Well I can only answer the first two, and that is. www.edgeemu.com You have to register, but it's free, and worth the effort in my opinion. I'm positive they have the English rom, not sure about the Japanese, but I think they do.

I'd be happy to find the more accurate English translated ROM out there, I know it exists but the person I know who has it, I'm not on speaking terms with at the moment. Sorry.

A patch is a thingy that changes the roms, sometimes it translates them from Japanese to English, sometimes it really messes with how the game looks and is played.
To appy them, you need snestool, then just figure it out. It's been too long since I had to use it. :greenie:

If you have ZSNES, you don't need a patch utility. All you have to do is extract the ROM and patch to the same folder (they must share the same filename), and run the ROM, and it automatically applies the patch. Pretty cool, huh?

If it didn't work, check you have a recent version of Snes9x or ZSNES, both will patch on the fly if the patch has the same filename before the file extension as the ROM :p And oh look, I have the Japanese FF6 ROM on my HD too :D (And CT and FF5, but not FF4 for some reason).

And I personally don't like Sky Render's translation of FF6 :p
