God, I love J-Pop. I find myself listening to J-Pop more than english music, regardless of whether or not I understand the lyrics. When I do know what they're saying, I compare the lyrics to the lyrics from english songs and I find that the japanese lyrics have deeper meanings. So, anyway, where are all the fans of J-Pop? Who's your favorite idol and what's your favorite song?

Favorite idol: It's a tie between BoA and Do As Infinity.
Favorite song: The Meaning of Peace and Love by Koda Kumi and BoA. Heh, I was searching for this song for 3 weeks, now, and I just found it. The moment the song started, a tear trickled down my cheek.

Though I'm more into J-rock and J-punk, I do love a lot of J-pop. It's hard to choose, but I'm big on Shiina Ringo. BoA is great, she's more K-pop though, and I really cant decide my favorite songs.

Yeah, BoA does C-Pop, K-Pop, and J-Pop. She also has some english songs. Have you ever heard of Dir en Grey?

She's Korean though, the majority of it is Korean. All her songs are beautiful.

Yep, I like Dir en Grey, Gackt, L'Arc~en~Ciel and all those other rock bands.

BoA doesn't *really* do C-Pop. She has I think... three Chinese tracks from her Don't Start Now (Jumping into the World) which was supposed to showcase her world marketability. That's why that album had her singing in three languages. She really does know Korean, Japanese, and some English, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't know Chinese.

Also, it's interesting how her first few English songs made sense, then all of a sudden starting with Listen to My Heart, they made absolutely no sense at all. Heh. But the one in her Atlantis Princess album (I think it's called like lights of Seul or something) actually sounds really good. You can tell her English is really improving.

Anyway, a little off topic. But yea, the only J-pop I really listen(ed) to is BoA. But I stopped getting her CDs since I think... Valenti. I would like to catch up someday though.

Yeah, Japanese music is great. I've not listened to much of it though...Maybe I should do that? Can you guys recommend some good artists?

Depends on what style ya like.

Poppy stuff - Ayumi Hamasaki or BoA
Rock - The Pillows or L'Arc en Ciel
Punk - Melt Banana or Brahman

I never liked J-Pop. For some reason no matter how good people claim the songs are, I never get interested in them. And it's not because I don't understand the language, it's because I'm not really a fan of high-pitched voices in techno-music. Though the only "J-Pop" I like are probably ones without voices. Sorta like half-techno, half-blues. Hard to explain, but I like techno that sounds kind of sad, not sure if you can call that J-Pop, even though some originates in Japan.

I love BoA. But I'm still a big fan of HK-pop. Sammi Cheng, Edison Chen, Nicholas Tse and Faye Wong when she was cool. I also like the other C-pop, mainly Jay Chou, Jolin Tsai and S.H.E

Most J-pop/rock is easy to find on the popular peer to peers (kaaza and winmx), but if you're looking for punk, your best bet is soul seek.

I've been hooked on J-pop since the very first theme song I heard in an anime. I cant for the life of me remember which one, though I do remember rewinding the tape of SM episodes to listen to Moonlight Densetsu 50 thousand times.

Another good band is Do As Infinity. If you watch Inu-Yasha, they sing the second and fourth ending songs, I believe.

By the way, since BoA is an acronym for Beat of the Angel, do you call her B-O-A or Boa(bo-wa)? I'm wondering because my friend from my current high school, who has been a fan of BoA since BoA's early singing career, says it's bo-wa.

BoA is not an acronym for Beat of Angel. It's her name. Her full (I think) name is Kwon Boa.

Pfft, shows how much I know about BoA.

Recommendations? Hmm...right now I'm listening to a lot of stuff that isn't really pop, but it's not really rock, either. I think Olivia Lufkin and Porno Graffitti (both of which I highly recommend) are more like crazy Japanese theme parties on crack. The former has everything from pop tracks to ethereal soft-rock to "let's scream a lot" music. The latter has everything from salsa-beat Jpop to stuff that would fit in at a disco to stuff that sounds like it's straight out of the 1960s American pop scene to stuff that is fairly rock-ish. Go figure; they're all bizarre. Whatever Haruichi is smoking when he writes his songs, I want some -_-;;

If you're looking for quality vocals, Kokia sings amazingly, as does Sakamoto Maaya. If you like girl-bands, I like Do As Infinity, Day After Tomorrow, and Every Little Thing. BoA and Hamasaki Ayumi aren't bad...but I really have to be in the right mood to listen to them. I'm not a huge fan of jrock, as most of the male vocalists tend to sound like they're swallowing an angry cat while singing, but L'arc en Ciel is okay sometimes.

Yeah, I could make a lot more recommendations, but I'd have to know more what you like to listen to. *^_^* And Soulseek is a really good place to get Asian music - there are chat rooms for just about every genre, as well, so you can get really specific recommendations from people who particularly like Asian punk, for example, vs. people who just stick with pop. ^_^

I think I am the ONLY person on earth that thinks Dir rn Grey is over rated. I'm mean sure they're good but they aren't the BEST.

I think I'm the only one at EoFF that absolutely abhors Boa.
