i dont know if anyone has asked this before... but how come in everyones profile(and i seriously mean everyones) its says that they have 0 posts. it would really be kewl to see how many posts some people have. im curious.

There've been problems with it before, where certain members(Not naming any names*) were having post competitions with eachother. It got out of hand, so the staff did away with post counts. We like to think EoFF was improved when the post counts disappeared. :)

I honestly don't think restoring post counts would do a bit of harm to the board now. 'Course, I'd just be able to sit on the top of the list and gloat (except that My-ken seems to have raised her post count to 10,000 or something ludicrous like that), so I doubt I'm exactly unbiased about this.

Judging from the contents of Advanced Search, it actually looks like the counts were never actually deleted. Unne's way down there, which he certainly shouldn't be, and we'll note that he reset his count to zero shortly before EVERYONE'S post counts got "reset to zero." I suppose, through a trial-and-error process, I'd be able to figure out exactly how many posts I'd have had, had post counts not been disabled, but I'd have to be BORED AS HELL to try that.

Post counts aren't really that important, anyway. I'd rather be proud of making good posts than of making lots of posts.

Edit: Maybe there's no invisible post counter after all, because the number of results I got by searching for my name was almost identical to the results I got by trial and error in the Advanced Search. Yet if everyone were listed as a zero-poster, the Advanced Search has to be working for SOMETHING, and I'm pretty sure I'd be at around 5,900 in-database posts or something if we hadn't had that pruning half a year ago or whenever it was.

Gah, I'm not really bored enough to continue this. *leaves*

My advanced search results from the memberlist shows my post count being 16 higher than "Find all posts by this member."

16 quality posts, I'm sure.

Listen to that Audio intro thing for more than entertainment, perhaps? :D

Post counts are gone, and they'll never be back. NEVER!

It's because we've all never posted, obviously.

Ahh, but you're forgetting the Delcartian principle my friend: We drink, therefore we spam!

What do we drink?

Knowing Spat, probably alcohol.

Mine was set to 65000 for a long time. I set it to 0 right before I quit.

If you bring post counts back I'll kill you all. I'm serious.*

*No I'm not.

Yes, you are.

I wasn't posting when post counts were removed, so I don't pretend to understand why the admins decided to do so.

However, if you bring post counts back, it's not like everyone will suddenly go on a rampage. I doubt it would make any significant difference at all, right now.

I remember when I was coming up on 2000 posts that I started posting much more often just to get there. It wasn't exactly spam but if this happens to me then imagine the effect on the Linuses of the board...

I've never spammed or even just posted to get up post counts, so I often have trouble understanding people that do.

Occasionally, I have posted an awful lot in one day, but not spam, and not purposely increasing my post count.

I like post counts because I like competition A LOT. I was in the war of posts for a while but even when we still had post counts I cooled down and just posted normally eventually but if you bring them back I promise a rampage of posts from me. I shall not hold back. PLLLLLLEEEEAAAASE DO IT!

Is it even possible to bring back post counts?

Citizen Bleys

It's possible. It's not happening, though.

But newbies like me will never-ever get to experience the true joys of spamism! Except for people like me who keep track of every ones post in a nifty little table that is only available on the black-spam market.

True spammers do it for spam itself.
