View Full Version : Is it possible...
Is it possible to beat the game without ever junctioning? I'd say it's IMPOSSIBLE. There are too many reasons why, so I'll leave the specifics to you.

Well, I'm sure it'd be a good challenge. I think it'd be impossible consider alot of the later bosses have high amounts of HP. But that's probably just me talking, haven't played in awhile.

your only option would be attack, and many enemies have high defenses or ridiculously high HP and will wipe you out in a few hits (or even one) regardless of HP if you dont take them out first. and your strength without junctioning will be low, etc. perhaps if you junction ONLY to use the item command and a few party abilities to replace GF and magic (you could amass some stones to use instead of magic)
but just using attack? i dont see how it being very likely, but doesnt mean it cant happen. IMO.. i think its.. well.. suicidal and fustrating. :rolleyes2

Furthest I've got doing that was BGH251F2 (Iron Clad), and that thing thrashed me with Beam Cannon!
I also tried going through Ultimecia Castle, without Junction, didn't work. Catoblepas and Red Giant beat me left, right and centre.
Ultimately however, it should be possible, with the right amount of training. Just try and get your self to level 100 on the first disc then try. Anything IS possible, after all.
Training to level 100 won't help at all, in fact you'll be condemning yourself by doing so. Enemies grow with you, remember? Final Fantasy VIII was designed so you HAD to utilize the GF. The best thing you could do is run away from every random encounter possible, and then during boss battles utilize your limit breaks to the fullest extent.
I've heard that Zell can actually use his limit break in such a way that he'll have unlimited time, letting you make his combo as long as you want. If this is true, it may be possible after all...
I'll boot up FF VIII right now so I may embark on this Suicide Quest. It will be fun, in a sick sort of way. God help me. :eep:

You could beat the game with relative ease not junctioning...even those annoying enemies.....but not for the whole game, just till you got ForbidMed Refine and could make all the STR, MAG, SPR, SPD, VIT, and HP ups you can....then use nothing but aura stones.....but like soulIce said...some bosses have insane hp and defense...wthout meltdown it'd be freaking annoying...unless u had the Loinheart limit.....and Pulse ammo..it could be done but it'd be a gruelingly hard job to get enough stat ups to make ur entire party or even a select 3 to their full potential.....

You forgot that in order to use Aura Stones, you'd need to junction the Item ability, as stupid as that sounds.

HAH! Something I have asked myself. I tried, I got so far. It was somewhat impossible to beat the last boss. Plus you would mostly run away, because they areso powerful and you have to summon and cast and junction.
I got to the end of the 3rd disk. or almost near the end.

Seifer at the end of disc 1 was actually hard when I tried to do it without junctions. Stupid Fira...

wow u guys wanna try not junctioning the whole game?? damn..... do u think u can get the max 255 stats?? i dun think so.. but hey it's interesting.. thinking that i dun have anything to do to the game other than beating the crap out of omega again and again and again... mmmmm..... how about beating the weapon without junctioning?? which means u can junction the whole game but when u';r facing the weapons, remove all the junction....

It's impossible to do it from start to finish. However once you max out stats, you don't need to junction. That's different though.
You should try something more sane like beating the game without spells, items, or GF summons.

well as i said.. try beating mr omega without junction.. u can only have fight and u'r trusty limit breaks.. mmmmmm that'll make u wanna have sephie and cuistis, considering their limit breaks... which means u can only rely on 1 fighter.. (i put my money on zell and his armageddon fist.. but squall is also good...)
Yeah! The Armageddon Fist! Is that the trick that lets you duel as long as you want?

I wouldn't think it possible to beat the game without junctioning. Not only would it be hard because of the monsters beating the snot out of you but parts of the game where you're battling within a time limit would make it difficult as well (Missile Base, Comm Tower).

I've heard of people beating the game without ever SUMMONING, but I don't think its possible without junctioning. Too many attack options rely on the junction system, and there's no way, no matter how strong you were, that physical attacks alone would work on some enemies.

i got all the way to cerberus without junctioning, cuz i hate it and i dont understand junctioning AT ALL. I coulda got farther too but i really wanted cerberus so i just used my gameshark lol. i still have that game saved though so i can go back and keep trying if i skip cerberus...hes just too hard. maybe if i raise my levels up some i can beat him.
The point of training in FF VIII is to make your GF's learn abilities that you can utilize in order to have the edge over the enemy. Training just to level up is a huge waste of time. Enemies grow with you, remember?
And what on earth is so difficult about the junction system?

Junctioning has got to be just as easy as the Materia system in FFVII, once you learn enough about it you fill find this game to be a breeze of fresh air! It's just THAT easy!
Easy as 1, 2, 3. You might as well quit playing if you can't get it.

Not as long as you want. It allows you to get in heaps of hits if you're fast enough. It's just Punch Rush and Booya over and over. Although these are his weakest moves, they are easily executed. You can probably get 5-8 alternating Punch Rushes and Booyas in a second.
I imagine people vary their strat for doing this but I like to slide my finger across the pad to execute the combos. Works wonders.

No way you can really beat even bosses like J. Cactuar and Tonberry K. w/out junctions. First person to cream the strongest GF w/out junctions will have my praise. Even so, I'd still praise them for lasting 5 turns without dying. No way in hell will I deal with such concerns. If you want to go through with this, it's your funeral, but no one will talk me into this.
Well, seeing as both of those GF battles are optional, there would be no sense in fighting them anyway.

I know, but who'll last against Mobile 8 or someone like that? I mean someone tougher than those guys. Who?
Who? WHO???
I think you could do it though, if you are very experienced in using your limit breaks effectively. I mean, Selphie can instantly kill nearly anything. You'd have to have both skill, and luck.
I don't think I could do it, but I'm sure someone could. It's a big world out there, with many hardcore gamers. I believe it's possible.
