View Full Version : Atomos - Do you really use him?

I was just thinking - each time I have beaten Final Fantasy IX the one Eidolon that I have never really used is Atomos. I just don't really see the point of him - but even still I always make it a point of having Dagger master him.

So what about the rest of you? Do you use Atomos or kick him to the curb?

I don't use Eidolons.

Atomos is the best summon in the game.

That said, no. I used all my ore on Garnets.

I use him a fair bit. He does about 9999 damage against Iron Giants the first two rounds or so.

I use them all at least once to see their effects, otherwise I don't rely on any of them :p

I use them once to see the effects, but I never really bother collecting ore and stuff in order to power them up.

I use different Eidolons at different times depending on what the situation calls for but if Atomos is going to be effective at the particular moment the yeah I'll use him. I'm not one who's opposed to using Eidolons. I'm just lazy.

I only used them against bosses that had a certain elemental weakness.

Nah, never used him... I really never use Eidolons, well sometimes but NOT often :D

for anyone who dosent use the eidolons. why dont you use them?

Reina

In most cases the rewards are not worth the effort (MP). Aside the odd Phoenix  when Eiko is the only one in party alive, I rarely need them- if I do it it's a PeTeRL90 because of an opposing element.

I only use Atomos if, by pure coincidence, I possess 70+ Amethysts, otherwise I only ever use Phoenix and the ocassional Madeen. Garnet's Eidolons are practically useless compared to Eiko's.

Sometimes...but not as often as Diablo in ff8

Eidolons are terrible. They cost too much and do less damage than my characters already do. Plus they all are immune to/absorb shadow so Doomsday is actually usable. So... yeah. Eidolon usage is illogical in my case.

Ark?

Del Murder

Eiko's are awesome. Ark is good but too many enemies absorb shadow damage for my taste. As for Atomos, I've never used it, except maybe one time to see the animation sequence.

I still say Ark is the best even if it does no damage because it's basically a pause and heal with auto regen turned on.

I only use three Eidolons-Bahamut, Ark and Madeen. I think I summoned Atomos one time or two...

The full-length Atomos animation (including Atomos rising from the forest) is great, but you can't beat the FMV of Atomos destroying Lindblum. All those soldiers, mages and buildings getting ripped through the air was awful, especially when Atomos vanishes and the debris and victims continue falling. All of the Eidolon FMVs are great, but when I've got a high-level party, I'll rarely ever use an Eidolon if there's a different form of magic that's quicker but just as powerful. Flare, Holy, Mighty Guard, Frog Drop and Doomsday can do everything that most Eidolons can, and more.

The thing with Eiko's summons is, to get the most out of them, you have to equip different items for different attacks (with Fenrir and Carbunkle).

What does Atomos do? I've tried him but I've never got what he does........I think I'm going mad..........someone help me............give me bloooooooooood.....................

Big D

Atomos is a gravity-based attack, so the damage dealt is proportional to the enemy's HP. A tougher enemy takes more damage.

Thanks. I think I'll try him on some bosses now. I saved over one of my best games so I started a new one and got further, and better.

I use him when I'm just wondering around randomly but thats about it

well atomos is the only eidolon of any real worth. however i only ever use him against the YANS,those evil little sheep. 3 yans r second only 2 ozma and atomos is really useful. my training to lv99 would have been so much longer without him.

What's up with nobody liking Atomos... he is the most powerful after all. Does jsut as much as Ark... for only like what is it... 16 MP??? and takes MUCH less time!!! I NEVER use Ark cause he takes so frickin long. Next to Phoenix... I'd say Ark is the best. closely followed by Odin adn Carubuncle. Flare isn't any better than most of the Eidolons.... it's too costly. Doomsday is okay I guess.... but you have to equip crappy armor in order to not kill yourself. So, I don't see why everyone sees Atomos as such a "waste"

aeris2001x2

flare is actually the best spell. 9999 definitly, espically using the auto reflect method.

Clyde Arronway
04-11-2004, 01:22 AM
Because it is impossible to go past 9999 attack and multi attack spells don't exist in this game (unlike Knights of Round, FFVII, or Eden, FFVIII)
So, the dark matter, atomos in many circumstances, frog drop when quina's level * frogs caught > 9999, or thievery when zidane's agility * number of steals > 9999 are all the most powerful. it is theoretically possible for flare to do less.

I don't use Eidolons.

Too much mp, small effect, too much time.
I played FF8 the same way, used diablos alot first time through though.

actually eiko and vivas trance w magic allows 2x9999. the max a turn then is 19998.

and i never got thivery 2 9999, 2 much time , bout 7000.

also shock is 9999 2 definite. and freyas dragons crest is easy 2 get 9999 4, well better then thivery. espically if u killed hordes of great dragons above gizimulukes grotto using quinas (power glove? that move that does 9999 if quina on 1 hp) special move 2 get to lv50+ on disc 1. there r so many dragons 2 kill and far easier and quicker.

why woud you use limit glove when level five death works so much easier? And EVERY character has at least one attack that does 9999 every time.... it's just thta some require no work at all (Flare, Doemsday, Shock) and some require quite a bit (Frog Drop, Thievery, No Mercy, Dragon's Crest) The REAL difference is that once you work them all up, you'll find that paying ALOT of MP for Shock or Flare is not worth it compared to paying 5 for Frog Drop or what is it? 14... I think, for Thievery and 16 for Dragon's Crest. Atomos is 18 I think... and it can do 9999 or 100% of opponent's HP EVERY time as well... so the choice is do you want to do the work and make who are the "weaker" characters become strong? or just be satisfied with the "strong" characters of Vivi and Steiner?

well lv5 death is not avaliable on disc ONE! the omly move capable of quick victory when u first reach gizimulukes grotto is that glove thing.

well since i bashed ozma on disc 3 there was no real need. i have my viva, steiner, eiko, garnet, freya do 9999 and zidane do 7000+, amarant do 5000+ andd quina do 9000+ and thats plently to crush everything in the game.

Actually, you CAN get it. Go to one of the beaches before you enter the Grotto. There are big whale thingies you can get it from.

Yeah, but... what's the fun in being..... satisfied? Why not make every character an almighty juggernot?

Clyde Arronway

Unless you have some wierd verson of IX, those whale thingies ought not be on any beaches on mist continent. Even if they were, they'd be WAY to powerful

Strange, I get it there EVERY time I play.. maybe mine is like scratched in like JUST the right spot lol.

04-16-2004, 10:54 PM
yep i never found them and would defintly have got whopped unless i used the glove move.

my characters r already all powerful juggernauts anyway. ozma and hades r dead, the only thing of hardness is yans.

and even with 9999 4 each character attacks, three yans can occasionaly still whoop u.

Doesn't Atomos have some kind of gravity attack?
I think Gravity pretty much sux in all the Final Fantasy games...
I use other eidolons though :) I LoVE Eiko Terra Homing :)

BTW: IM new here hello ;)

Clyde Arronway
04-18-2004, 04:01 AM
Gravity does work well except so many are immune to it. It is a necessity for some battles like that dragon thing in VIII.

Yes, terra homing is good too. Except the eidolon's name should be mauduin, like the VI esper

I figure that if you work for them, Eidolons are great. What I would do is take Eiko for healing and summoning while having the others doing their physical attacks/offense magic (those others being Freya, Zidane, and Vivi)

I have never really used him before and i don't use Eidolons to often.
