A madman named an unlucky beast, (Hojo named Red XIII "unlucky really gave that away")
And aptly so to say the least. (He calls him RED XIII, Nanaki is red)

The blood of the planet, (Lifestream)
That runs over mountains, (Green chocobo)
It has halitosis, (Malboro)
But it can do enough spells to make up for it. (Magic materia)

The connection? The colour, they're all green.

Everyone's guesses have been pretty good, but one_winged_angel has made the most progress, I'll say that the solutions to two lines have been found so far. I'll also say that these aren't random, however this one is a little sneakier than some of my earlier riddles. Though in fairness I've done some much harder ones I think :D.

You had to take each line pretty literally to crack them, as the connection isn't obvious. These are the scenes prior to aquiring each vehicle in the game :P. I know I'm cruel...

Mimic, their are four hidden materia that only chocobo's can reach. KToR has been turned down, you can then (with Mimic) heal with Cure 3 or White Wind twice for a massive heal or cast Ultima Twice for massive pain.
