1. Which uses more RAM, Windows Media Player 9 or the latest Winamp? I keep thinking winamp becasue it takes up a spot on your taskbar.

2. Can I trasfer my WMP playlist onto winamp or do I have to go through and hunt through my HD for the literally tons of songs I have on my WMP playlist?

3. I copied some music from some of my CDs in to Window's Media Audio format, can they be played in Winamp?

I haven't used either of those programs in a while, but I can guess.

1. Taskbar icons don't have much to do with RAM usage. I would imagine that WMP9 uses way more RAM than Winamp.

2. Can WMP save a playlist? Try to save it in .m3u or .pls form. Winamp can open playlists in those formats. If not, Winamp can nicely load music by folder. Click Add, then Directory (or folder, or whatever). Then pick a directory. Have it search subfolders too.

3. I imagine that Winamp can play .wma files, yeah. If not natively, there's almost certainly a plugin for it.

My Winamp 2.91 get's up to and over 30 MB at times, I assume due to my massive playlists I keep swapping around in it, so it's memory management can't be up to scratch. :p Media Player 6.4 sits around 20 MB unless it crashes (due to unstable codecs I've installed), then it goes up to about 200 MB before I kill it :p I'd assume WMP9 would be higher than 6.4 with skinning etc. in it.

Yes, WMP will save playlists in a Winamp readable form, just look at Unnes post for the formats you want to save as :p

My Winamp seems to play WMA fine without me adding extra plugins. I'd recommend reripping your CDs as MP3 or OGG though, because WMA is such a crap format and sounds horrid :p
