View Full Version : Which is better?

Inspired by the drifting conversation in the 'No Espers' thread, I figured I'd make a poll, because I am cool.

So, which is better? The old days, when spells were named 'Cure 1, Fire 2, Ice 3,' etc in translation, or the original names like 'Cura, Curaga' etc?

Yes you are cool! Anyway I like the Cura and Curaga the numbers just sounds lame.

Numbers. They're so much easier to read and understand. I don't like trying to decipher another language.

Yay thank you! :D

And I prefer the originals, too. It sounds more 'mystic', more like something a spellcaster would say before letting loose a bit of magic.

Cura ~ Cura ~ Curaga

Simply because it's the orignal. It looks much better, too.

"come forth me fire 2!"

I don't particularly mind really, as long as it's obvious in which order increasing strength is (usually from the MP cost) :p

The originals is what I like. The numbers are kinda blah.

Damn, clicked on the wrong choice... Anyway, yeah, the numbers aren't that great, but I'll take 'em over something like "Firaga" any day of the week. As for saying that it's better "simply because it's the original," that's pretty dumb. If we had a litteral translation of Six, Terra would have been named "Tina." *shudders at the thought*

I like the numbers... I hate Firaga, Blizzara and that other stuff.

I guess I'm a person who says a lot of dumb stuff, then.

You guys want everything the way the Japanese have it? Please... that's why we have translators, so that we can understand things better.

If I met a person who said firaga to me, I'd have to kick their a**. j/k

This reminds me of Warcraft 3 on bnet where people use the word "gosu" which is Korean for "great". "Join our gosu clan!" Man I hate that ish. Can't we all just be normal? What, is the english language not good enough for you? You have to come up with new words? Give me a break.

Cura/Curaga still sounds better than Cure 2/Cure 3

It's just a matter of preference. And yes, I'd rather have my games translated into English as close to the original Japanese as possible... and I would have rather had FFX in Japanese with subtitles, rather than the somewhat lackluster preformance the English VA's did.

And yes, this means I hate English. It's a terrible language and I'm really a secret Japanese spy sent to kill or convert you all. [/sarcasm]

Numbers are lame. Cura sounds better than Cure 2.

I persoally prefer the numbers because well... I just don't like words like Cura, Blizzaga, and the worst of all..... Waterga. Just my opinion, but I'm much more inclined to good old digits.

Dunno really. I don't mind but i would have to go with The ra's and the aga's. Simply because it's, as you say, more mystic

Personally, I like the magic spells like Blizzard, Blizzaga and Firaga and Fira. They just sound more appropriate for magical terms.

Wow, please do not revive threads that have been dead for almost a year.
