No, sorry. I capilitalised the 'A' in Ancient for a reason as the answer is related to them in a roundabout way.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-24-2005, 10:05 PM
Temple of the Ancients?

TheSpoonyBard
02-24-2005, 10:31 PM
No. I know I said it's related to the Ancients the actual answer has nothing to do with them. I suggested the Ancients because they will lead you to the riddle's solution.

The Promised Land! :D

TheSpoonyBard
02-24-2005, 10:42 PM
No, but a clue to the answer does help the characters get nearer to understanding the Promised Land.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII

*stares at it for 5 minutes*

uhhh, Titan?

I also noticed you could divide this thing up into a bunch of two-liners. Should we start thinking of stuff with four elements to them?

TheSpoonyBard
02-24-2005, 11:05 PM
Titan? Not quite. In fact nowhere near.

You're getting the right idea by trying to look at it line by line. If you follow the commas you'll see there are seven individual sections (the fourth runs onto two lines) and each has it's own significance. Try to do something with it now you know that.

Maybe Lifestream?
Or the Weapons?

If no one wants to write a new riddle this afternoon, I might write one this evening. I'm done with my research paper, so less stress! Not right now, though, b/c I have to take care of presentation things.

Where is ForestOwl? She's supposed to say, "Congratulations, Weimar!"

A calm breeze prevails, = Healing Wind
Carrying our voices away, = Seal Evil
From below we hear a sigh, = Breath of Earth
Eminating from the angry forge Where swords and shields are made, = Fury Brand
One to attack, the other to defend. = Planet Protector (only one that doesn't work nicely)
To stand here, listening to the trobbing heartbeat of nature, = Pulse of Life
Is enough to make even to toughest of hearts sing "Hallelujah" = Great Gospel

Very well written, FO.

TheSpoonyBard
02-25-2005, 08:40 PM
"Congratulations, Weimar!"

Line 5 (the Planet Protector line) does make sense if you start from line 3 and follow it through. Your turn.

"Thrice the master said 'play.'
I made many cry the second time I was.
I have a cousin that's older yet less mature."

Okay, this one is gonna be hard. I don't remember anyone doing a riddle like this before. If you open your mind up to possibilities, this riddle is easy.

redxiiii
02-26-2005, 11:26 AM
Zack?

TheSpoonyBard
02-26-2005, 12:38 PM
My guess is Cloud. His master could be Sephiroth and he controls Cloud at three points in the game (Temple of the Ancients, Forgotten Capital and the Northern Crater). I'm not too sure about the cousin part as I wasn't aware Cloud had a cousin.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-26-2005, 08:42 PM
Not Zack.

Oh, and I'd never write a riddle whose answer was Cloud. People could guess it easily. I like how you came up with controlling at 3 points in the game, though. You're right about the cousin part. Cloud doesn't have a cousin mentioned in the game. I mean cousin in a loose sense. If you figure out what the answer is, you'll understand why it has to be used loosely.

Both guesses were way off. I'm gonna take on PA's philosophy of mininal hints. But to make it not impossible, use the hint that you have to open your mind to possibilities of what the answer could be. I don't mean related to the riddle, but just what the solution is.

??Sephiroth??

PhoenixAsh
02-27-2005, 01:41 AM
Well my guess is FFVII itself, for a few reasons, but it seems like my logic is quite abstract (and I think only really in my head because I was reading on this the other day).

EDIT: Might aswell offer my thinking I guess.

"Thrice the master said 'play.'(Japanese, American/European Release, FFVII International.)
I made many cry the second time I was.(Japanese lost out after seeing the extras in the American Version.)
I have a cousin that's older yet less mature."(The oldest version of the game actually is the least developed.)

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-27-2005, 04:38 AM
Wow, that's very good logic, PA. I almost want to give it to ya.

When I say 'master,' it means expert at one's craft.
'Cry' can be taken literally. You could also supplant it with 'feel very sad.'
You have the right idea with cousin, although what you described is more like 'sisters.'

I like the way you used my other hint. Enter the game a little, but not too much.

Chocobilly
02-27-2005, 08:11 PM
Is it Yuffie? Cause her master could be her father, Godo, the second time she apears explicitly in the game is when she takes thine materia, and then her cousin could be one of the people in the pagoda?? I am probably not right, but you know, worth a shot right?

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-27-2005, 10:37 PM
Hello, Chocobilly. Welcome to the FFVII riddles thread.

Cousin should be construed as something metaphorical. If you know what the answer is, you can figure out what the metaphorical cousin might be.

Also, Chocobilly made an obvious guess. See how PA guessed? You need to think like that. Also you ignored my hint where I defined 'master' for you. The first line should help you figure out what is so unusual about the answer. Unfortunately, PA misconstrued the definition of 'play.' What else could 'play' mean?

PhoenixAsh
02-28-2005, 01:55 AM
Okay, in that case I go with Aeris' theme. Master referring to musician, and three referring I guess to three times that it is played during the game (I can't remember if that's true or not). The second time would therefore be at the end of disc one. I don't know whether the last line refers to the non-orchestral version, or possibly if I remember rightly, a similar song played during the opera scene in FFVI.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-28-2005, 03:43 AM
Congrats, PA! Your turn.

The third line was talking about Aeris's other theme, otherwise known as Flowers Blooming in the Church, I think. It plays before the one that plays during Aeris's death, and it's just, I guess, a calmer version. Not really a very emotional song.

Yes, it does play three times. Once during Elmyra's flashbacks, again at Aeris's death, and finally shortly before the end of Disc 2. The party reminisces about Aeris a bit, and Cloud wants everyone to forget her. Then, Aeris's theme fades out rather quickly to be replaced by the Highwind theme that keeps playing until you insert Disc 3.

Um, doesn't Aeris' theme play during the FMV of the escape from the Crater?

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-28-2005, 06:04 AM
You mean on Disc 2? No music plays during that FMV, until the very end, and the music there is not really a song. Just a dissonant chord.

EDIT: Oh, you mean during the ending? It features Aeris's. . .uh, motif in that song, but the name of the song is World Crisis.

Yeah, I meant during the ending. Yes, the song is called World Crisis, but it definitely has Aeris' theme in it.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-28-2005, 07:00 AM
Well, the answer is the song called Aeris's Theme or earisunotema, and what you hear in World Crisis is not a song, but more like a motif or even a theme itself, but it's not a song. I mean, it's not a song until you play the whole track. The 'master' did derive that part of the song from Aeris's theme, though, much like he does later several times in the piece. "Baaaa ba ba diiii daaa!"

Yeah, I didn't think of that, but it wasn't enough of a confusion to stop PA from solving the riddle.

Oh, PA, since we solved your other riddle, do you want to start writing new ones now? Or, do you want someone else to write one?

PhoenixAsh
02-28-2005, 06:48 PM
Okay I guess I should start another one going, but I have way too much on my mind to write it now. If I can I'll post one tomorrow, but someone else go for now. By the way, nice way to mix up the types of riddles Weimar :D .

My music appreciation professor told us that...

- a motif is usually an incomplete melodic idea around two to ten notes long and stands for a specific person, thing, or idea. (i.e., think the five descending notes in Phantom of the Opera - that's the Phantom's motif)

- a theme is usually a complete melodic idea that also stands for a specific person, thing or idea. (think the entire title song from Phantom of the Opera - it's repeated, both with and without words, many times throughout the whole musical)

- a song is by definition something which is sung. Instrumental music is called either by the name of what it actually is (a symphony, a sonata, etc.) or simply a "piece."

A little off topic I know, but interesting nonetheless. So I would say that Aeris' motif appears in World Crisis, cause if I remember correctly it's only the first ten notes or so, and not a complete melodic idea.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
02-28-2005, 09:35 PM
Hmm, I didn't know a song had to be sung. I have heard the term, "piece" before, actually. So, the answer was the piece named Aeris's Theme. Not Aeris's theme or Aeris's motif, or whatever that is also in what I called the answer's cousin, or whatever is in World Crisis, either.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-08-2005, 05:38 PM
Hey everyone. I am at a hotel in Switzerland, so thats why I have disappeared for the week. hmm, i only have 2.11 francs left, so id better be quick.

First was hey
Last was materia.

PhoenixAsh
03-09-2005, 05:13 PM
My first though is Yuffie, and possibly her first and last words, can't quite remember. I think here last line may have been about having the materia when this is over, but that may be from an earlier section.

I think it's Cid, although I'm not sure, it could also be that 'slow' assistant of his, what's her name. *Can't think of her name.* I'm stumped otherwise. Note: try to say if someones wrong or right in the thread to keep the thread going. Much appreciated!

First was hey.
Last was it can't be.

Sephiroth's first words during the mission in Nibelheim to his fall into the Mt. Nibel Mako Reactor after his massacre of the village. In other words, his first and last words five years before the beginning of the game:

Cloud
"Hey, how are you doing?"

(The soldier makes a dismissive gesture, then sinks down lower.)

"I'm all right."

Cloud
"I wouldn't know..."
"I've never had motion sickness."

(He walks to the other guard.)

Cloud
"Everything okay?"

(He walks to the middle of the truck. Sephiroth looks up.)

Sephiroth
"Hey."

(Cloud turns.)

Sephiroth
"Settle down."
(Bolded for emphasis.)

Sephiroth
"Don't... push... your luck..."

Sephiroth
"...It can't be!"
(Bolded for emphasis.)

Sorry for the delay in posting a new riddle. I kind of forgot that I solved the last one.

So here we go:

Who am I?

Weimar Pluto Knight VII

Hades? Found in the Gelnika near Emerald, and it's a summon.

Sounds like a chocobo to me.

Leviathan[blue]'s peer, Emerald[green]'s roommate, [the other colour is yellow]
The skies above await! [they can't fly, but there is a bird reference]
As swift as Bahamut, as graceful as Phoenix, [more references to its movement]
Behold the strength of my kicks! [chocobos kick when enraged]

Who am I? [a chocobo/ChocoMog]

Am I right?

would it be the sephiroth clones? (probably not)

TheSpoonyBard

SilverWind is the closest so far. There is something specific about the party members that you need to discover.

Masamune·1600
03-16-2005, 09:10 PM
Well, the one that "lays in the depths" is most likely Aeris. The six making it far might be the six other non-hidden characters. The twelve, though.....

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-16-2005, 10:19 PM
There are 12 signs in astrology.

Aries is Aeris=the one who is in the depths.

Where to go from there--I'm lost.

uuuuh, Avalanche? 9 playable characters plus Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie equals 12.

TheSpoonyBard
03-16-2005, 10:27 PM
Aeris is an Aquarius, but I'm going to give it as so many people were not getting anywhere.

'Twelve of me there are (there are twelve zodiac signs)
Seven of me you possess (seven of the characters have zodiac signs. Cait Sith and Red are the exceptions)
Six will make it far (six of the characters with zodiac signs make it to the end fo the game)
The other lays in the depths' (Aeris doesn't make it to the end)

Weimar, your turn.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII

DaremihC
03-17-2005, 09:18 PM
Well my friend got this one right away. It's in a different format than the other billion riddles in this topic.

here goes:

Janitor's Limit was Broken by this.

Good Luck!

TheSpoonyBard
03-17-2005, 09:26 PM
The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is Limit Break, because it 'breaks the limit'. It may be wrong, I'm really tired so can't think straight.

DaremihC
03-17-2005, 09:32 PM
On the right track, it's the easiest of the three I have...
There may be more than one answer... I'm not a stickler for details on these easy/vague ones...

TheSpoonyBard
03-17-2005, 09:38 PM
A janitor is seen as a low status job (apologies to people who know janitors/cleaners/caretakers) and at the other end of the occupation spectrum are people in managerial positions, commonly known as a 'Big Shot'. Is the answer Barret's Lv 1-1 Limit Break?

DaremihC
03-17-2005, 09:46 PM
nope...

Weimar, give it a go!

EDIT: I will be gone untill around 9:00 PST... Just keep guessing, when you get it, it should be pretty obvious, but I'll confirm it later... if someone gets it...

PhoenixAsh
03-17-2005, 11:10 PM
Well I doubt this is it given your last response, but I'd have said that something that breaks a limit would literally be 'super', and a janitor would be a 'sweeper'. Therefore my guess is................................................................................................
'Super Sweeper'.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-17-2005, 11:12 PM
Would I be on the wrong track if I remembered the part where the door was broken in the Shinra Bldg, and the guy who gave you the keycard to the next floor thought Cloud was the janitor?

Or, a janitor cleans........... Finishing Touch? Or, maybe the janitor didn't like the GREASEd lightning? Maybe he makes a Clear Tranquil? Maybe he is a LANDSCrAPER? That's all I can think of.

DaremihC
03-17-2005, 11:16 PM
Okay... nevermind about my last edit...

Good logical answers, but all wrong...

wrong janitor too... but your on the right track Weimar...

EDIT: one more guess and I'll give a little hint

udsuna

I thought in light of the latest FF7 trivia that has been started it would be good if we involved a little more thought and slowed down the pace a bit, so I made a FF7 riddles thread, my riddle isn't very good but I'm hoping that everyone that replies can write some that are better. (don't post one 'til you answered one like the trivia thread)

Well, you find Cid's final limit on the Gelnika after Ruby Weapon attacked and destroyed it. So, Ruby Weapon?

It's either that, or you're being incredibly gay and just talking about how any attacks that cause damage create limit breaks. So, that's my second guess.

What was Cid's limit in the game? (Not a Limit Break; an actual limit or line that he could not cross)

He had this thing where he wouldn't kill Shera... and he wouldn't marry her, either... so, it could mean her. Only answer that wasn't taken.
The rocket was the ShinRa... yes, they named their ship after their own company... pretty sad, eh?

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-19-2005, 01:18 AM
It was the Shinra 26 I think. I can never remember the #.

You're asking what broke the limit. So. . .Meteor broke his limit to the sky. B/C of Meteor, Shinra revived the Space Program, so they used the rocket in Rocket Town. Cid took the oppurtunity to get on his rocket. So, he ended up in space.

Is the answer Meteor?

You guys were sooo close, but I realy don't feel like waking up at 4:00 in the morning to see if anyone got the answer to this riddle.

For the next week, I will be in Middle-of-Nowhere, AZ, building a church.
So I'll have to give you the answer and let the next poster post their riddle...

Don't worry, I've got two harder ones for you guys... you'll also get to see my way of thinking for the next riddles...

Answer is: Satellite Beam

Yup... Cid's "limit" (not-quite-space) was "broken" by Barret's 'Satellite Beam' limit break... I'm sure you woulda gotten it in a coulple more tries anyway...

Well, wish me luck!

DaremihC, that was a really poor riddle. Even with the answer it makes no sense.

I'll take the next riddle if that's ok with everyone.

"I am the beginning of the end,
Residing in the spinning skies,
Atop my waxen steed,

Matriarch precedes me,
She is an amalgam of many,
I am less harmful than my brother,

Its Safer Sephiroth.

"I am the beginning of the end, (Final section before the end of the game)
Residing in the spinning skies, (The background setting)
Atop my waxen steed, (I'm not quite sure what this means, but he is kind of on something)
My 'super new' is to be feared indeed. (Supernova)

Matriarch precedes me, (Jenova Synthesis, Mother)
She is an amalgam of many, (Synthesis)
I am less harmful than my brother, (Bizarro Sephiroth... not sure how Safer is less harmful)
Who I find to be quite perculiar." (Bizarro/Bizarre)

TheSpoonyBard
03-20-2005, 06:30 PM
Well done. "Waxen steed" was referring to Pale Horse, one of Safer Sephiroth's attacks. "Less harmful" was a reference to the name 'Safer' i.e. 'more safe'. All the other clues you guessed correctly. Your turn.

Ah yes, very good riddle. Kind of in the every line means something different style, but not. I liked it.

For reference I actually think DaremihC's has potential. It's just a very different style to what we're used to, if it becomes more standard it could be pretty good.

That said I'm gonna pass on my go for now, I'll try and start posting once I can remember enough about the game to write one.

EDIT: Okay never mind I'm going to post a riddle, but its a murder mystery style that I used a while back in Gen FF. This is just a test to see if it'll work as a style, so there isn't as much FFVII knowledge required as there should be, so if someone wants to riddle while this ones going feel free :D. I wrote this quickly, so it may not work, be warned, it is a test:

One week after Sephiroth is defeated the party find themselves stranded in the mountains outside Cosmo Canyon. The effects of the forces they encountered one week earlier have been unpredictable, but for now the party are beginning to act slightly oddly. The party wake up to find Cloud dead, sliced open with his own sword.

Tifa devastated, simply sits next to Cloud in tears, she can’t speak.

Barret tries to comfort her, but doesn’t really know what to say, once he is closer though he points out that Clouds materia is gone however.

Nanaki, who had gone to get help two days earlier, returns alone to tell the group that Cosmo Canyon has been heavily damaged, Bugenhagen is too busy trying to help the wounded to offer them any assistance. He tells them that he saw Yuffie running away from camp on his way back, some six hours earlier.

Cid and Vincent had both been away from camp trying to establish radio contact with the Highwind. After some time, Vincent investigates the body. It is clear that Cloud had been asleep when the attack took place, and judging by the size and weight of Clouds sword, neither Yuffie, nor Nanaki could have been the murderer.

The party decides to search for Yuffie, they head in the direction Nanaki said she was headed, eventually finding her lying dead at the bottom of a cliff. She has clearly died from a fall.

Cid finally manages to make contact with the Highwind, and after arriving to pick up the party, they confirm that noone else has been near the area.

EDIT EDIT: Hehe, I forgot, if you hadn't worked it out, the point is to solve the murder :P .

I think you should make a new thread if ya wanna start a murder mystery (great idea) As for the riddle, I seriously thought it was Yuffie, but for now I`ll guess Barret maybe he stole Cloud`s materia to sell it so Marlene can go to skool, and Yuffie caught him in the act so he pushed her of a cliff? ;)

PhoenixAsh
03-20-2005, 08:00 PM
This is just a test, like I said, if people want to riddle whilst its being solved thats great. I'm not revealing the answer if people guess names, as there aren't enough to pick from, and the logic required to solve this conclusively is quite long I think, so if you post ideas I can offer hints along those lines. Oh and hypothesising about motives and character isn't really necessary, as the odd behaviour covers that, although some may be useful if you want.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-20-2005, 08:38 PM
Hmm, well, it can't be

Cloud, Nanaki, Cid, Vincent, Yuffie, Aeris.

So, that leaves Barret, Tifa, and Cait Sith. I can't narrow it down further.

PhoenixAsh
03-20-2005, 10:09 PM
This is slightly more complex than that, I'm not saying you're wrong, but to solve this you'll have to work out a few things that happen. Theres also possibly a bit of creativity needed.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-20-2005, 10:16 PM

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-21-2005, 12:50 PM
What about Cait Sith? Wasn't he with the party? Or did you leave him out on purpose, and he applies to that last line wherein Cid states that no one else was in the area?

I can't narrow it down past Barret and Tifa. From there, I have to like theorise. Maybe Barret tried to set up Yuffie. "Look, his materia is gone!" but that didn't work b/c we know it wasn't Yuffie. Also, some weaker evidence would be Tifa's behavior helps her, but I can't be sure.

PhoenixAsh

Okay, I'lm trying not to give away whats right and wrong here. You may have to be slightly more open minded in how you solve this riddle, it may be my fault as I included a phrase I shouldn't have. It doesn't make the riddle wrong, it just might be misleading. I'll give the hint that you should try and piece together what you know has happened, and that you should use a lot more of the information given.

I suppose Yuffie, Red, and Cid could have been in on some sort of conspiracy. Yuffie sliced the sleeping Cloud with the point of a Shuriken, then smeared blood on whatever sword Cloud happened to have beside him at the time. Since Red and Cid, however, figured Yuffie would make a break with the materia, Cid ordered the Highwind to launch a missle attack on Cosmo Canyon, to give Red an excuse to be "waiting" for the deviant and annoying young ninja. Red pushes Yuffie to her demise, then makes up the story about seeing her run past. Cid, having deceived Vincent about Highwind radio contact, appears to play no role. The motive? Cloud is the unfortunate victim in a scheme with the ultimate purpose of removing the blight that is (was) Yuffie from the world.

Well, that's probably wrong. I just don't see, however, where there's enough concrete info to establish any one scenario. I should read the riddle again.

PhoenixAsh
03-22-2005, 03:42 AM
Well at least you're thinking a bit more openly and including things :D . To be honest, even when solved fully there will still be doubt in this riddle, there is one point near the end that may be of worry, but noones really near that yet... well kinda.

Weimar has been quite logical, but has overlooked some possibilities, and also one problem, which will be my first real clue. Consider Yuffie's death seriously.

Luthien Rogue
03-22-2005, 04:47 AM
Um... first, Bugenhagen is dead. o.O So either you just forgot that when writing the riddle, or Red's a lying SOB and used his dead grandfather as a distraction.

I would say Yuffie took Cloud's materia. Red killed her (No one else was in the area, and Red and Yuffie saw each other. No weapon was used to kill her, so it was likely Nanaki, as he could easily push her off the cliff, and I doubt a ninja would have such poor balance :P).

Not sure who killed Cloud, yet. That's all I've got so far. XD

Weimar Pluto Knight VII
03-22-2005, 01:18 PM
The only prob with your theory, Luthien, is that the riddle clearly states that Yuffie couldn't have murdered Cloud. The weapon was Cloud's sword, but the riddle states that Yuffie didn't have the strength to use it.

I do think Yuffie had something to do with it, though, judging from the missing materia and her being pushed off a cliff.

I used to read a lot of Clue books, so I'm good at solving murder mysteries. However, I am solving this as if it was in a Clue book, so one thing I'm doing is assume everyone is telling the truth. Otherwise, this riddle is impossible. Is someone lying? I can only say someone is lying if it clearly contradicts something in the game, like Bugenhagen's death.

I can find no solid evidence for or against Tifa and Barret. There seems to be evidence against Cid and Vincent. You eliminate Yuffie and Red for us (at least in the intrinsic murder of Cloud). And Aeris, Cait Sith, and Cloud don't seem to be suspects.

Hmm, I guess someone killed him. Yuffie took advantage of the situation and stole his materia. Red must have been the one who knocked her off the cliff, of couse assuming he is lying just a little bit. Unfortunately, I'm down to two suspects: Tifa and Barret. It was probably Barret, although Tifa crying I don't think is very good evidence.

The logic is starting to get somewhere now. All I will say is to try and aim for the simplest explanation for what happened, as in the one that requires the least coincidences, and least speculation. I may be wrong, but in my mind there is only really one such instance.

Okay next hint then, think about the time that Red says that he saw Yuffie. Unfortunately you're approaching this riddle in an order unlike the way I would recommend, but that shouldn't cause too much problem.

Red saw her approximately 6 hours earlier, so at the point where Nanaki saw Yuffie, they would have been roughly 6 hours away from camp, so Yuffie had been gone for about 6 hours, at night. I SEE! :| Wait, no... I don't...

I don't understand why Vinny went with Cid... I doubt he knows much about that stuff. :P But since they were working with radios, maybe he was using them to communicate with Red? I don't know how long Cid and Vinny were gone for, but by him saying "it happened while he was asleep" it makes it seem like he's trying to cover his butt. :\

Ok, ok. Juding by Barret's reaction, he killed Cloud. Yuffie stole Cloud's materia, and Barret got all PMSy, as he usually does, but Yuffie got away. Vinny and/or Cid used the radio to contact Nanaki at Cosmo Canyon, after Barret told them that Yuffie ran off with Cloud's materia. Red, on his way back, finds Yuffie, and kills her by pushing her off a cliff. He used Bugenhangen as a distraction (:grr:). I say Barret killed Cloud. Red was possibly in on it. Ok, that was random.

Squall of SeeD
03-22-2005, 08:22 PM
Okay, how about Barret kills Cloud and Yuffie goes in to see him, only to find him cut open like a bag of wet groceries. She takes the opportunity to make off with the Materia. Out in the wilderness, Nanaki comes across Yuffie who tells him that Cloud is dead. Nanaki sees that she has the Materia and believes she did it and pushes her off the cliff. When he returns to camp, he doesn't mention killing Yuffie because they say the Buster Sword was used and that she couldn't have lifted it. The end.

PhoenixAsh

Again, too many coincidences. I'll give my solution to this in a few posts.

Luthien Rogue
03-22-2005, 09:50 PM
Too many coincidences? Then I'm assuming Red and Yuffie's encounter wasn't by chance?

You still haven't said that the part about Bugenhagen was just a mistake, so I'm assuming Red's been lying.

Nanaki and Barret were in on it. Barret kills Cloud while he's asleep, using his Buster Sword. He makes sure Yuffie finds him, knowing that she'll take the oppurtunity to steal his materia. Yuffie runs off with it. In the morning, Barret doesn't know what to say to Tifa, but was the one to notice and point out that Cloud's materia is missing, as a way of distracting the other party members. Red, while "going to get help," waited for Yuffie, and ended pushing her off the cliff. We know he did this because:

1. the party confirmed that no one else had been in the area.

2. 6 hours away, Red was the only one anywhere near Yuffie.

3. No weapon was used, and Nanaki could easily push her off a cliff.

We also know that Red was lying about Bugenhagen. It also doesn't make any sense that Red wouldn't try to stop Yuffie or see what was going on...
You never say whether they found the materia on Yuffie or not... Anyway, the plan was to make Yuffie to appear to be the killer.

Halenite

PhoenixAsh, correct me if I'm wrong, but given that you haven't stepped in on the matter, I'm guessing Red's statement about Bugenhagen does not affect the solution to the mystery.

PhoenixAsh
03-23-2005, 01:56 AM
No Bugenhagen is key actually. I was indeed using the idea that he died. As Luthien Rogue got pretty much the complete answer, here is my logic:

The people away from camp when the party wakes up are:
Nanaki, Yuffie, Cid, and Vincent.

Nanaki says that Yuffie was six hours from camp when he saw her, and as the party finds her body, we can assume that she is at least this distance away. Yuffie is a ninja and is unlikely simply to fall off a cliff, so whoever killed her would require at least twelve hours to kill her after leaving camp, too long for them to have stayed at camp and killed Cloud, then returned before everyone woke up. Therefore Yuffie was not killed by Barret or Tifa. We know Nanaki didn't kill Cloud though.

If Cid or Vincent killed Yuffie then the other would have had to have been in on it. We therefore know that at least two people were involved in the killings. If we assume that the minimum number of people were involved, then we can take it to have been any of the following pairs.

Cid and Vincent, Barret and Nanaki, Tifa and Nanaki.

We know that Nanaki lied because of Bugenhagen, this suggests that he was involved. We now need a reason for Yuffie to leave camp.

If we ignore the chance that Yuffie coincidantally stole Clouds materia
on the same night he was killed, then she must have left for some other
reason. This is most likely that she was being chased by her killer, or was chasing someone. We can infer from the situation and Nanaki's lie that it was him. As he didn't kill Cloud, he probably chased her. Why?

This is the final clue. Barret notices the missing materia almost immediately, despite Cloud's dead body, and a devastated Tifa. If Yuffie didn't steal the materia, then she must be being set up. This explains why she was killed and Nanaki said he saw her running away.

Therefore Barret and Nanaki are the killers. Barret killed Cloud, then one of the pair took the materia to frame Yuffie, and Nanaki waited near camp to chase her away and kill her.

Like I said there is room for error, it is arguable that more than two people could have been the killers, though this seems the simplest and most explanatory solution to me. This was just a test, so try not to shout at me if you feel I made a mistake :) . I would appreciate any constructive criticism though :D .

EDIT: Well done Luthien Rogue and everyone else, for doing as well as you did, and actually having a go at this :D.

Halenite, I was sending the PM then my pc crashed... Go here (http://members.fortunecity.com/sephkatana/ff7stuff/ff7opq.txt) and go to Edit -> Find -> "Strength of the Valley" It is in the sidequest that Bugenhagen dies.

"Nanaki, it's really bad. Ever since Bugenhagen returned from
that last trip, he doesn't seem well."
"Why don't you hurry and see Bugenhagen?"
Bugenhagen
"Ho Ho......"

(His arm falls to the floor. Red XIII leaps up and begins to frantically
nudge Bugenhagen's body. The scene fades to black.)

Yes, when Nanaki comes out, he tells Cloud that Bugenhagen went on another "adventure," but he was lying..

Cloud
"Red XIII... Is Bugenhagen...?"

(Red XIII half-stands.)

Red XIII
"......"
"Grandpa told me that he's going away again!"

Cloud
"Away...?"

(Red XIII sits again.)

Red XIII
"It seems like he really liked that Airship."
"He told me he couldn't stay and just zipped out of here!"
"He even gave me a gift, look!"

(He displays his comb, the Limited Moon.)

Red XIII
"Wait a minute. Aren't you supposed to give gifts AFTER you
come back?"
"Ha ha...... Grandpa sure is strange! Haa... ha ha...... ha......"

Um... someone can take my turn. Or is it my turn? :P I dunno...

Sorry for the delay. Alright, let's see how this works out.

I am the link between a golden world and a town that faded away.

I'll accept three different answers, since "link" can be interpreted in different ways. This shouldn't be too hard. Good luck!

Weimar Pluto Knight VII

Oh, the Ropeway Station.

Masamune·1600

Believe it or not, that's not one of the three answers, although I can see why you chose it. Reconsider the specifics of the "town that faded away."

The Cargo Ship that travels from Costa del Sol (the golden world) to Junon (the town that faded away).

Masamune·1600
03-25-2005, 09:30 PM
Very nice reasoning; I could easily have written the riddle with that in mind. But "golden world" and "town that faded away" don't refer to Costa del Sol or Junon. Keep trying!

By the way, I've liked the answers I've seen so far from everyone. Even if they weren't what I had in mind, it's good to see the riddle has stimulated some creative thinking.

TheSpoonyBard
03-25-2005, 09:55 PM
Could it be President Shinra? The 'golden world' could be his vision of Neo-Midgar and the 'town that faded away' could be Midgar as it stands now.

Masamune·1600
03-25-2005, 10:00 PM
You're starting to get a little too abstract. "Golden world" refers to what I believe to be its most apparent meaning.

Good luck!

Luthien Rogue
03-25-2005, 10:03 PM
Ok, time to start narrowing this down. Three guesses so far, here comes number four, so we've narrowed it down from 1,000,000,000 to 9,999,996!

Golden World = Promised Land = Lifestream
Town that faded away = Mideel

No? Ok, let's try one of the other 9,999,995 possible answers.

Squall of SeeD
03-25-2005, 10:06 PM
The link between whatever the Golden Land might be and whatever the Town That Faded is -- in one form or another, due to them being the link between everything else in the game -- Shin-Ra. It doesn't matter what the Golden Land or the Town That Faded away is, PROVE ME WRONG. ::whistles::

So we're at 9,999,994 possible answers now. Who's next?

Luthien Rogue
03-25-2005, 10:20 PM
Me, me!

Answer: You get a new character in both places, that is the link between the two.

Golden World = Gold Saucer = new character - Cait Sith
Town that faded away = Nibelheim (fire) = new character - Vincent

Well, well, well, Riddle, look at you now. You are no match for me!

Masamune·1600
03-25-2005, 10:24 PM
Actually, Shinra can't be used as a direct link here, although Shinra was certainly 'involved' in one half of the riddle.

The Lifestream and Mideel are not what the riddle refers to.

Wow, I never intended for the riddle to be this difficult. I guess the language is ambiguous, but that's what I'm hoping you will all eventually interpret. For the record, the initial guess by Weimar Pluto Knight VII seems closest to one of the three answers.

EDIT: Luthien, you posted while I was making a response of my own. You correctly interpreted "golden world" (yes, it is the Gold Saucer; it was meant to be relatively apparent). However, the "town that faded away" is not Nibelheim. Keep trying!

TheSpoonyBard
03-25-2005, 10:31 PM
So the Ropeway Station is the closest guess, and it's something to do with the Gold Saucer...so it's got to be the carriage that takes you from Corel to the Gold Saucer.

Squall of SeeD
03-25-2005, 10:32 PM
Dyne? He's found again at the Gold Saucer after Barret believed him to have perished while Corel was being destroyed.

Chocobo Carriage.

Edit: Masamune, you just had to edit that post, didn't you? :P

Masamune·1600
03-25-2005, 10:51 PM
My bad, Luthien. The original edit, for those who didn't see it in its 30 seconds of existence, asked for a definition for carriage. However, I realized that for carriage to be an answer, the definition would be abstract to the point of insensibility.

The chocobo carriage answer, like the answer of Dyne, is very close. Just look a little further...

Squall of SeeD

Sand. Lots and lots of sand.

Kidding. My guess is that they're in the same spot. The Gold Saucer was built where Corel once was.

TheSpoonyBard
03-25-2005, 11:08 PM
Esther, the chocobo manager, is the 'link' that gets you from the Desert Prison, formerly Corel, to the Gold Saucer.

Masamune·1600
03-25-2005, 11:19 PM
Ester....is correct! Mr. Coates and any number of answers relating to winning a chocobo race would also have been accepted. The town that faded (as Squall pointed out) was Corel, not North Corel, for anyone who was wondering.

3. Cid using his Highwind Limit Break?
4. Cait Sith using his Dice or Slots Limit Break?
5. Any of Vincent's Limit Breaks, because technically it's his attack but he isn't "Vincent" anymore?
6. Any character in the game attacking with a Summon or Magic?
7. Rufus using Dark Nation to attack?
8. Jenova killing Aeris, because she used Sephiroth to do it for her?
9. Jenova, in Bizzaro Sephiroth form, controlling the Sephiroth below her to attack?
10. Rufus attacking Sapphire WEAPON, because HE didn't attack, he had his soldiers attack it?

I hope you get my point... D:

Okay I don't want this thread to die, but I'm tired so this is just quick.

First there were four, and in many directions,
Second were four more, but only one way or the other.
Third they couldn't be found.
Fourth there was something else, that made others half.

What are they, and who came fifth?

EDIT: There's a chance that this might be VERY hard, I'm not sure, I'll see how answers go, it might be got in one :D .

-N-
03-31-2005, 01:01 AM
And some quick thoughts in response...

The third line is throwing me off.

I feel the answer has something to do with materia or weapons.

Actually, yeah, maybe Yuffie's weapons - I feel the fourth line has to do with Double AP or something like that. >_< That third line is really a thorn, though.

I need to play this game more often - it's been over two years now.

Weimar Pluto Knight VII

I have no idea. But my gut is telling me this is one of those element riddles, a lot like the "what did the blood do" riddle.

PhoenixAsh
03-31-2005, 12:34 PM
The trouble you might have with this riddle is the detail, and the need to think very differently to normal. There isn't really a 'catch' as such, except perhaps that part of the answer is a bit unusual. My advice would be not to go line by line, and pay very close attention to the wording.

Perducci
03-31-2005, 08:19 PM
Hmm, i'm not too sure on this one...
I'm kinda thinking Knights of The Round or something like that? I dunno...

Llanowar
04-01-2005, 01:45 AM
Well it obviously refers to a group of people due to the question WHO came fifth. Therefore I dont think it could be materia although that was my first thought after reading it. I also think that both lines refer to the same group at different points in time since the quest is about the fifth.

My guess is the Jenova clones since at first they were spread out all over, but later they grouped together in one place or another.

Counter-Deathblow
04-01-2005, 07:10 AM
what about the turks... and the last time you fight them Elena is with them (the 5th)? i dunno...

PhoenixAsh
04-01-2005, 10:47 AM
Good thinking, but my wording isn't quite that straightforward. The who in question is not related in such a way to the 'they'. The 'they' is in fact quite an odd answer.

I don't want to say much on this, and this isn't necessarily the best approach, but I think the fourth line may be one of the easier to start guessing about.

You have to read carefully to work out the structure to this one.

Counter-Deathblow
04-01-2005, 10:13 PM
the only thing that I can think of that goes with the fourth line is the Zeidrich armor that you steal from Rude in the Shinra plane and in Midgar... because it halfs all elemental attacks... however you don't 'find' it so to speak anywhere you have to steal it and that doesnt go with the rest of the riddle at all... so I'm completely stumped... but I'll keep tryin... my only other guess would also be the dudes in black robes like Llanowar suggested only for this reason...

1st line: They are spread out everywhere when you first encounter them
2nd line: If I'm not mistaken at one point in the game (north crater maybe?) they are all walking in a solid line
3rd line: After that point in the game (north crater when you fight Jenova-DEATH) you don't see them anymore, at least I don't think so...
4th line: dunno...

but since the guys in black robes is appariently wrong then the Zeidrich with the fourth line is all I have... good riddle tho

PhoenixAsh
04-01-2005, 10:42 PM
Heh, thanks, we'll see what you think of it when the answer is revealed :D .

Oh dear, I checked and there is a mistake in this riddle, line one should actually only read two instead of many directions. I can't really explain this without giving away too much, so I'll just apologise. I don't THINK anyone has really got far enough for it to be an issue. It does kinda still fit if you understand the second line in comparison so I'll leave it. The solution I expect will occur to you BEFORE you realise that I made a semi-mistake, so don't worry too much.

I guess its hint time, here is a riddle to help solve one of the lines:

First there were 123, then there were 12

Perducci

 Maybe it's those guys you fight in Don Corneo's mansion...

PhoenixAsh

Well given the lack of enthusiasm I'll just give the answer... I hope this thread isn't gonna die though :( .

First there were four, and in many directions, (Original clues on paper -steps)
Second were four more, but only one way or the other. (Safe combinations)
Third they couldn't be found. (Lost Number)

So the 'They' is actually talking about numbers. The second riddle:
First there were 123, then there were 12, referred to Lost Number.

Fourth there was something else, that made others half. (This talks about Odin)

What are they, and who came fifth?

The 'who' then is Vincent.

I kept the numbers theme going throughout the riddle as it seemed to fit, and to make it a bit harder perhaps. Guess it was too hard :P .
