There's an "official" translation of FF2 (http://www.lostlevels.org/200312/200312-ffan2.shtml)! I've already played the rom-hacking-translation, but now I gotta try this one too!

It looks pretty bad, really, (mithril as "silver," Marlboros as "Mulbs," Iron Giant as "Iron Man," Paramekia as "Palakia," etc.) but it's nice to know that it exists.

As it says in the article it is contained in the FF origins package along with FF1 which I bought for about 20 dollars but i saw it recently for 15 so its worth it for being able to play FF1 with using the NES and 2 is an interesting game.

That has to be the worst translation ever. At least in FFIV all the spelling was correct.

I don't think it's really fair to compare it to any other translations, considering it was only basic groundwork for what would have come if it hadn't been cancelled. I'm sure proofreading would have come near the end.

I'm still against calling Minh "Ming-Wu," though.

Wow, looks like Richard was originally going to be renamed Edward. I guess that's where they got the idea for Gilbert's new name when they translated FFIV.

I STILL say Gilbert's English name shoulda been Beauford! At any rate, I think it's hard to not love sucky translations. Take FFVII for example. How can you NOT love Cid going off on Weapon? Oh well, I bet someone's gonna try to blame this on Woolsey as usual.
