Perhaps I'm missing something, but typing in "Originally posted by <name>" each time I want to quote someone kinda bugs me. Is there any way to modify this?

Yes there is. It's called modifying it manually.

Sorry. There is no way.

You're such a party killer.

Instead of saying "Originally posted by", why not go for something completely different? for instance...

Lo, for 'tis true that I do verily declare that Big D hath, just prior to this self-same posting, most eloquently declared, in tones so rich as may indeed be expected from one of such opulent and virtuous stature, that
w00t I agreeThat, or something similar, might serve to alleviate your boredom/frustration with the present quoting style...

I am SO tempted to make that the message that comes up every time that you quote a post.

Why not? After all, we've got [quote], [q], and [qi]; how about [qlongwinded] or [qbigdspecial] for those who crave a little archaicism in their quotes?

eestlinc

how about "originally posted by the user yclept Big D"

Citizen Bleys

yclept?

Big D

"Yclept" = "known as".

Aye, forsooth.

Bloody. I thought I had Elizabethan english cold. I mean, who the *arf* else uses "belike" on a regular basis? It's an archaic term...

yclept is one of the coolest words ever. next to ywimpled of course.

I'm fond of "Sesquipedalian," myself.

also a good one. That was our "long word that we should know" in 3rd grade.

I've always been fond of 'defenestration', however many people seem to think that it sounds like a bizarre sexual practice, so fortune seldom presents one with a satisfactory opportunity to use it.

It's my favourite word of all time, though, so I try to use it whenever possible.

This forum needs a 'defenstrated' smiley...

defenstration <i>could</i> be part of a strange sexual ritual, perhaps.

but defenestration is not a word which describes itself, unlike sesquipedalian.

Simply stated, it is sagacious to eschew obfuscation. ~ Norman Augustine :D

It describes itself if you know fenestra is Latin for window, or fenster is German for window. And honestly, who doesn't know that.

Citizen Bleys

Defenestration refers to death by falling out of a window. The word itself is not self-referential, as sesquipedalian is.

(I.e, the statement "sesquipedalian is a sesquipedalian word" is true, whereas the statement "defenestration is a defenestrative word" makes no bloody sense at all)

But it sounds cool.

This definition is cool too (especially #5 xD):

defenestration

n. [mythically from a traditional Czech assasination method, via SF fandom]
1. Proper karmic retribution for an incorrigible punster. "Oh, ghod, that was _awful_!" "Quick! Defenestrate him!"
2. The act of exiting a window system in order to get better response time from a full-screen program. This comes from the dictionary meaning of `defenestrate', which is to throw something out a window.
3. The act of discarding something under the assumption that it will improve matters. "I don't have any disk space left." "Well, why don't you defenestrate that 100 megs worth of old core dumps?"
4. Under a GUI, the act of dragging something out of a window (onto the screen). "Next, defenestrate the MugWump icon."
5. The act of completely removing Micro$oft Windows from a PC in favor of a better OS (typically Linux).

Good enough reason <i>not</i> to do it right there.
