Not sure, although if Kishi saw this, he might add the 20 billion squaresoft games you missed to that poll :p

You missed Parasite Eve. And I can't decide between FFVIII, IX, ans X. Ya Know?

Id say Chrono Trigger, since I played that game over an over again for 2 years.

You did miss quite a few....

But you got all my favourites, so it doesn't bother me. Final Fantasy VII is the best, with a VERY close second from Xenogears, and a slightly further third in Chrono Trigger.

Before anyone complains about me missing certin Squaresoft games. Rember this you can only have 20 options to a poll, and that is all I could fit.

FF7 is the best game EVER. Surprising twists, amazing graphics (for it's time), and a great cast of characters. Not to mention the best villian(s) ever.

FFVI without a doubt. I played that game for three years all the time. I could pick that game up and play it for hours on end anywhere in the story.

FF6 is damn good, though my favourite SNES one is 4 hardtype. Gotta love the insane challenge of some of the bosses. And Mullet, your avatar is damn cool ;)

I'm gonna have to say the Chrono Trigger is by far the best game Square made. Period. Words can't describe how great it is. It really is a shame though that many of todays' gamers consider FFVII a "classic," or an "oldie." I remember when that game came out, and it's still one of the new games for me, which kinda dates me, I guess. But hey, I'm only 23!! LOL

Enigma

I say FFVII, great twists in the plot but basically because I've only beaten FF3, FF7, FF8, FF10, and Kingdom Hearts. And I'm on my way to beating FFT...not like anyone cares though lol.

Damn you Chrono Trigger. FF7 WAS SO CLOSE TO VICTORY!

FFVII the best squaresoft game of all time? Sure it gets points for being so mind-bogglingly beautiful when it first came out

WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT!!!!

Beyond that it's a good game, but not a great game, and certainly not the best squaresoft game of all time.

In any case, I chose not to vote, because while ffvi, vagrant story, and xenogears are some of my favorite games of all times, I don't think squaresoft was well represented by the poll. Especially considering the fact that FFVII, of all games, won. *sigh*

I choose FFVI. It is also my favorite game among all companies.

My favorite is Seiken Densetsu 3. Right now I'm playing Xenogears, which is probably tied for first. It's an absolutely wonderful game, but I can't see myself going back to it any time soon after I beat it. Most games don't give you too much incentive to start over, but since SD3 has several million (maybe billion?) permutations of characters and class changes, there's always something new.

'Bahamut Lagoon'

Second would be 'Parasite Eve'.

You could have at least given us the 'Other' option...

Xenogears. Even though it's an incomplete RPG, it's still better than any of Squaresoft's other efforts. What a joke.

Actually, uh, final fantasy 7 had only decent graphics for its time.

I voted number 6, I feel that the story was just incredible, being able to pull you in as the game went on. FF7 did the same thing, but it just didn't feel the same to me (but I still like it quite a bit.)

Xenogears. I loved the story, the plot, and the characters(Well maybe not Chu-Chu..). I really enjoyed playing the game(perhaps not the 2nd disc as much as the 1st). I've played the game over and over. I really love the music, and the battle system's great, too. A very close second was Final Fantasy 7, but I didn't like the characters or the story as much.

Xenogears definitely.

Even though it doesn't have the BEST CG like the other FF series after that. I still love the game because ithas the best concepts and characters! :)

Final Fantasy 9, but that's just me. I liked the characters (especially Vivi!), enjoyed the magic concept, and treasure hunting.

I haven't played too many RPGs since they usually take me forever to complete (right now I'm replaying Chrono Cross the right way--i.e., going on sidequests and trying to recruit as many characters as possible) and I've hit 30 hours of playing... while still on the first disc (I'm not Serge anymore, btw... for those of you who know what I mean). And going strong. ^^ I love doing sidequests.

But yea, right now I'm all for Chrono Cross. I'm enjoying way more this time aroud thent he first.

So, let's see here, from the poll, we're missing...

Vagrant Story
Secret of Evermore
Front Mission (3 of them, right?)
Threads of Fate
Brave Fencer Musashi
Chocobo's Dungeon
Chocobo Racer
Super Mario RPG
Parasite Eve (1 & 2)
Final Fantasy Legend (1-3)
SaGa Frontier
Unlimited SaGa
The Bouncer
Einhander
Ehrgeiz

Umm...pretty sure I missed some, but, eh, they've made too many games to make this into a viable poll.

I'd have to say my favorite FF is for a three-way tie between 7, Tactics, and 10; my favorite non-FF game from Squaresoft would probably be Vagrant Story, since it's one of the few non-FF Square games I've played thus far.

Best:
1) Chrono Trigger (Voted for)
2) FF6/3
3) FF7
4) FFIV
5) FFIX

Worst:
1) FF8 (Actually, the worst RPG ever)
2) FF11
3) FFX-2
4) FFX
5) Chrono Cross

Where's:
Super Mario RPG, FF Tactics Advance

Analogy:
Chrono Trigger is to FF8 as
Phantasy Star 2 is to Phantasy Star 3

Edgar

Followed closely is FFT and CC.

It's an abomination that there's an "FFMQ" option on this poll and there isn't an "Other" option.

Anyway, I'm voting for Seiken Densetsu (3), although Chrono Cross would have beat it if not for the atrocity that was its second disc. FF6 would be a close third, I suppose.

FFVII is my favorite. It just never dies. I started playing again, last week, after about 8 months of not playing it, and it felt like I was playing it for the first time. Xenogears is also an incredible game, but it slightly loses its luster after the first 10 hours.

DJZen

I'm tellin' you guys. 3D Worldrunner is where it's at! FF7 and Xenogears can't even come CLOSE in terms of concept, gameplay and sound. Sure the graphics are a little bit dated now but back in the day you didn't get graphics like that ANYWHERE. Oh, and as far as the plot goes, the story for 3D worldrunner BLOWS ALL OTHER GAMES RIGHT OUT OF THE WATER!

Except maybe Mystic Quest...
Maybe...

A tough decision between Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VII for me. I find them both really awesome games, and both Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Trigger are very close to them as well. Oh, and Final Fantasy VII >>>>>>> Final Fantasy VI, which is becoming my least favorite FF at the moment. I think FF7's story, characters, mood and especially battle system bring FF6 to dust.

Meh. It's all about character development with FFVI. That's what makes it so great. There are a WHOLE LOT of characters, yet you think that every single one of them is the main character. Pure Square goodness.

Eh, I don't agree on this point. I don't think that Relm or Strago could fairly be called main characters. You can even skip getting Mog and Shadow.

Kirobaito
03-10-2004, 11:49 PM
Well, not EVERY character, but the following characters in the game all had very important parts, and could all be considered the main character:

Terra
Celes
Edgar
Sabin
Locke

That's enough to say "Great Character Development," unlike FFVIII, where Irvine said three things in the whole game. Of course, that's a good thing, because I'd rather for him to shut his trap.

I would have to say Chrono Trigger, by far in my opinion. The combination moves were a great addition to it. The different combinations made combat not repetitive. Plus the different times made it much more vast. And the characters in it were great.

I'd have to pick Final Fantasy VI. Best game ever. Period. In my opinion, it had the greatest storyline, greatest characters, was non-linear, had lots of side quests, lots of mystery, the main villain actually succeeded in destroying the world, millions of things to do, great graphics/sound for it's time, and best of all it's 2-D! *has a thing for 2D games*

Coming in close would have to be the following:

Rudra No Hihou, Final Fantasy IV, and Final Fantasy I.

For me, it was a toss up between Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, but I ultimately voted for Chrono Trigger - it's the funnest RPG I've ever played, bar none. The FF series as a whole is a great one, but CT and Xenogears manage it to make it appear second-tier. If we were talking strictly the FF series, I would have definitely voted FF6. It's interesting to note that more than half the people I talk to who list FF7 as their favorite FF/RPG have never played any of the above mentioned games.
