I was thinking about this for a little bit, and... I like Yuna a lot but, throughout the game, I thought she was way too nice to everybody. Do you think she was too nice?

Yeah, she always apologized when it wasn't her fault and was so readily nice. It was just how she was raised I guess. All she wanted to do was to bring joy to the people of Spira, even if it meant sacrifice on her part.

Maybe that is produced by culture difference .

She was probably too nice, but this would have been due to her upbringing.

Don't forget that summoners, had other duties, to perform as well. They would of been highly respected, by the people of Spira, and expected to be polite.

So then what was Dona's problem? She was far from polite.

Dona had no problem, she was just arrogant and liked to pick at her competition.

Yuna was polite probably because as others said, her upbringing. Isaaru seemed pretty sincere too, just a Yevon fanatic like Wakka blindly following orders.

How could it be her upbringing? She chose to be a summoner against her 'family's' wishes. I doubt her father would have wanted her following his path either.

Yuna's problem was she was an idiot, and noone wanted to stand up to her because she was giving her life for Spira.
Twice in the game her and Auron's choices could have destroyed the world yet they were chosen as leaders. Not difficult choices either, they bot went out of their way to be stupid.
Plus Yuna was close minded. Her opinion on everything was "I will defeat Sin". That's it.

Yuna is a subtle docile person. That is why she apologizes for everything. As for Dona, she may be arrogant and hostile, but may act another way when with the public. This is just one possibility however.

Isn't "Yuna" Japanese for woman who work at men's bath houses and assist them with their, uh... needs? I guess that would make Yuna a little too nice to people.

No.

Yuna is the a Japanese name for a hibiscus flower. Specifically, it's a Okinawa ( the southern Japanese island) name. That's why she has flower motives in her costume. It's also one of the reasons why FFX has a island/water theme. Remember the 1st time Yuna walked on water & did a sending of all the island people who were killed by Sin? Those pink flowers in the water looked a lot like hibiscus flowers.

And I agree with robfinalfantasy that Yuna is a subtle, docile person. I also agree with the others that it's her upbringing & her culture. While the 'flash in the pants', flamboyant characters are good entertainment, it's usually the quiet, silent types who actually get things done.

Think of Yuna as an aikido specialist. Aikidoists avoid confrontation as far as possible. But when pushed, they'll twist & crack your bones. The flashy Kung-Fu guys are impressive but the aikidoists usually have a subtle aura of quiet power. Water is soft but it can also cause a lot of damage.

That puts a totally new perspective on things. Except for the "power" part, Yuna was really weak.

I just thought she was maybe missing her glasses, ponytail and paint covered overalls.

Yeah, she's very polite and nice because of her duty and the way others expect her to be. Spira rely upon her to be their 'ray of light' - someone who will bring the Calm and she doesn't want to fail her guardians or the people who are relying upon her. It's also a way to cover up her feelings, by maintaining the same polite tone, people can't see her true feelings about certain death and the only time she lets her feelings out is in The Spring when she finally breaks down As for Dona, she's just a bitch! :D
