*can't see adverts*

Please, for the love of God, tell me that we don't have porn advertisements again.

I've only seen the "Girls Gone Wild" one once, and it was just a picture of a lego man and a target to shoot him with. That's not too bad, but the video itself is.

Lego man? Now that's just gone way too far.

I only seem to get Pinecone Research. The ads are independent of EoFF though, aren't they?

I would take some drunk girls dropping their last scraps of dignity over that :skull::skull::skull::skull:ing idiot with the hat who says, "Hey, over here!"

Pop-up stopper... what a wonderful invention!

And for some reason my browser won't load the banner adverts on EoFF. Not that I'm complaining or anything...

There are Girls Gone Wild ads, yes. Flash ones, at that. EoFF doesn't control the ad banners, that's all up to the host.

I'd take ANYTHING but that guy.

Amen. When are those advertisers going to realise that they're LOSING customers by sucking so much?

Oh, yeah. Here's an way to get rid of banner ads in EoFF for yourselves (ie, it will work only for your PC):

If you use windows, put "0.0.0.0 adserver.gamesquad.net" or "127.0.0.1 adserver.gamesquad.net" in your Hosts file... you'll never see another ad here again. :)

In XP, it's C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts , no extention. I THINK it's just C:\windows\hosts in Win 98.

Your windows directory might be named differently, though.

EDIT: This seems to work fine in IE. I tried it in Netscape, though, and it gives a pop-up that says "connection to adserver.gamesquad.net was refused", which is just as annoying. Not sure about the other browsers, but most of them can take of the ads on their own.

But if it does link to an inappropriate site, then it should be looked into. So this can stay open.

The Man

I tried that, and every time I loaded a page I got two "connection closed by remote server" browser windows in Opera. It was more annoying than the talking ads, so I undid it. It'd probably be worthwhile in other browsers, but I happen to like my pop-up-killing Opera. =P

Audio ads actually work very well, according to what I've read. They wouldn't be using them if they didn't work. They're trying to make ads that are much more intrusive though. Ads that go full-screen and are hard to close, ads that start talking and are next to impossible to stop, etc. Blame the people who're actually clicking on the things and buying junk. Spam and spam-sorts of things that are nearly free to display to users and that get thousands / millions of people to look at them only needs to be .01% effective or something like that in order to turn a profit.

The Man: If you ran apache on your computer, it'd probably not give you those connection refused things. Redirecting ad servers to localhost without having anything running on localhost doesn't really upset IE though, if I remember correctly. Just Opera.

The Man

Yeah, it didn't upset IE, but I still got pop-ups in IE, which was also more annoying than having occasional talking ads. One of these days I'll have to install a pop-up killer that works with IE, but I prefer Opera to IE in any case.

I suppose talking ads might work well on people who didn't really give a crap about the content of the pages they were looking at, but it's just an intrusion to me. :S Ah well. D:

Taking into consideration that Girls Gone Wild is all about getting young women drunk for the purpose of exploiting them, I'd complain to the server about their choice of sponsors if I were EoFF's webmaster. *cough*

The proxy set up on the LAN I'm using stops virtually all ads (and nearly all online games too).

Yeah, and Girls Gone Wild sucks anyway. I mean...it's not exactly ALL THAT wild if they keep on doing the same thing over and over again. I'd like to see some girls knocking over a liquor store or getting in a shootout with the cops. That'd be wild.

So yeah, I've seen this ad a couple times and it suck suck sucks. Roogle, talk to the host plz :aimmad:

While it really doesn't bother me that much, I don't appreciate it's being there. Especially because it shows up despite my adblocking.

I've always found it strangely ironic that one of the pop-ups here is advertising a pop-up stopper.

I really hate that one.

The Hosts file solution earlier works fine for me in Opera 5 and in Mozilla, no annoying extra popups when server not found etc. :p But it might be because I have a web server on my own PC, so I'm actually getting the normal 404s instead :p

Not irony, just good marketing.

The hosts things seems to work in Phoenix in Linux too, thankfully.

I've blocked all pop-ups and banners to sites I regularly go to. My advice to everyone is to send MS an email and tell them to put some sort of ad control options in IE7, doubtful though. *loves Phoenix*

I don't know if Roogle has the email for Gamesquad, but I sure as hell don't, and last time I checked the only email addresses in the webmaster email are the ones that I put in. So if you like, feel free to PM / email webmaster@eyesonff.com and tell us WHO we're meant to email, thanks.

*cuddle*

EDIT: Snapshots and url's for the ads would be apprecciated, thanks. :D

With Panicware's Pop-up Stopper, I get absolutely no ads, but I think I'll turn it off for a while so that I can see of these ads that I haven't seen before.

http://www.panicware.com if anyone wants to download it. It is free.

Would somebody care to remind me where EoFF's pop-up ads are under? I just switched back to Windows XPee, so I lost my old hosts file.

Just to update on the situation, there hasn't really been a reply, so yeah. Try to deal with the ads for now by using one of the suggestions offered in this thread.

Sorry about the wait.

i wasn't complaining, i just saw it as a little hypocritical

oh well, i understand there ar young uns on this site

Yeah, it would be hypocritical except that we have nothing to do with what type of stuff gets advertised. Thank you for bringing it up though since I'd like to see these particular ads gone.

So did ya'll complain to your advertisers? I haven't seen any Girls Gone Wild ads for a while. Now if we can just figure out a way to get rid of the "Hey, over here" guy...

Yeah, Roogle posted earlier in the thread that he emailed them, and post 29 says that he's yet to get a response.
