I was reading the announcements and I had an idea.

What if every three months or so a thread was made in GC taking requests for name changes and left open for a week say. Then a limited (predecided) number were taken and announced. That would mean members could keep track of who's who, and admins would have an easier time making and monitoring changes.

I know this could result in people making requests for the sake of it, but if a limit is put on the number taken, and people are only allowed to request every other thread it should keep numbers down. A waiting list system could be used for people rejected first time if there is a rush.

I don't know if name changes are a hassle at all or not, but I thought I'd mention it.

Its not really a big deal; we already put a "Formerly" field in profiles to try and make it easier for people to keep track.

Nah. People like to change their names at different times. Doing this would remove the spontinaety of things.

Plus it would make confusing people much more difficult.

just pick a good name when you register and then it won't be a problem.
