View Full Version : Windows XP Error

I have an HP Pavilion Pentium 4 with Windows XP. Occasionally while running my computer, I would get an error that said something like this:

The system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT/AUTHORITY SYSTEM.

Time before shutdown: 00:00:60

It also said something about the RPC (Remote Procedure Call?) being terminated. So it counted down from 60 and rebooted my computer.

It started doing it about two months ago, and I just let it reboot and it worked fine until it did it again about every two weeks. I left it alone. That was a mistake, because today, it started doing it every time I started up the computer.

I wasn't really sure what to do, so I went to the system recovery screen. I misunderstood the complete meaning of "Full System Recovery" and ended up reformatting my hard drive by accident. Yes, I'm an idiot. xD The OS was reinstalled, and my files wiped out. I was less than happy about losing my files, but I thought it might fix the problem I was having. It didn't. I still get the error when XP loads.

So, um, does anyone know what's going on? I would really appreciate help. Thank you. :)

Ah, there's already a thread about it? Sorry, I didn't notice. Should have looked at the existing threads...

I've also stuck in links to removal tools and patches in the announcements, if anyone reads those :p
