Occasionally, when I try to access EoFF, it takes FOREVER to load. Several times today, I just gave up because it was taking so long. Now and then , things'll be working fine, but then slow down to a crawl when I try to go to a new page.

Why? I know it's not because of my internet connection - other sites are just fine.

Server overload, I guess. It happens to all web sites.

Again? I thought we had an arrangement.

Maybe Bleys is letting Porn Guy upload his porn onto the server. That would definitely explain a massive server overload.

What's strange is that these 'overloads' seem to happen at random. Whether there are only a few people loggd in or a whole swag of them, it makes no difference. Today's been particularly bad, and there weren't that many logged in users the first time I tried.

Well look at it right now, only 20 or so people logged in, but about 50 lurkers! They are watching you RIGHT NOW! :aimsurp:

*Hides behind a stack of Bleys' porn*

So... just out of curiosity, what causes these overloads? Is it because of the sheer number of people using a website, or other demands on the server, or something else that's quite beyond the ability of my computer-illiterate brain to comprehend?

Could be your computer, your connection, the server, the site, anything! I'm not sure myself. :p

It's been slow / non-connecting for me all day too. So that eliminates his computer and his connection as the problem. Servers can go slow for all kinds of reasons. Too many people using it at once, someone tripping on a power cord, the server getting a virus, slow computers between you and EoFF's server, etc. Who knows.

Anyways I'm more surprised when the site actually does work well for long periods of time.

Indeed, all credit to those who keep EoFF up and running so well for the vast majority of the time.

All I know is that the ol' webmaster email has got a crapload of database error emails on a couple of occasions over the past month, yup.

50 lurkers? That's overkill when there's only 20 users logged in.

I've not seen the server get insanely slow for myself lately though.

EoFF has never been incredibly slow for me i don't think *ponders* different story for tGA though :( I guess i'm pretty stupid but do the senior site staff actually work somewhere and get payed for keeping EoFF up? I'm a fool i know *slaps oneself*

Don't they operate this place out of the goodness of their sweet little hearts?

The Senior Site Staff is a group of Forum Staffers that have volunteered to start directing the frontsite back into an active, up-to-date place.

The only benefits of working on SSS are... well, there aren't really any. All Forums Staff have access to the Senior Site Staff Forum, although only the main three of us use it somewhat regularly, and every now and then the admins pop in to say hi. =P

Some of us have FTP access which is nice, but nobody can really abuse it because we all have access to each other's folders. Otherwise it's just because we have pride in the main site of Eyes on Final Fantasy. Go us.

However, the Senior Site Staff don't control the server or hosting, that's done by GameSquad.

EDIT: Here's how the Forum-based Site Staff began. (http://www.eyesonff.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17636)

Yeah, it's all server-side, unless it's just a couple of downed routers near the server.

Nothing we can do about it.
