You'd also be missing FF3j, unless you're emulating it.

I actually own the game on super nintendo and on Playstation one....

I'm talking about FF3j, for the NES.

*sigh*

FF2j, FF3j, and FF5 were never originally released outside of Japan. In order to avoid consistency errors, Square of America decided to call FF4 (the one with Cecil and Cain) FF2, and to call FF6 (the one with Terra and the espers) FF3. Of course, the confusion started when the released FF7 and didn't decide to call it FF4.

FF2j was released as part of Origins, and FF5 was released as part of Anthologies. FF3j has only been released on the NES, and only in Japan.

In Japan, they got FF1-3 on the Famicom (the Japanese name for the NES), FF4-6 on the Super Famicom (Japanese name for the SNES), FF7-9 on the PSX, and FF10, 10-2 and 11 on the PS2, with FF12 forthcoming for it. Japan also got FF1&2 on WSC, along with re-releases of FF1,2,4,5 and 6 on PSX complete with FMV movies (AWESOME!)

In USA, We got FF1 for the NES, then Square skipped a couple games and gave us FF4 for the SNES, only they called it FF2. Then they gave us FF6, only they called it FF3. Around this time people were wising up to Square's name game, and growing upset with not having recieved FF2,3 or 5. When square jumped ship from Nintendo to Sony, they Released FF7 for the PSX, but they called it FF7. I guess they were trying to turn over a new leaf or something. Later, Square re-released FF1, 2 & 4-6 for PSX and gave them their correct titles.

In USA we've gotten all the Final Fantasies at this point EXCEPT for FF3. Why? It was never remade for WSC. What's WSC? The Wonder Swan Color. It's a handheld system released only in Japan by Bandai made to rival the GBA. Square, wanting to make portable games, but not willing to swallow their pride and make GBA games yet, re-made FF 1, 2 and 4 for WSC. They were given all new graphics and sound, and FF1&2 were given loads of new features. These versions were later ported over to the PSX (except the FF4 remake, PSX already has FF4), which are the versions of FF1&2 that you can now buy on Origins. A remake of FF3 was planned, but never made. Because of this, there exists no version of FF3 that would be considered acceptable by today's standards. Square probably WILL do a remake of FF3 at some point, hopefully even for GBA, but right now, there is no version of FF3 that exists in USA.

If you're still confused, check out the following chart, which outlines how the games were released in both coutnries:

Original game name in Japan Original game name in US Original system released onRe-release name in USRe-release system Final Fantasy I - 1987 Final Fantasy I - 1990 Nintendo Final Fantasy I (origins) - 2003 Playstation Final Fantasy II - 1988 Not released originally in US Nintendo Final Fantasy II (Origins) - 2003 Playstation Final Fantasy III - 1990 Not released originally in US Nintendo Not re-released in US N/A Final Fantasy IV - 1991 Final Fantasy II - 1991 Super Nintendo Final Fantasy IV (Chronicals) - 2001 Playstation Final Fantasy V - 1992 Not released originally in US Super Nintendo Final Fantasy V (Anthologies) - 1999 Playstation Final Fantasy VI - 1994 Final Fantasy III - 1994 Super Nintendo Final Fantasy VI (Anthologies) - 1999 Playstation

And from here on out all of the names are the same in both Japan and the US for the Final Fantasies.

Just remember that Final Fantasy II and III on the Super Nintendo were called Final Fantasy IV and VI in Japan, as they are the 4th and sixth games in the Final Fantasy series and that now the US uses the original naming in the Final Fantasy games, as does Japan.

1) You said that you owned the third Final Final Fantasy (which was never release in the US), when you don't.
2) You didn't understand what people were trying to tell you.

I own the Final Fantasy 3 game for the Super Nintendo and I own Final Fantasy Anthology for Playstation 1. Do not say that I am lying because you are the one lying!

FF3j is ONLY the Nintendo game, never a Super Nintendo game. FF6 was ONLY called FF6 in Japan. You own FF6, not FF3 (Also, no one uses the names on the US cartidges nowadays).

Then, after that, you got confused, that's why I made the chart.

I HAVE FINAL FANTASY 3 FOR THE SUPER NINTENDO AND I HAVE FINAL FANTASY ANTHOLOGY FOR PS1! YOU ARE THE ONE NOT UNDERSTANDING

Flying Mullet
01-13-2004, 04:37 PM
I understand what you're saying. I guess what I'm trying to say is that very few people call Final Fantasy III on the Super Nintendo Final Fantasy III, they call it Final Fantasy VI now, regardless of what the label on the cartridge says.

In the future, when you refer to Final Fantasy III on the SNES, call it Final Fantasy VI or you are going to confuse a lot of people (as happened in this thread), as nowadays when you say Final Fantasy III most people think of the 8-bit release that only came out in Japan, not the Super Nintendo Final Fantasy III that came out in the US.

Sorry for the confusion. :(

Yes xD

Simple rule, all the English language SNES ones have the wrong number on them and in the game, that's it :D All the other English ones, regardless of console, are labelled correctly both on the package and in the game :p

that is awesome. i also just bought ffanthology for cheap. I now have 1,2,5,6,7,9 and tactics on psone, which is cool.

I don't think they will ever rerelease ff3j in the US or anywhere else. Too bad, but it does make the game a little more special to those of us who have played it in English.

So do you own FFIIIj or emulate it? It's on the NES(acutally the Famcom, the Japanese equivalent). Again, Final Fantasy III on the SNES IS NOT the third Final Fantasy in the series, it is the sixth. If you don't own Final Fantasy IIIj on the Famcom or emulate it (IT IS about four youth who stumble across a crystal, IT IS NOT about Terra and the espers), then you also are missing Final Fantasy III. Final Fantasy III on the SNES is Final Fantasy VI.

A while ago I was recommened to play ffIII. So I went and emulated it. I start playing and saw how cartoony it was. I figured hmmmm, they recommended it so it must be good. I kept playing, got to the part where Cid hands me the air/balloon ship. Ater I busted the rock blocking my way I just couldn't stand playing the game because it didn't attract me. I went to look at the list of ff games and immediately understood. So yeah, I was suppose to play the US's FFIII (which as everyone knows is the Japanese's FFVI), but instead I played the Japanese's FFIII, which had no reel for me.

Anyway, seifer gurl, did you DOWNLOAD final fantasy 3 (This is not the one with terra and shadow. different game, same name) or do you own the Soft?
