I just got this e-mail and man do I feel spoled now:

Hello FINAL FANTASY XI beta tester,

The FINAL FANTASY XI beta test will officially end on Tuesday
October 14, 2003 at midnight. We sincerely hope you have enjoyed
being a part of this beta test. To thank you we are going to send you
the retail version of FINAL FANTASY XI and an HDD with additional
gaming content when you return the beta HDD you are currently using.
In order to receive the retail version of FINAL FANTASY XI and the HDD
prior to or on the release date of the game, we require that you return
the beta HDD by OCTOBER 28, 2003. Please note that we are aiming to
ship items one week prior to FINAL FANTASY XI's release date.
Information related to shipping or tracking of items will not be
available until then.

REMOVING THE HDD FROM THE PLAYSTATION(R) 2 CONSOLE

1. Exit the FINAL FANTASY XI and PlayOnline software and make sure that
the @ (standby) indicator on the PlayStation(R)2 console front is lit up
in red, then turn off the PlayStation 2 console using the MAIN POWER
switch on the console rear.

2. Disconnect the power plug for the PlayStation 2 console from the
electrical outlet.

3. Loosen the mounting screws of the network adaptor.
* Turn the mounting screws in a counterclockwise direction using a coin.
* NOTE: Do not use a screwdriver to loosen the mounting screws.

4. Remove the network adaptor from the console and HDD.
* Remove the network adaptor by pulling it away from the console. Note
that the HDD remains in the console.

5. Remove the HDD from the console. (To remove the HDD you will need
to temporarily reattach the network adaptor.)
* Press in the two UNLOCK tabs of the HDD to release it from the
PlayStation 2 console.
* Fully insert the HDD power and data connectors of the network adaptor
into the matching connectors of the HDD. Be sure to insert the
connectors straight into each other to avoid bending the pins.
* Remove the network adaptor along with the connected HDD by pulling it
out of the EXPANSION BAY.

6. Cover the EXPANSION BAY.
* After removing the HDD, reattach the network adaptor OR reattach the
expansion bay cover to help protect the expansion bus connector, which
is located within the expansion bay.

RETURNING THE HDD

1. Repack the HDD in the provided Styrofoam packaging and HDD box and
place the container inside the larger Beta Test Kit box.
* Be sure to remove the return-mailing label from the original.

2. Seal the Beta Test Kit box with packing tape.

3. Affix the return-mailing label that came with the Beta Test Kit so it
covers the original shipping label.

4. U.S. Residents: Drop off the box at your local UPS office.

Canadian Residents: Drop off the box at your local Purolator depot.

If you require further assistance or need a new return-mailing label,
please contact SCEA Consumer Services at 1-866-445-7332.

I guess I'll see. All it says it it'll be shipped a week prior to the release of retail... doesn't day f its the PS2 retail or PC retail... knowing Sony it'll be PS@ and I won't get it until a week after PS2 retail is released because I live in Canada and it took an extra week to get it shipped here :(

Oh well, free game and HDD... I'm not complaining :)

Well if you were beta testing it for the PS2 I'd assume their sending you the retail version for that. Apparently Square has been prepared for this for a while, with all the servers being ready and what not. We've all heard that the only reason Square isn't shipping the PS2 version yet is because Sony is giving them hell over the HDD. And given that the PS2 and PC play on the same servers, I wouldn't see why anyone with the game, an HDD, and an internet connection couldn't log on right now and play.

In retrospect if I had thought about it enough I would have purchased the game in Japanese and played it in America. Then as soon as the U.S. verison shipped I'd install that version so I could understand what the NPC's were saying. The community factor would suck given my lack of fluency in Japanese but at least I would be playing it...

It's hard to believe that FFXI is coming out this month. I need to hurry up and get a new computer. I probably won't get to play until Christmas though. You know they took so long to release the game, I'm not even that excited about it anymore.

Now that Zaphier's back it would be great if Taerdin would change his mind about the game. Oh, and since Zaphier was Taerdin's apprentice, should he be the new leader of the Matilda Knights or should Krystic, b/c I believe that he was second in command.

I just mean that some people wont be able to accept that this game is designed for Groups of people....

Not Solo....

Even at a high Level There are monsters that will slay you..... Because you were never ment to fight them All alone....

If you cant get into the whole play as a group thing then you will never get very far and wont have any fun.

My DSL has been getting slower and slower everyday somehow. According to the statistics it's been getting close to the power of a 56k... I'm told we'll switch to cable soon if this keeps up.

Im curious about a couple of things, since you guys seem to be so organized, how hard would it be to start a group?

Also if I were to fail in creating the KS you think it would be easy to join another group?

oh we're organized, we take pride in creating a clan that everyone feels comfortable in....making a clan is hard and takes a lot of social work....

...unless u just wanna make a group and call yourself a clan without having any fun ideas...

I want to make a clan that is made up of people who are loyal to the Kingdom of San D'Oria. Of course there would be an Alliance to other kingdoms in order to participate in big events that would be for the greater good.
Besides, I meant that while starting in the game would it be difficult to start one? Like would it be difficult to gather people that are loyal to the Kingdom of San D'Oria.
I want it to be a clan that is worth recognition and respected, like the WLA or Deusarum de Bastok. Do you really think it would be possible?

It is very much possible, but more a big pain in the ass. Keep in mind the WLA has been around for a year and a half. At this point, I think it is exceptionally hard to make a clan, especially because of the release date in two weeks. Most people already have their clans set for them. I suggest waiting 'til the game comes out to find some non-clan-associated people.

I just have one final question, concerning the rings. If I were to be a Hume and start in Bastok in order to get the ring, could I still change to San D'Oria.

Also thanks to everyone who has answered my questions and if I am able to construct The Knight's of San D'Oria do not hesitate to ask for anything it would be a privelage and an honor to aid in your endevors. My characters name would be Crono, I will try to be on the first server. I look forward to our next encounter.

no, once u start in bastok u are a bastokina no matter wat, unless u delete ur caracter and make a new one....

Actually if you go to another country you can talk to the ppl there and change your alligence for a fee. That way you can do the missions in other countries too.

We are starting to get organized again, but it sucks because I will not be getting the game until March apparently, so yuo guess will have to set up the foundation for the WLA and do a little in game recruiting.... remember... only Windurstians will be allowed in the LS, but we can still make friends with others. Gather Gil, join guilds and make me armor lol! I want to have a free ride when I start *snickers* I'm joking of course, but as one of the first beta people to play I know what it'll be like to start on a fresh server... no cheap stuff at the AH and no people in other nations to send you armor... it'll be a rough start. All I can say is kill crawlers for thread and Calculus and give them to the quest people... fastest way to get money and get to level 10 :)

yes, i agree with what GL said about tryiong to get as much money as possible and joining guilds in the beginning of the game. We have to stick together, and i believe everyone from the WLA has to contribute something to the clan, if its new armor, money, even recruiting new members.

Starting out on a new server wont be that easy so we have to try to do wat i have said above. And getting to lvl 10 is a great accomplishment, it will show many people that the WL is serious about protecting Windurst and making windurst number one n the conquests

i just dont want to see any leveling whores. People who level constantly and do do anyting else just show off (in beta i hated those people, in the first 2 days a i see a person lvl 15 already.....:mad2: )

Grand Lethal, as a Beta tester aren't they shipping you a free HDD and the game when you ship back your Beta stuff? I read on one website that Beta testers will be the only people playing FFXI on the PS2 until March because even if you import an HDD from Japan, Square is only making the PS2 game to ship to Beta testers and won't produce the final copy until February to include all the latest patches. Basically they made it sound like all Beta testers will be able to play the game on what ever format they were testing it on.

i heard the same thing, but i asked many beta testers in the game when i was playing the beta, and they said no, they got nothing in there email stating that this is going to happen....only a mere rumor im sure.....

Grand Lethal posted an email that he got from Square about 20 or 30 posts ago that said he would be receiving the game and HDD when returning his Beta stuff. So unless GL made that email up or Square takes pleasure in torturing innocent Beta testers (though I don't know GL well enough to call him innocent) it would appear that the rumor is true.

Greetings all! I've been wishing for an FF online game for ages (first FF was FF ;) ) and have been hyped for a long time now over FFXI. Just pre-ordered yesterday from my local EB, so should have it within a couple of weeks :).

Any Anarchy Online players in the house? I'm a proud member of Coven of Hunters on RK2 (Clanners R0xx0r!). I will be playing FFXI for the 30 Days that comes with the game to see if its as uber as I'm hoping... If so, AO's going to take a backseat for a while...

I'm here looking for a group of people who'll help each other out with questing and item sharing and whatnot, and are into getting around and seeing just about everything the game has to offer... You know, professional Hunters :). WLA seems like the place to be, as I'm going to be in Windurst anyhow and everyone here seems like a good set of gamers who know what they're doing.

I'd like to take a stab at asking my Org Leader if she would mind me setting up a FFXI Branch of CoH, but regardless of whether or not I pull that off, I'd like to stand up and be counted as a member of your group. Meeting new people in on-line games is awesome and is really what it's about at the heart of it all, and having people to share with and count on early in a game can make all the difference in a first impression.

Will see you all around here, and if your an AO Clanner on RK2, PM me here and we can hook up, I have a 135 Enf and an 80 Shade :)

Just used the Sign-Up link on the main page. Entered my Username (Ichy), my password and my hint... Go to log in right after and it tells me my username and password don't match... So I try the hint ans sure enough it sends me back the right password. Something going on here I don't know about? Is there a sort of verification period?

As a PS2 Beta tester, I WILL be getting an HDD and Game, but unfortunately according to e-mails from sony (those responsible for distributing the HDD and the contributing to my frustration) the HDD and Game will not be shipped until the PS2 release sometime early 2004 (around march). So yeah, it really sux :(

I have nothing wrong with people who lvl like nuts. If they chose to ignore all the eye candy, NPC stories, musical scores, quests, humor, auctions, and all around basic hanging out and enjoying the social aspect of it all...... *catches breath*...... Then that's their loss, not mine. What it amounts to eventually is that I have a high lvl buddy who can give me tips and provide me with needed escorts now and then. In exchange I offer a tour of all the wicked cool stuff they overlooked on their power trip to "win" the never-ending game....... Been saying it for years, "There is no single player MMORPG"..... heheheh... gotta go bend a spoon.... :p

Well, in FFXI, quests'n'such are a BIG part of the game. That's why we don't want level whores in the clan, because they miss too much of the game and won't tend to help out when we group to beat certain bosses and stuff, defeating the purpose of a clan.

Yep, I know it, and I'll be there for as much of it as I can while you aren't busy being there for it for me! Only thing I meant to say is that "lvl whores" (as you call them) ARE good for the overall community in the sense that they give virtually unlimited area access to lower lvl players. All good.

Edit: I worded this pretty poorly in the first sentence... I meant to say we would help one annother, of course.

Hey, I'm back. Firstly, I'd like to welcome all the new members I haven't welcomed yet. I'm sure none of you have any idea who I am, though. Basically, I was one of the WLA's original members. I've been AWOL for a few months now. Again. Sorry.

Oh, and just so I'm contributing, I also have no problem with those who level like mad. Just so long as they don't become condescending or drunk with power.

Meh. I offend people ALL the time. And often make a fool of myself... I don't really care too much about it really. I'm just like that, I guess.

But anyways, we need to get down to business on certain issues as to what server we will be trying to play on. I believe this is best done through messenger, however. I hope that because Krystic and I are getting the game right away, that we will be able to work on getting everyone on the same server... but I don't know. Does the make/delete option still work? Krystic says he thinks they're working on something to prevent that... maybe we're wrong. I hope so.

Hiyas guys i joined WLA last Nov. or Dec. cant remeber which. Just found out about EoFF from Grand Lethal.
I doubt anyone knows me i didnt say much of anything on GFF. Ill be getting the game on the PC release date.
Ill check these forums off and on over the next couple weeks till i get my new Comp. about 7 to 4 days before the release date. I hate haveing to go to the Library to check e-mail and forums... heres a web site we may be able to get some Wp from them they are already in game and they have a spot in there forum were u can request WP http://www.ffxionline.com/ ..

tis beautiful...in fact i am a leveling s-l-u-t (to go backwards), but i level like crazy then experience a good amount of game whiel working with clan, then level like crazy again (but not as much as the initial leveling)

levelers are useful in many ways, and everyone plays differently, just because we level doesnt mean we neglect clan

I never neglect my RL responsibilities just to play, it just so happens I have very little else to do in my off time. Chances are I'll be far to much in awe of all the little things I notice in the game to be considered any kind of lvl whore (not to mention it's been said all over that lvling in general is pretty slow anyhow).

I remember way back last September or so when Alpha and Taerdin talked about playing 40 hours a week. Now, Taerdin won't play any :cry: and I haven't heard how much anyone else will play. I hope to play about ten+ hours a week. Most of that time will be traveling, leveling, finishing quest and mission, etc and whatever is left will be spent in guilds and stuff.

Alright WLAers. Report to our new location, compliments of Krystic, the co-temporary leader of the WLA while GL is waiting for his PS2 version.

This is our new home, though the site is still being worked on. Please note the message asking about anyone with Photoshop 7.0 for help with the banners'n'such. We hope to have the FFXI/Windurst look to it sometime in the near future. The fora, however, are completely functional and ready for use. So sign-up and post often.

Hope it's not too long, I have WPs for people that expire Saturday night for people who are on my block list. They hadn't posted since 16Oct03 according to the board's listing and if I don't hear from them by tommorow I'm going to try to give them to friends of mine who are playing. Then, when they complain that I didn't get them their WPs I have to explain to them how they didn't keep up on the forums to get them. I had a warning out to them for several days before it got taken down for maintenance...

Kieriblood, if you're reading this: Like I told you in the "Where is everybody thread", I have a spare WP for you if you contact me FAST. The password is at home, which I won't be getting to until 2130 EST tonight, so I hope you get this soon... The pass expires 08Nov03 at 2100.

I actually saw that Talos dude in the game a couple days ago. At least I knew he wasn't you and didn't embarrass myself.

By the way, I made a solo trip to Mhaura and took a nice long boatride to Selbina then back. Cost me money but it was really awesome exploring new areas along the way, and the boat ride to Selbina itself was tense with the pirates at all. I hid under the deck with one other dude for 5 minutes. Maybe i'll post pictures.

Wow... I forgot we had such a long thread here... Well then, just a reminder to everyone out there on Midgardsormr, if you're from Windurst and are looking for a LS, we are always open to new members! I won't go into my long and drawn out explanations of the rules... I'll just throw em down quick for you guys:
No swearing on LS, nor religious and/or political discussion. There are times when this slips, it doesn't happen often and it is remembered when it does. Keep it clean enough for everyone to enjoy.
Remember that you represent us when you wear our pearl. That means treat others with respect, don't be irritating, help when you can (but don't drop everything for it if you're busy, we all have stuff to do sometimes, too).
We don't hold events too often, there's just so much to do in this game! When we do, though, at least try to participate once and try it on for size. We always have fun when we do :)

Well my friend just left Final Fantasy XI for good.

I quit the game about 2 months ago because I just got tired of it, but maybe with a good linkshell I can get back in the groove.

I plan on starting over as a tarutaru. This Windurst thing sounds like a good group of folks, and I'd be more than happy to join and perhaps get back into the swing of things.

Problem is that I'm on Carbuncle. If anyone has a world pass handy and could get in contact with me, then I'd be more than willing to give this game another shot.

I'm one to believe that "it's all about the guilds" when it comes down to how your online experience will be. If you have a crappy guild, then it's going to be a boring grind from 1 to whatever the max level is. If you have an interesting and involved guild that you can exp with and actively participate in raids with then it gets a bit more interesting.

I'm still a bit of a noob to FFXI in general (the highest I got before pulling the plug on Carbuncle was 20 BlackMage/14 RedMage) so I might need to learn a bit more about the game still, such as the whole macro deal. It's going to be an endeavor, but I got the time.

I'd randomly create characters and try to land on Midgard, but the problem is I tried that already and after awhile the name I use starts to become invalid.

Off Topic: I love the Lufia sig... I sold my SNES years ago and I can't find... well, you know. I wish they'd re-release both games on a disc for the Cube, it needs worthwhile rpgs... or games in general, actually.

Just a little message from the WLA before this forum gets deleted.

In all our history we have been proud patriots, Windurst Forever, all that jazz. In time and practiced example, however, very little has been done on our part for the actual benefit of our beloved nation. This is not to say that we never intended to, just that due to circumstance, timing, whatnot, when we actually got things done to this end it was few and far between sort of deal.

I have been shell holder and caretaker of the WLA since shortly after launch, building a network of comraderie and general knowledge within our LS. The idea was to have a finely tuned group of wonderful people and great gamers to hang and chat with until such day that our leader and founder, Grandlethal, arrived into the game in March. Mission accomplished, that went great, and never in all our time, regardless of how long or how short a member stayed with us, have we had a "bad apple".

In light of these two statements I have made above, I would like to be the first to annouce formally that there will be a redistribution very soon. It is time to get the shell into our esteemed leader's hands. No definitive date has been set for this switch, however along with it will come a significant change, which is entire purpose of this post:

It has been discussed in private between GL, Keyrana, and myself, and then discussed openly amongst members, and the concencus is in. At the time of transfer we will become a multi-national Linkshell. Please bear in mind that the decision has been mulled over for at least 8 months now and it has finally been made, so no arguments or objections, please, they will fall on deaf ears. We had a 95% majority on this one between all our active members.

Alot to take in, for sure, but here is what we are asking of all WLA members, currently active as well as otherwise: Discussion of the new colour and name of the LS is now open. Final decisions will be made by GL, Key, and myself, but as always our member's opinions count in all our affairs. If you are, or have been a member of the Windurst Liberation Army at any time previously, please stand up, be counted, and be proud. Log back into the LS and participate in our re-structuring. (Posts made here, sadly, will not count. Far too few of our members actually use these forums. Get your pearl on and come on over!).

Know that as the switch is in actual progress I personally remain on the original WLA Linkshell for as long as needed, be it a week or a month, in order to make sure that redistribution is done fully and swiftly.

I'd also like to add that we're looking for a new name, as well as a new color to reflect the change. I'd like to Poll everyone on this, but I don't feel like setting one up :P
So please feel free to post your thoughts here, or send me a PM. I am planning to buy the Linkshell In the next week or so, and would like to have it set up and start distribution over the next few weeks.

The concept behind this that its an 'Adventurers Guild', I want us to start going out of our way to try new things and help each other, and most importantly, find new and exciting things to do :) I would like the name to reflect that, and our general attitude. I'd like to think the WLA has been a happy, feel-good kinda LS, and would like to carry that feeling into the new one.

We will also be assigning some new Sack Holders, we've discussed who these people will be, so we'll set you up when you get your pearls :)

That was actually handed around for a bit and, honestly, it's one of the better suggestions we've had so far. Better than such joke entries recieved, such as "Bob" and "Windypwnsallkthxbye".

Just a point to elaborate slightly, we are staunchly against the use of "leetspeak" in our new title, as well as the display of pink or other irritating neon colours :P

We're getting a decided lack of input from this post, which undoubtably is due to the lack of Midgardsormr players from the WLA on these forums. Here's a couple of suggestions of my own. I didn't actually want to throw my word in, as I have the inkling that alot of our members would jump at it and not come up with their own, but hey, someone's gotta get the ball rolling a bit faster.

Horizon - What is just beyond reach or touch, a reflection of GL's desire to make this an adventuring/exploring LS. Appropriate colours could include Sky Blue (suggested by Northstar), or perhaps a Golden/Orange you might see during a sunrise.

Critical Mass - When a idea or an object exists to a point where improvement or expansion becomes difficult to the point of near impossibility, thereby inducing a state perpetual stagnance. I know, it doesn't sound pretty when explpained as such, but think of it as our LS has reached this state, it can't get any better as it is without taking it back to formula and rebuilding upon a new concept. For the life of me I cannot think of an appropriate colour aside from plain old boring Black. Over half my clothes are black, my PC is black, I love black, it's comfortable... But I don't want to be one of these "I'm-so-cool-look-at-my-badass-black-linkshell-gothic-ffxi-fanboy", you know? You see enough of those. I'd rather have something original and, well, appealing ;)

I like Horizon, but I'm thinking of expanding it to something like Endless Horizons, LastHorizon, LostHorizon, ForgotenHorizons or something like that.

PurpleDots is funny, but doesn't convey what I want. I'm not so sure about Critical Mass.. its the name of a big Web D company out here that I hate because they wouldn't give me a job :P

I do like the EndlessAdventures idea, as well. It has that sort of feeling of entirety that a manuever like this entails. Need to pick a couple of definitives and poll the LS in-game, that will be the best way to get the most input after we've discussed this here.

I will be in Ottawa as well.... 'cause I live next door to it. May not be around every moment to hand pearls out ;). The switch was really quick, though, and there are only a couple of our current members that haven't got in yet. For the record, our old rules still stand as valid: Clean language on LS chat, respect your fellow players (even if someone is being an ass, let someone else put them in their place... Sooner or later these retards single themselves out, so don't do anything to look similar in the process ;) ), try to spend a decent amount of time with us between your other LSs, help your fellow members if you have a spare moment (don't come running everytime if you don't want to, but lend a hand if you can sort of thing).

We are multi-nation now, just to re-iterate that, so if you're not from Windurst it's all good, and if you or your friends can live with these simple rules, proper conduct and common sense, really, then you're more than welcome to request a pearl from us :)
