondering if there's any possible way these could be something different? They don't symbolise EoFF in any way, all they symbolise is vbulletin. I'm not saying make them some cheesy FF6 sprite like most forums on FF I see, but something different to the default vb logos would be nice :p

What about an opened and closed eye? Or is that too creepy?

I remember back when EoFF was relatively new, we were using grey and black chocobos. Grey chocobos would represent new posts, and the black would represent no new posts.

The chocobos ruled. But I think we didn't use them because they're way too big. Maybe someone can come up with somethign the size of that little box.

Well, if you want to keep the blue color scheme, you could always use a variation of the blue save point (http://lhjx.tripod.com/savepointico.gif). I've seen this at other sites though, so I don't know if you guys wanna rip the idea.

Then I've got a blue (http://lhjx.tripod.com/kainblue.gif) Kain and a gray (http://lhjx.tripod.com/kaingray.gif) Kain, both 16x16 like the vB default icons.

I think the point was that they're too big for the vBB, Prot. Needs to be 16x16 or something.

How's about something we can actually reailse what it is? >_*

Del's idea is the best I've seen so far, although chocobo's are okay. I guess. They're kinda hard to get when it comes to size and actually being able to make them out, though.

EDIT: Okay, pr00t made them 32x32 again. His 16x16 ones were impossible. But yeah.

Agent Proto
12-18-2002, 10:04 PM
it's only 32x32, about twice the size as the default buttons. *sigh*

Oh well. I tried...

Oh yeah. EoFF with chocobos. (http://protodude.homestead.com/files/eoffnew.gif)

The opened and closed eyes sound pretty... unique, but creepy.

If you guys find any icons, be sure to try them out or something for a few minutes to see if they look okay, rather than just kind of looking at them in the browser window... or, whatever, you know what I mean?

I like that idea. I think we should do it :D

See the little checkmarks below every post? I'm pretty sure those have to be the same pictures that we use for the forum icons on the main page. That's the problem.

If we were going to use the chocobos again, we'd have to use the Locke ones too. Or the little Cids we used to have. I'm going to have to check and see if the icons below the posts can be set seperately from the forum icosn.

Agent Proto

I'm positively sure that it's possible to use text instead of images if someone is online or offline.

Dr Unne
12-19-2002, 02:36 AM
Looks like I can use a different image for the online/offline pictures, yeah. I don't really like those yellow chocobos though. Does anyone have the old Cid icon? I'd love to use that again. It's from the EZBoard. Or anything else? Or do you all like those yellow chocobos? We can give it a try and see how it looks I guess.

I liked Proto's screenshot of the forums with the chocobo icons on the main page :p (er, you'll ahve to ask him for the link, I forgot ^_^)

They're not too big on the main page when you see it, because the forum descriptions are multiline anyway so take up that much space by default.

It sounds like you've got it down okay, but if you still need help doing that, either contact me via AIM (I'm fairly sure you know my AIM address, Carpie :aimwink:) or PM me at Fool's Gold. I check in at EoFF about twice a month now so PMing me here is probably a bad way to get in touch with me if you want me to respond quickly.

I obviously don't have the old eZboard icons, since I wasn't around back then. ;)

Peace
Aaron

Sorry, I don't have the little Cids, they vanished with thw wheres.com site.

They were ace, though.

Hence, let's bring back the chocobos!

Dr Unne
12-19-2002, 06:29 PM
I already change the templates. Did last night right before I posted. I just need to know what pictures to use.

We never had golden chocobos here, did we? Only those black ones. One thing we did do once was have forums with new posts have black chocobos, and have forums with no new posts have no icon at all. That would be easy to do. I need more input though. If people like the yellow chocobos, we can use those. Or we can use the Locke's again like kishi said, though I don't really even remember that.

We'll try the chocobos.

Agent Proto

Nice to see the chocobos are in use. :choc:

Well, let's see how it does. Using both yellow and black chocobos will make it easier to notice which forum has new posts or not. Though, if you want me too, I can make white chocobos for the on and onlock templates. :)

Dr Unne

CloudDragon
12-19-2002, 07:50 PM
Hmm, maybe Proto could try making a test page with them, or anyone for that matter. I guess we'd have to see what they'd look like. I really don't care if you use blue or yellow though.

Dr Unne

The chocobo icons look pretty good, IMO. I like the yellow/black version, but the blue/black might look good as well. It's just that the yellow/black format provides better contrast.

Or a chocobo on fire?

Dr Unne
12-20-2002, 06:01 PM
BoB, I think the best I could do is have it so that they'd have that avatar until a certain number of posts. The only way I thought to do it is rather complicated too. Are we sure we want to single out the newbies like that anyways? We were always about making everyone feel equal and whatnot.

Loony BoB
12-20-2002, 06:19 PM
Funny, it worked under a timespan thing before... veterans have it, so yeah... ah well.

But yeah. I think that newbies not having some random restriction (as bad as that sounds, it's NOT) has lost something in my ever-so-humble opinion. It seems more... fun when it's like that. But maybe it's just me. I think I'll make a poll about it. I mean, we could just do it for a week. OMFG! *idea*

Yellow is too bright. Keep the blue.

Leeza
12-21-2002, 07:27 AM
Definitely the blue. So many yellow Chocobo's in a row just doesn't look like EoFF. It's also a shock to the eyes.

crono_logical
12-21-2002, 09:32 AM
I'd have preferred yellow myself, since the old New Post in forum icon was yellow :p Blue's ok though :p

Leeza
12-21-2002, 06:33 PM
The old New Post in forum icon was yellow, but it was a lot smaller than these Chocobos. The same yellow as the old icon would be nice, but because these Chocobos are so much bigger just makes the yellow seems way too bright.
